    Good stuff. Keep on doing stuff and don't turn into a "sam's selling stuff" channel. I like videos about a reasonable guy doing reasonable things that either accomplish a task or tell a story. I'm recommending you check out the FarmCraft101 channel. Check for the multi posts for the modification of his log splitter. He detached the ram and wedge from the original frame and mounted them inverted to a section (guessing 4 or 5 feet) of I-Beam, and powers it from the hydraulics of his small size excavator. His processing time is cut by at least 2X and his personal handling time is cut dramatically. He lifts the rounds using the excavator / splitter, and does it where he cut the tree to produce rounds. He can split them to any size desirable. Quite an amazing process to watch and the modification was pretty simple. You'll see ... it's really worth your time to investigate.

    Because of Neil Messick's videos, John with a A Ritter Bitt Wil Do, and Sam on Sam's Doing Stuff always showing and doing stuff with a Kubota BX tractor, I just had to buy one....JK, ok well kind of. I was watching a lot of videos about the BX tractor to see what it could do, how they held up, etc. As I was already in the market for a small tractor....all 3 of the channels were what helped me with my choice. about 3-1/2 years later and I'm so glad I got the BX2680....it does whatever I need it to do...and since its so small it fits into places where larger tractors simply cannot fit...a great example of that was helping a friend prep a spot in his back yard for a shed....the BX2680 and the RTR0550 barely fit between his house and the fence, I had about 2 inches to spare....a larger tractor simply wouldn't have fit back there. The back yard is really small too, so it also comes down to maneuverability too....a larger tractor even if it would fit between the house and fence probably would have been an issues trying to turn around, and such in the yard. Roto-tilled, leveled, packed, and spread gravel out in his yard....so much quicker and easier than doing it all by hand LOL. I have issues with impulse buying sometimes....but one thing I found out is on major purchases is to do a lot of research on whatever it is I'm gonna buy before I buy it. Look around, visit the store, try and find one I can try out first, etc. I've also had those times where, yep looked great in the video demo, went and bought the item, and either never used it, or used it once and either didn't like it or never touched it again LOL.

      Yeah BX’s such useful little machines. With a loader, mower and if you can fund it, a backhoe, you have a machine that can do a huge variety of tasks. I have a much bigger MX tractor for doing stuff, mainly mowing and picking up stuff. I’d love to have a little BX too. These two tractors would complement each other so well.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@kdegraa With only an acre of property, the BX works great for me, I do have the 60" mid mount mower for it, but given my current situation, its more of a pain in the butt because with the deck installed I can't get the tractor in the shop, so if I wanted to use it I'd have to install it, mow, then remove it before I could put the tractor away....Course only having an acre, the BX is a bit overkill for mowing my yard, but it does do a very good job, and honestly its not that bad, I figured it would be a pain due to the tractor being larger than a lawn tractor, but its maneuverability is pretty dang good. I have access to a skid steer and an excavator if I ever needed them, but the little BX2680 does everything I need most of the time....I call it my very expensive wheelbarrow LOL...I use the loader bucket to carry around tools and stuff when I'm doing chores HAHA!!! People may think its stupid but its an excuse to run the tractor around a bit, keeps things lubricated, and battery charged.

So many content makers do a review on something, and all they do is blabber on about specifications they read off a cute little pamphlet or off the website....then never actually do anything with the equipment, or item showing its actual use in the real world. Indeed with solutions looking for problems, but also highly technical channels (mostly in electronics) and then start to 'promote' very very cheap multimeters that are utter crap compared to what those persons usually do on that channel and use on that channel, or that they suddenly start to promote a device for outside (like a generator or so) where they've been an indoor electronics channel for years. Sam, that’s excellent information-thank you for sharing! I can relate to the challenge of impulse buying based on recommendations from TH-cam channels. When I bought my Kubota B, I added just one attachment: a set of forks. I passed on the backhoe and mower deck, thinking I’d only invest in what I needed. One product I thought was essential at the time was a stump digger. While it occasionally comes in handy, I haven’t been overly impressed with its performance. However, since I have a long driveway, I invested in a snow pusher, which has been a solid purchase. One piece of advice that stands out to me is something my dad used to say when I was a kid: “Work with what you’ve got.” That mindset has stuck with me, and I’ve found alternative uses for my attachments. For example, the snow pusher is excellent at dragging the driveway and moving piles of wood chips, while the stump digger is surprisingly effective for moving rocks and digging holes. As for rear three-point attachments, I still bought a bunch for my old Kubota B, but I rarely use them now. Money plays a significant part in tool purchases-if you don’t have the funds, you’ve got to make do with what you already own. The old Kubota handles all the rear attachments, while the new Kubota is reserved for loader tasks.

