Just got a blended set of this range. I'm a 13 handicap player. Got ZX4 4 iron, ZX5 5&6 iron, ZX7 7 to PW all with NS 120 shafts. Topped off with new Cleveland zipcore wedges, 52,56,60 mid bounce, ZX5 driver and 5 fairway woods with HZRDUS yellow shafts. Tried all the rest, including Mizuno and the numbers, feel, were exceptional and all came in at a much much lower price. Just waiting for my order to come in now. Then it's out with the Mavrik Pros and in with my brand spanking new Srixons.
ZX5 is a great set of irons. I´ve had them for 2 weeks now, indoors in Trackman. I´m 68 with a 7 hdc and need just a little bit of help as I´m getting slower in my swing speed. Love them and looking forward to spring. May just be the best irons I have had ever!!
Was one of 12 clubfitters that was able to buy HEADS ONLY just prior to Srixon acquiring Cleveland Golf back in the say. They were and are still a major player in technology and club innovation. Great review !!!
I had my mind made up on getting a set of the ZX5's but then came across a deal on Mizuno JPX 919's that I couldn't pass up. Srixon is putting out great product.
I just got fitted for these! I went into the fitting believing I would get the titleist t200 since I had tried them and a few other ones before but the zx5s were just so reliable and concistent. I thought they felt great but not as soft as some other forged ones. Now I just gotta wait like 8 weeks for them to arrive zzzz
I have these bent 2° weak which rly brought them into their sweet spot. Good spin while maintaining launch, speed, and descent angle. Helps with the zx7 blend too
I got a combo set of ZX7 and ZX5s, but unfortunately had to send back the ZX5s in the 4-5-6 irons. Just want to give heads up to prospective buyers the ZX5s are a multi-piece construction and basically just has an insert jammed into the back of the clubhead, on my clubs these were loose and moveable straight out of the box and you could even hear the epoxy/glue/tape clicking around when you pushed on the inserts. I was not at all a fan of this as it didn't feel as nice on impact and allowed dirt/grass to get in the gaps. Thankfully Srixon was helpful and is sending ZX7s in those irons to replace the 5s.
Interesting test lee don’t forget things change when your out on the course that’s why I like the idea of when you have a fitting you do need to try them on the course too and also with the balloons you usually play with good review though mate
Got my zx5 before Christmas work then snow and ice now lockdown haven't been on course only used on mats when I bought them they look, feel and perform fantastic
Get them in the bag Lee, you hit them fantastic. One thing I don't understand is when club testers say clubs go to far? Surely if 190 from a green it's better to have 7 iron rather than 5 iron. I noticed your decent angles were nice and steep, that would help ball stop
The problem is it leaves gaps at the bottom end so will need about 6 wedges. Also 4500 spin is 2/3 what it should be for a 7 iron. The reality is it’s just a number and golfer should play lofts not numbers
Lee, thank you for the excellent review. I would interested to see you hit a few with your current 7 iron and compare the results. I work at a large golf store in the US, and the new Srixon irons are very highly regarded amongst the employees.
You should do a head to head with your gamer 5 iron. You are expecting spin you get on a 170 yard shot. What spin do you get with you gamer 190 yard shot. You said it is going like your 5. So compare it to your 5. Forget the number on the bottom. It only tells you how long the shaft is. Which is why this club will kill your 5 iron. You will be hitting 190 yards with a iron that has the shaft of 7 iron. That is 1" shorter. You can also bend the loft weaker. The outer shell is forged and the lofts can be easily raise to get more spin. It will also take out some of the offset. Oh, it it will fly pretty close to 190 yards. Maybe 185 with more spin. Plenty enough to get good bite especially with the higher flight and steeper decent angle with the weaker loft. Go 2 degrees weaker. You will love it.
I did as well Mark. Couldn’t believe the gain in distance from the irons I was hitting (MP-30’s). Understanding that the ZX-5’s are 2-3 degrees stronger than what I was playing, the gain was exponential. What shafts did you get in your ZX-5’s? I was fit into the Nippon Modus 3 105 gram shafts, and they feel amazing! Happy golfing my friend.
Good review Lee thanks. Srixon do make good gear and are underrated, but guess many don’t try them given the limited number of stockists around the country compared to the other main players in the market. Gonna give them a try when we are allowed. Keep up the good work mate.
