After going through a pretty extensive fitting process, they put me in the Mizuno irons. As a 8.0 handicap, I tried both the ZX5 and ZX7, but the numbers just weren't as good. Plus, I thought the Mizuno looked and felt better. But that stuff is all subjective. Conversely, one of my good friends just went with a ZX7/ZX5 combo set and really likes them. Really think it comes down to a player's swing characteristics. There is no one best iron for everyone.

I have recently bought the the Srixon ZX Forged. My first set of blades. I am astounded at there forgiveness. And no, I am not a scratch golfer. 13 handicap. 66 years old. Swing speed of about 95mph with driver. The V sole won me over with its awesome turf interaction. Had them for about 2 months and am still shocked how well they handle off centre strikes. One thing that is often overlooked is the forgiveness built into the ZX7 sole. I think Inside, off of a mat doesn't show it as well as on course testing. The heavy/fat shot with the ZX7 is going to fly closer to stock yardage than most other irons. I would love to see a 6-10 handicap test on course with these. I'd love to see a 11-18 handicap test between ZX5 and 225 on course too.

    • @Somewheredownintexas

I bought the zx7 and played for about a half season. Different take but I think the sole is a touch overrated and the feel was always clicky on course. They also were a little less consistent on flight which played out in this video. If you are thinking Srixon has some sort of secret sauce on the Mizuno who is the undisputed #1 you’re headed down the wrong path. Can’t be argued though the zx7 is a nice participant at a great price. Will share I’m playing 18 sc’s with pro 225 4 iron. The 225 is like a refined p790, it impressed me with incredible forgiveness on mishits and high consistency in quality strikes (no crazy p790 knuckleball fliers).

The only 'comparison' is with your own swing, including 'feel'. Get the feedback not the sales pitch from a 'fitting'; better still from a round / practice range session with a whole demo set. Few of us amateurs with a handicap swing it perfect all the time and these online comparisons will be swayed by a bad swing, or worse (result is removed) when it's the result off a less than perfect swing that is more to the point of the comparison.

Not a big fan of the pebbly look on the Srixon iron back…looks like an unfinished iron to me…unlike a Mizuno 221 and 225 (the 223 should be in the 921 category) that looks like someone took time to carve each head out of a block of iron by hand….just me…

They say the technology and the Forgiveness of the 223 is the same of the of the 921 forged Just in a smaller package.

@@andrewgalvin1318 Would have been nice if they made the packaging mirror the 221 and 225…not sure why Mizuno keeps doing that with that middle MP iron…it’s been like that forever. Too bad because most people doing a blended set are either doing the 221/223 or 223/225…no one really does the 221/225 so that the clubs at least look similar…

I like the older Srixons and I couldn't get over how ugly these new irons look. I went with the 223s and love the feel of these over my MP25s...

At the end of the day srixon is just not “sexy”. Golf has an element of glamour/prestige (can’t quite find the right word) that goes with equipment choice (whether that is logical or not). It makes no sense for most people to want blades, but we all aspire to it. The mizunos (223 and 225) look most like blades. Hence the appeal. To paraphrase Jeremy Clarkson, you don’t pick a wife because she is only practical. Golf is the same. IMHO
Oh, and I ended up ordering custom fit Mizuno 225s.

Just watched the video. Almost identical performance, but one is significantly cheaper. Hmmmmmm.

“Colicky” is the gayest golf term there’s is if you’re worried about the sound that much you’re probably not that good only thing that matters is how the ball flies guaranteed if you’re hitting greens you won’t care how a club sounds

Love My Srixon irons. Next set will be the third set I have owned. I had a set of Mizuno 850 fitted by the Mizuno rep. The worst set of irons I have ever owned. Lasted 3 months and traded them in for $300. Cost $1400 AUD. 🇦🇺🏌️‍♂️