    Why do you fight geometry??? I always look for pieces like a piece of cake...triangular style.... one huge benefit of that shape is that it has a thin end and a thick end..so the thin end will dry much faster. Lets say you make 4 quarters out of a round....split away a triangular from the inside "side" and then make your squares from the piece left over.. If you can hop your shade and do not try to chase for the square pieces....you get more wood in the "good" box, and less in the waiste box. Just my 2 cents....say hello to triangular pieces!!! Keep going!

      @zarkum100 Thank you for your input. I think the best part is the passion everyone has for however each of us makes firewood. Your reasons are 100% valid. I just like the squares. Handling to much: referring to stacking it neatly to dry. Just a pile dropped from a conveyer belt lets airflow better and therefore also allows shorter drying time as well as alot less Handling of the material.

      @toddcaskey9984 I've been doing a lot of math. The totes are great. Especially when I can fill them. But, growth will make storing all of them in the barn impossible. I'm going to stick with what I have for now... maybe buy another 12 if I can swing it. That would give me 36. Divide that by 6 and I'll be able to store 6 cords. That's a good start 🤠👍

    Ive been cutting firewood for near 40 years and Ive always cut to a absolute maximum of 5 inches, with 4" being what works best, any bigger and fires does not heat properly and will actually burn to isolation having spent all its fuel trying to heat the logs not the room/heater/water and go out leaving 2 or even 3 inch thick bits of wood with big gaps between. so I don't know what people are talking about saying youre cutting it too small. Ive never used a log spliter I'm an axe in a tyre guy, although when I first started cutting firewood some one made a comic strip in one of the british rock climbing magazines with a character based on me called the "Mad axe man from Llanberis" which I have always found hilarious...tbh, I was a very tall 16year old, very skinny dude with a donkey jacket cutting wood with extreme exuberance and all by hand with an axe, so the title fit rather well....the drawing was recognisably me too lol

    Quick question about your tractor. When you bought it, did it come with the quick attach on the loader arms or did you have a pin on type bucket? A lot of the sub compacts come with a pin on bucket as is my New Holland TZ25DA tractor. I'm in MD and not too far from Messicks in PA, so I'm wandering if they can change out the pin on bucket, switch it over to a quick attach so I can utilize more options on the front end. Might want to consider some eye protection. You'll get one of those rounds that's a fighter, keep the pressure on it and suddenly...pow, she blows apart and you've got wood shrapnel in your eyes. Take care brother!!

    • @samsdoinstuff
      @samsdoinstuff 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you! My tractor came with the ssqa attachment for the loader but I have heard of some changing out the pin on style. Messicks should know what to do. It is very handy 🤠👍

  • @dakotakid1447
    @dakotakid1447 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Just an idea here, I understand your loader can't lift a full tote but it just bugs me to see half tote full taking up the space of a full tote. I don't know if you have an unlimited supply of totes or not but what if you cut the top ring or two off the tote making the tote shorter, filling it with two rows of wood(same amount and weight as before) and then stacking those two or three high. I'm not trying to point out a problem, just offering a suggestion. Lol

    • @samsdoinstuff

    You should still check out 'FarmCraft101' excavator splitter video, I do understand that size and precision is a big deal, but roughworking billets into two halves has it's benefits, the drying up starts earlier and those pieces are easier to handle, the downside is that you need to invest to another splitter, if you manage to find one with damaged motor it should be pretty cheap. Maybe worth considering.
