This channel is all about whatever stuff I'm doing on any given day. Since Covid hit, I've been forced to "retire" and started "doin' stuff". Quite frankly, I've never been busier! I am a jack of all trades / master of none but if something is interesting enough to make a video of, I'll shoot, edit and post it. here's a short list of what you'll see here: Tractor work, Kubota BX 2380 with grapple, Felling trees and processing firewood using my Stihl Chainsaws including the Stihl MS500i, plus various tasks like building stuff around the house and improving our 7 acre property.

Good stuff Sam, keep cuttin'!
The manuneverabilty of the compacts and subcompacts is an underappreciated feature. They are little workhorses and the ability to get into tight backyards, through narrow gates, use inside a barn, etc make them even more valuable to someone like me with lots of residential properties to maintain. If i was always working outdoors on a large tract of land I'd get a bigger one.
Good video and very well explained and well done. The only difference in Canada is that according to the CEC the wires in the panel that are going to be powered by the backup generator have to be pulled out of the panel and spliced in a separate junction box and not in the main panel. Since I'll be using my 8500Watt generator, I purchased the same brand inlet & panel but 50Amp and 50Amp power inlet ($950.00 icluding tax) myself and the electrician is charging me $1,600.00 for the installation only. So $2,550 for the complete installation. Yep, those are the prices in Canada.
@@galactichazzard8932 Wow! That's pricey. I spent roughly $500 on the Reliance Controls Transfer Switch kit and less than $100 on peripherals. Still, the peace of mind is priceless 🤠👍

@@shawnmontgomery1088 Opinions vary. I think the machine becomes what it's used for. Some folks never buy the mmm and only plow snow. The tractor becomes a snow plow. It all depends on the use 🤠👍
For 23 years I got by with a 25HP Yanmar and a 750 pound lift front loader to feed my outdoor boiler. Last September I bought a JD 240 skid steer and moved tons of wood with it for 2 months. In November the boiler finally collapsed and now I'm a propane burner. I have 10 acres to maintain, so I'll still keep both machines.

I decided to buy and will be picking up soon, an LX3330. I went bigger than I originally thought because everyone says to buy bigger than you think you'll need. Plus, for the acreage I have, this size is considered a minimum.
@@jimaronson2323 Congratulations! I really like the LX size and capability 🤠👍
@@samsdoinstuffPlus, the new 2024 "20" series has a lot of upgrades and improvements.
@jimaronson2323 the quieter hydrostatic transmission is a big plus
Look at the Tym 474, lifting capacity is way better than Kubota & it considerably cheaper. I had one for a couple years, great machine, ended up trading for a 58 hp LS w a cab, but the TYM was impressive for the money.
@briansmith4588 Thank you! I will certainly keep my mind open to different brands. Dealer support will also be very important. I have a few years to do research and i will make a very well informed decision.
Funny you posted this today. I laid to pallets of sod today and was glad I have my BX1880. Last weekend was cutting up three 12-15” trees. My friend brought is B2401 and made quick work of things. Wish my BX could do a little but it’s what I could pay cash for and has made hard work around the property less back breaking. I definitely see where you would benefit from a L series or similar.
@stuartkorte1642 Thank you! I absolutely love my BX2380, but when the time comes, I have a feeling I will love a bigger machine even more. I'm concerned about losing the versatility of the BX, but I bet the capability of a larger tractor will win out. It'll be a few years before I pull the trigger. I'm glad I'm starting my research now 🤠👍
I was in the same boat a little over a year ago. I went back and forth between larger tractor and skid steer, even almost bought a mini articulating loader. In the end I bought a larger tractor with the lift capacity I needed. I gave up some on being able to get into tight spaces, but gained so much more in capacity and HP it really didn't matter in the end. I also opted to go from open station to cab. That first winter I knew I made the right choice. Nothing better than moving snow in warmth and comfort. A guy can stay out longer and get more done, plus a little AC in the hot summer is never a bad thing. Best of luck in your journey in deciding which direction you go. It's not an easy or inexpensive decision to make.
@timbervisions Thank you VERY much for your insight and experience. I really think I'll go down the same road you did. I don't own a construction or excavation business. What i really need is to maintain my property. My greatest fear is to lose the benefits of such a small tractor but from what you say, the abilities of a larger tractor will far outweigh what I'll lose. Thanks again. Big decision and it will take a few years to pull the trigger. Glad I'm researching now 🤠👍
@samsdoinstuff test drive the model you're considering. I looked at all brands in my area LS, kubota, and kioti. I loved the MX, but that's a big footprint to get the lift capacity. I just suggest getting some seat time in each in your area and going from there. I ended up going with a kioti Dk5320se cab. Your milage may vary for what you need. Good luck!
@@timbervisions Thanks again!!!
Great advice Sam. I would love to have a tractor but I know it’s not practical for me. I would love to own one just for little jobs for myself or other people. Also for clearing my driveway of snow. Oh well, I’ll just keep on watching your channel to get my fix. lol. Thanks for another video Sam.