Just to let you know Lee I've played 5 rounds with the z585 irons, hb turbo driver and 3 wood and honestly they are unbelievable buddy. Irons are pure and the hb turbos are top notch and as good if not better than any top end driver i purchased over the years. Just pre ordered the new cleveland premier 11s putter to finish my bag off. Deciding on wheter to put a turbo 5 wood or halo hybrid in now to complete the setup 👌🏌️♂️
Wow mate that’s the best I’ve seen you hit a 7 iron mate the sound was pure why don’t you just tweak the loft by 1 degree You should really consider getting them mate really was impressive with your striking
Good to see Srixon getting some love, they make some stunning looking and great performing Irons👍 Words I've never said after hitting any club, ever "these are just going too far" lol
If I wasn't a Mizuno man these would definitely be in my try list. Great reviews in general. Be interested in seeing how you get on with the ZX7, dispersion looked good on the 5s, front to back apart from the miss hit is really good. That's something to really take note. No hot spots.
As you were testing this club you loved the consistency and the feel but you were wanting for more spin and less distance. My simple little mind got to thinking. (That's always dangerous.) Would hitting the 8i achieve your desired spin and length of you present gamer 7i? I realize this would create more of a gap from the PW to the SW but that could possibly be filled.
@@LWG Yes Lee sometimes solving a problem at one end of the irons causes a different problem at the other end. Like I stated in my first response it's always dangerous when I get thinking. Your idea of weakening the lofts would definitely be worth a try.
I play the z585 irons with modus 120 stiff shaft. I'm not sure it would benefit upgrading to these but might think about the zx7s now my ball striking is better.
Good review Lee, thanks. Looking to change, maybe this year, just watched the G425 review with Dan, and these Srixon irons seem to compare well performance wise
@@LWG I would think the G425's won't have the same feel as the Srixon, not saying that's better or worse, it's a personal thing. What about the ZX4's, maybe not for you, but I'd be interested in your view
Good review mate, really enjoyed it. they are on my list of clubs to try. I was confused how you kept on saying they were strong lofted and too strong for you but they’re only 1 degree stronger than your own clubs.
@@LWG good point mate. Good review anyway. I’ve not had a chance to see them in flesh but is there much difference size wise between them and zx7 as in toe to heel?
Not a fan of low loft clubs to make players feel like they are hitting better. For better players the gapping created voids in the yardages. This is why tour players have more standard lofts from decades ago. Being off only 3 yards means you may have missed a green or much longer put. The more lofted clubs deviation is way less. But we all know it’s about producing a product that makes people feel good. Srixon is a great product. As good as Mizuno or any of the American labels. Anything made in Japan is high quality.
Hello spent the day getting my son fitted today at 2nd Swing in Minnetonka Minnesota with Scott Johnson. After a couple hours we left with the Srixon Zx5 iron 5-gap wedge project LZ 6.0 shafts. Excited to see how my son improves with more time hitting these clubs. What do you recommend to fill his bag for the 4 or 3 or hybrid … we didn’t get to that today ? He has a 3 wood and a Driver
I used to have the z565s a while back and thought a lot of srixon. Sadly had the wrong graphite shaft for me - a fitting mistake- and switched out since to other clubs. Currently gaming the apex cf19s. Did try out on the course the zx7s being left handed too but preferred the jpx 921 sel in comparison. Mizuno don’t do lefties in the forged sadly. Also mizuno feel overrated these days compared to others like pxg for example whose feel was even better (prices too of course). Being in my late 60s tough to find less offset, smaller top line, sleeker looks etc in a great reasonable distance but accurate distances club. Will be trying the apex pro cf21 shortly for the 7-gw range as a combo. But this reminds me that I did like the Srixon feel when I had them. Hopefully improved since then including less offset. Will check them out in case. After I complete the apex pro test.
