Good morning Sam. Nice to see you having fun and accomplishing a project at the same time. The excavator is such an awesome machine. The view looks great with the cattails gone. Keep up the outstanding work!
Great job and good fun Sam! Over here in the UK we have a special parks called "Diggerland" where grown men and there children can roam free and play on diggers, skid steers and excavators..... and it's legal. The child never leaves us, the toys just get bigger 😂 keep on doin' stuff 🇬🇧
@Van-Diesel73 Thank you! I have heard of places like that. I should have e been "playing" with heavy equipment way earlier in life. Better late than never 🤠👍
The beauty of widening out your creek is that your water will be able to swell and stay in the boundaries of the ditch when you have lots of rain. The flooding should be minimal as it can flow higher without going over the bank.
@@bradleykuechle7586 You're absolutely right. The whole goal is to manage the big rains so it doesn't flood into the farmer's fields again. The creek helps a ton, but a pond will be full proof. If not, I'll need to build an ark! 🤠👍
You're gaining on it! I think I would have picked a really calm day and dropped a match on the cat tails! They way that your ditch is now is why I bought a sub compact tractor. The frontage of my property was about like that with a hard edge and it was always like stunt mowing. I bought a 5' tiller with the tractor and was able to straddle that edge and loosen up the dirt 3 or 4 inches deep and 5' wide at a time and then push the dirt in the ditch and track it in. That project and tilling up all the high spots and transferring it to low spots on the property I really feel like the tractor paid for itself that spring. In addition, I bought forks and a ballast box. I never pick up anything I don't have to. The tractor has less than a hundred hours on it and did all that work! That really has made a huge difference on your property! A day with the box blade, maybe tilling and some grass seed and it will be a postcard!
@@johnpyle8027 Thank you! I was definitely thinking I could mow right through the creek when it's smoothed out enough. We got a bunch of rain this weekend, but when it dries out enough, I'm going to try tilling it and finish grading with the box blade. It's going to look great when it's grown in with grass 🤠👍
Sir I really like your videos I love to watch you beautify you land you take lots of pride in what God has pervade you God be with you and enjoy you farm
@alvalonline 😂 Yes! And a big 'ol sandbox! I also had a toy called an "Armatron". Look it up. It had controls like an excavator and a big claw to pick stuff up. I should have been a heavy machine operator. Never too late to learn 🤠👍
Beautiful job Sam. Have you thought about lining the creek bed with some sort of rip rap or rocks? It may look nice along with controlling erosion when those rare large rainfalls accur. Just a thought.
@user-scooter1965 Thank you! I'm researching rip rap and its uses and effects right now. My end game goal is to use the land bridge culvert to filter out large debris like sticks and, unfortunately, trash. Then, line the next section of creek with rip rap and create a silt trap before the pond. 🤠👍
@davidnelson677 As a TH-cam creator, it's a bit of a challenge to do what I have to do, do what I WANT to do, and finally, present it in a way subscribers will want to watch and also enjoy. It ain't easy, lol
@rayhitchman4741 Thank you! Oh, you're absolutely right. Those cat tails will try to grow back, but now the area is dry and solid enough to mow and I won't let them 🤠👍
Another good video. I have a question for you off topic of todays video. I'm thinking about getting the titan attachments economy stump bucket. Do you still have yours? How is it holding up over time?
@chrisleskovac5887 Thank you! I do still have the stump bucket. It has held up well over the years. It's pretty handy for more than just stumps. It does seem a little bit long for the BX, but it works. A bit of advice, when digging out a stump, you're really digging out the roots. Start wide and go for small roots. Use the forward and backward motion of the tractor to get under the roots and cut them with the teeth on the bucket. Also, leave the stump high so you can push on it and pry the stump out. Go slow and remember, it's WAY better than a shovel 🤠👍
This makes laugh my neighbor does that embarking every couple of years with his farm tractor with the front end loader and every time he does he gets stuck the good part is he has a couple of tractors or he gets my other neighbor or me or his son to pull him out it is a great improvement looks good
@richardschaffling9882 Thank you! I think getting stuck is just part of the game. Like you said, having the machines and help to get it unstuck is the key 🤠👍
@davidfranklin249 Having acreage is a lot of work, obviously. But, the reward is huge and I love being surrounded by farmland. We don't own all the land, but we own the view! 🤠👍
Sam, thought you were going to make a pond where the cat tails were. If you are not, why not just run pipe all the way past the cat tails till the creek gets too deep and just cover it all with earth/fill and have grass?
@andrewk6844 Great question. There were several springs lining the creek, but I'm not 100% sure about where the cat tails were. Long term goals are to dig that area back out to create a pond. Right now, I just want it smooth and dry enough to be able to mow so it looks pleasing 🤠👍