Good day Paul! Thank you 🤠👍
do yoy have 1/2 a mile to snowblow, every day in about 4 mounts ?? Vel for me the bigger the better
Wow! Yes, that would require a very stout snow removal machine 🤠👍
Some great points! I would like to add a few more. The Morgans is a fantasy. Been watching it from day one, but you don't need 5 million dollars worth of equipment to put out 50 cords a year and saw a few thousand board feet of lumber. Billy Maze. The other thing I learned personally is brand loyalty only goes so far. I was a Deere guy, but when I went to upgrade was about the time they were in the "Right to Repair" lawsuit which rubbed me the wrong way a bit too. I almost pulled the trigger and bought one , but I stopped. I did research and for the money vs performance and capacities Deere and Kubota were taken off the table. I watch another channel called "Lets Dig 18" Chris Guins is maybe late 30s and he has built an excavating empire, especially for one man. He bought a Kiote for his farm and basically told the nay sayers to pound sand and keep their Deeres and Kubotas. I gave that some thought and also remembered when RK loaned The Morgans 3 tractors way back and he was giddy about them and their performance and capacities. I eventually bought a TYM 25 hp with a loader and a 60" tiller for my 4 acres and have added a few implements. I really only needed it for one project (that paid for tractor) It is just so handy on the back, like you say. That tractor was $4,000 less than the Deere I was looking at, plus with the dealer being 45 minutes away and in a different county I saved another grand in taxes. The tractor lifts 1400 lbs. in the bucket, not at the pins and it runs the 60" tiller in hard clay with ease. The new TYM T 25 is more like a 35 hp tractor and has a 2200 lb. lift capacity. TYM makes RK Branson and one more I think. So between Mike Morgans early days and Chris from Lets Dig and the $5,000 I got to keep it was a no brainer. In your situation I would say you need a 35 ish. HP. capacity. With Kubota you will need the 40 HP range to lift a basket of wet hardwood and pay for the name. It really is a balancing act and how much you have and are willing to spend.
Always got what I could afford or did without. When a farm income is all ya have it was a lot of do without!! My theory was ya don't miss the things ya never had !

I had to laugh about your "getting older", it gets worse! At 82 I keep wondering who glued that bag of whatever to the ground when I go to lift it. Only advice I would give is to make sure you take into account what implements you are going to use and their PTO HP requirements. Nothing worse than looking to add say a PTO generator and find out your tractor PTO is way shy of the required HP.
@oakdalecarl9976 Haha! Planning for the future is SO important. If I'm lucky, in 30 years, I'll be lifting "bags of whatever" 😁 PTO and horse power are probably more important considerations than lifting capacity 🤠👍
Sam, your 100% correct. Everyone says go bigger than you plan, weather it's equipment, buildings, or etc. It's very easy to spend someone else's money 😄. Along with the bigger tractor is all new attachments. People need to get what they need not what other people think they need. Hopefully your daughter is feeling better by now.
@user-scooter1965 Thank you! She's almost 100% her same crazy self, lol. New attachments... didn't even touch on that! I think I've spent more on attachments than the tractor 🤠👍
I have a sub-compact tractor. I only have an acre, I don't need anything bigger....what I needed was something I could mow with, and do loader chores with, and be able to fit it into my barn/shop and move wood working tools around if needed, etc. I don't need anything bigger, I just needed something bigger than a riding lawn mower that has 0 lift capacity, and no 3 point, and no PTO. I've had my tractor since August of 2021...and only 118 hours on it, but its saved me so much manual labor, and a lot of ridiculously expensive tool/equipment rental expenses.

@@samsdoinstuff thats looks alright, do you find it to be enough or would you want a steel/glass cab? expensive cost is the problem with anything eh ...
@JackFrost008 On a new machine, I would absolutely get a factory cab with glass, lights, wipers, heat, a/c, radio. But i won't put that kind of money into a cab for this tractor. The golf cart cover keeps the wind and rain off and it does just fine for now.
Being a cash only guy myself I bought the biggest I could afford. Mahindra 26 HP. I got it 1 day after my plow truck broke down in the winter. I tried putting chicken manure on my corn, but I think now I'll just stay with butter> ;-0
🤣🤣🤣🤣 That was AWESOME 🤠👍
Corn thrives with any high nitrogen enrichment. An idea that the Native Americans had was to plant Corn, a climbing bean plant and a squash together. The Bean plants absorb nitrogen from the soil and the corn uses that, the corn stalk allows the bean plant a place to climb, and the squash plant shades out any weeds from around the base. I'm planting a field of pumpkins and decorative gourds next year to give the local school kids a place to come get some free pumpkins and gourds for the holidays. Maybe even a few pie pumpkin vines. We may also plant some sunflowers to give the birds and squirrels some seeds in the fall. We had a great harvest of cucumbers, beans and tomatoes this year for our first year using a raised enclosed garden. (Keeps the critters out, and we have a LOT of those here on the property.) If you'll prune back the apple trees, they'll produce more and better apples. Apples only grow on new growth for that season so pruning produces lots of new branches for them to grow from. We had the same issue with some ol apple trees on our property. Thankfully, the wife used to manage a historical Orchard on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Orchard at Altapass, and we learned all about managing apple trees. If you get the chance, we took a walk around the 30 acres and made a video of that experience I uploaded to our channel. We'll take another one once the leaves are really carpeting the forest floor in all their glorious colors.
Thank you SO much for all of that advice ❤️ 🙏 I know my Dad used to put grass clippings on his garden and that's high in nitrogen. I'll also look at that apple tree a little closer and prune the dead branches. Thanks again! 🤠👍
Sam, I grew up around cotton farms and they always planted alfalfa after the cotton harvest to put the nitrogen back into the soil. Look into what the guys doing no-till farming are planting for a cover crop. Each plant is doing something to help the soil. Beans fix the nitrogen in the soil. I think they were using turnips to break up the compaction. And some other things. Soil is a living organism and your job as a gardener is to make sure you have healthy soil then the plants will be good and healthy. The TH-cam channel stoney ridge farmer did a video on no till farming 5 years ago.
@@ericwolf5874 Thank you! That's great advice. My dad always tilled grass clippings into his garden. Lots of nitrogen in that. I'll try something different for sure 🤠👍