I’m currently in Apex Pro 19 and I’m looking forward to the new 21 version arriving. However the ZX7 and 5 combo is going to take some beating so far in my testing
@@LWG that’s good to know. Having gamed the p760s just before the apex - on;y changed because being in my late 6-s lost too much distance for the traditional lofts. Loved the feel of that club and the p7mc was almost the same. I too will be testing in a weeks time the apex pro as the looks and less offset appeals to me and the lofts somewhere in between traditional and too strong. Will be testing with three different graphite shafts. Having made the mistake on shafts with my z565 many moons ago the choice of shaft for one’s swing and the specific head is so important. Hopefully the choices for Srixon live up to giving one some different choices. Look forward to your findings too. But good to know that you rate the Srixons highly. I see Brooks Koepka just switched to the zx7s from how mizuno jpx. Not that any of us hit like Brooks Koepka!!

I don’t like a lot of offset do you find these have enough that it catches the eye and is off putting? For reference I have Mizuno JPX 921 HMP and they have very little offset . Thoughts please .
Did you find the amount of offset off putting or is it minimal? I have Mizuno jpx 921 HMP and they have almost none which I prefer , do you think the ZX5’s would not appeal to my eye? Cheers
You could possibly go with a higher spinning golf ball to offset the low spin as well. I just got a set of these and they are definitely fast. Usually i hit 6 iron about 205, these were carrying 215 even being bent 2 degrees weak. Just crazy but I'm liking them alot. Just ditched the 4 iron and added gap wedge and they've been great so far.
These just arrived today after I was fitted for them 5 weeks ago. Unfortunately, there's still snow on the ground, so I can't test them out. Are the zx5's what Koepka uses?
Lee, an excellent review I am really lucky and have 2 sets of irons !!!! The Srixon ZX5 with nippon 105 reg shafts and the Mizuno 921 forged with project x 5.5 shafts I have not been able to test these yet due to lockdown but was fitted for the Mizuno in October What would you recommend for me as a 58 year old 10 handicap with a swing speed of 78mph in 7 iron. I would love to put them head to head Thanks in advance
What type of flight were you getting off simulator? I was fit into these, and they seem to fly high and fall out of the sky. Was wondering if it's a shaft issue.
I think you're a little too stuck on the spin numbers being too late. Two ways to stop a call (and it goes for all shots, short and long), 1.) With spin and 2.) With trajectory. Your descent angles are more than enough to get all the stopping power you could ever need and want. Don't let the misconception that an iron should spin close to it's stated number (6-6000, 7-7000, etc) get in your head. That only applies for pros who only play in fast/firm greens. "These irons are going a little too far" - said no one, EVER!
If the 7 iron is carrying 15 to 20 yards further than you like why not play an 8 iron. After all the number on the bottom of the club is irrelevant - just think in your mind it’s a 6 iron
I tested the Wilson Staff CB's last week and really liked them, just not quite enough to buy them. So today I tried the TaylorMade, King Cobra & Ping equivalents of the CB irons before I got to these Srixon ZX5's. I really tried (honestly) to compare and contrast, but I kept getting drawn back these ZX5's like a moth to a flame... I don't have speed, but they just felt like you would have to do something really stupid to hit a bad shot with one! As you said, the numbers are really stable, which gives any golfer confidence! You get a lovely effortless ball strike and they feel/sound/look quiet, discreet and understated. Perfect, I just emptied the wallet and bought a fitted set from 5 to PW. Can't wait to get them in the bag and out on the course! :-) I was also getting fairly low spin numbers out of a 7 iron, but what I was looking for was "feel" irons that would also give me the help I need to do what I want them to 9.5 times out of 10. I think I just found them! ;-) Would I be wrong in saying they sweet mid priced irons for
Hey Lee..not sure why you’re concerned about the length as pros hit it that far. You ain’t no pro but I just don’t understand why you couldn’t just club down.
I wish mine would hurry up and come in. They have been on order for a while. Now that Koepka won the first tournament with them they will probably sell faster
Stop saying game improvement irons…..reduces sales…..and you want people to take you seriously when you drop your bag……the zx5 has the same thickness as the ping i210……
This 'spin' mantra in reality is nonsense. Our greens are well watered and looked after. None of us have any problems stopping a ball. We use low spin balls like Srixon soft feel or Wilson duo... Never an issue in the uk. Maybe in areas of hear and poor irrigation.

Almost definitely. However a lot depends on your delivery and speed. I’d get fitted as a combo set of ZX5 and zx4 May work better
Ok. Will be giving them a go when we’re allowed back out.
It's not the loft, shld be groove design?
These just arrived today after I was fitted for them 5 weeks ago. Unfortunately, there's still snow on the ground, so I can't test them out. Are the zx5's what Koepka uses?
i believe he plays zx7's . ooops i just saw how old this question was.
Great review Lee! I've seen you play, you need strong loft 😂😂😂😂
are these cavity backs
Nice review buddy
Lee, an excellent review
I am really lucky and have 2 sets of irons !!!!
The Srixon ZX5 with nippon 105 reg shafts and the Mizuno 921 forged with project x 5.5 shafts
I have not been able to test these yet due to lockdown but was fitted for the Mizuno in October
What would you recommend for me as a 58 year old 10 handicap with a swing speed of 78mph in 7 iron. I would love to put them head to head
Thanks in advance
How does the zx5 fare with the modus 105?
Zx4 next Lee! 😎
Lee I game the Hb launchers iron 4/pw do I need the d wedge to fill the gap to my 50 deg wedge ty
Difficult to say without knowing the distances of the PW and 50. Also can you 3/4 shot the PW consistently to negate the need to fill the gap?
Lee Whittaker Golf sorry I meant to put 52deg wedge ,normally hit pw 125/120 52 deg 95/90
@@billbobeaney5126 then yes mate there is a big gap there that you should look at filling
What type of flight were you getting off simulator? I was fit into these, and they seem to fly high and fall out of the sky. Was wondering if it's a shaft issue.
Sounds like a dynamic loft issue. Could be shaft but probably more technique based or a mix of both.
@@LWG Thanks, I wasn't sure if you saw this pattern as well. I have contacted my fitter about a potential shaft change.

Who makes 34-36 degree 7 irons these days? Unless you go to a pure blade of course but that’s a completely different marketplace to the ZX5.
Orka 🤷♂️
I was also getting fairly low spin numbers out of a 7 iron, but what I was looking for was "feel" irons that would also give me the help I need to do what I want them to 9.5 times out of 10. I think I just found them! ;-)
Would I be wrong in saying they sweet mid priced irons for
Lee you like this v sole they talk about?
I’ve not used it on grass so can’t comment on it really. I can see the benefit though.
I just got fitted, zx5 came out on top with the modus 120 stiff shaft . Can't wait to
Start playing them. Coming from ping k15s
Hey Lee..not sure why you’re concerned about the length as pros hit it that far. You ain’t no pro but I just don’t understand why you couldn’t just club down.
I don't know how many more times you can say that you need a higher loft
You can make the lofts weaker
Try and hit some knock down shots mate.. being able to hit different shot might be good on a review 👍🏼
If it's flying too far, just club down bro.
Love them but got the 585’s itb... 🤔 So don’t need them.... 🙄
I wish mine would hurry up and come in. They have been on order for a while. Now that Koepka won the first tournament with them they will probably sell faster
Mine took nearly eight weeks to arrive, I ordered a zx u later on and that's taking ages as well already 6 weeks and I still dont have it
@@maaduece5132 Srixon tells me 6 weeks stateside from order. I odered mine early but they weren't released for distribution until Jan 21. We'll see
Just loft these down 2 degrees and they'll be money
Great content but far too many adverts. 👎
Or project x lz 🤷♂️
Don’t have the shaft in the fitting kit.
1 degree, 1 degree of difference between these and yours. 🤷🏼♂️
Yeah
Stop saying game improvement irons…..reduces sales…..and you want people to take you seriously when you drop your bag……the zx5 has the same thickness as the ping i210……
Mike Newton said " they didn't feel forged , he said they felt clicky "
That’s his opinion mate.
@@LWG He normally likes Srixon.
Bet he said possibly, or sort of...
I saw that review. You could tell that he was hell bent on sticking with the “ little bit of clicky there yup” lol.
This 'spin' mantra in reality is nonsense. Our greens are well watered and looked after. None of us have any problems stopping a ball. We use low spin balls like Srixon soft feel or Wilson duo... Never an issue in the uk. Maybe in areas of hear and poor irrigation.
31 deg 7 iron, that's a 6 iron!
a good review ruined by adds.. get a grip
