I only can seem to find soft cases online for it and the only hard case I can find is for the Sp404 mk1. If you know of any I would appreciate if you can point me in the right direction, peace✌.
Mine is actually the step sequencer. I was never a step sequencer type person but it’s nice to have it on the SP because it speeds up my workflow. I’m not a true finger drummer and sometimes when I finger drum I find myself making the same rhythms. This gives me a chance to explore new ideas.
Need to spend a bit more time with those working out what to use and when but yeah this update is huge! The challenge is going to be remembering everything now haha
IMO, the more people who are using the sequencer, the more creative the music will be. I think it will get people out of that generic lo-fi rut and make them realise they can record just about any genre into the machine.
I totally agree. I've been using it to make jungle and breakbeat hardcore. I was doing that before this firmware update, but the step sequencer has just made it 10 times easier. The fact that you can resample patterns to pads as well is another huge bonus. There's no real advantage to using the old resample method any more to build a beat
@@hazyviews maybe 'creative' wasn't the right word necessarily, but the sequencer gives you the flexibility to create lengthy songs in the machine, and there's quantising, the ability to adjust your sample levels/apply effects to individual pads non-destructively. It opens up the ability to make music that's typically a bit more structured and tight, like EDM, techno, pop etc. (unlike your typical lo-fi shuffly beats). If you take the time to learn its quirks, it's very capable and has lots of advantages over the 'resample method'. I think you're asking for too much when you're looking to see something 'impressive' - a small fraction of users share videos of themselves using their machine. It's about the opportunities the SP opens up and the results it inspires that are important.

Just use the machine and then it won't all seem so alien to you (and maybe also spend less time being a dick to people online for no reason).

Huge update. Im still new to the SP workflow but this has só many cool QL updates. That's how it's done. Akai should learn from Roland. Also, get this man's drum packs! Absolute fire!

Thanks for the video! Awesome update from what I’ve seen here. Would love to see an adjustable loop _end_ point in a future update. Atm we can adjust the loop _start_ point per sample, but with a custom loop _end_ point (which is not the sample end point), we could turn a chop into a "voice" depending on what small portion of the sample we loop when we have loop=on gate=on and hold the pad. Hope I’m making sense there. Rock on!
I was using the step sequencer of my digitone to program the spmk2… now with the step sequencer feels like its christmas day again hahaha love it, definitely the most versatile piece of gear i own right now!!!
A tip for those who are trying to get a hold of one of these: shipments trickle into small music stores all over the country week to week day to day. Just put a search out every morning and you'll be surprised how quick you'll pick one up. I actually found two of them in a one week period. I chickened out on the Amazon one because I didn't know the seller, quickly regretted that after it was sold and then a few days later I found one in Portland Oregon at a small music shop. Good luck and happy SP 404 fishing.
Wow! What a great update. I also think chromatic mode can now be polyphonic AND recorded to the pattern sequencer, which is another HUGE improvement. Great video.
The Clouds delay looks like a copy of the MI Clouds module which is awesome. I really wish they would make Bus 3&4 controllable like 1&2. But THANKS Roland for Polyphonic chromatic.
Jesus melodic christ - now the Step Sequencer is a real boost. I dont need it to tap out drums, but as far as Im concerned, it will speed up my workflow a lot. I always lay down hats in one take -> copy to new -> snares -> copy to new -> kicks - copy to new -> other drums -> then copy «master drum pattern» to new pad row below before samples, melodics etc. Now I could bypass a few steps when a idea strikes. Wish there was an option to get it to hang around without needing to do the remain shortcut. I have my SP set up as an effects box, and having to hunch over the SP to use 2 hands every time I want to tweak an effect is a pain. If it's a problem for me, I can't imagine how something as frustrating as this hinders the creativity of people who are less able.

Does the sx delay let you go to 100% feedback? I was so upset when the mk2 delay only went to 99 because it prohibits doing the dakim style delay trick for super cool beats on the fly
Can you get them to address the issue of setting you BPM? sometimes it can be a real pain. That’s really the only complaint I have. Everything else is lovely.
I knew they would have an update when akai dropped theirs. I hope at some point they give us a grid and let us customize the default bpm that is on the main screen
Just let me turn off skipback and get back the old mark button so I can mark start and end without having to fiddle on the start/end screen. It was just fine on the sx.
I know what you mean man yeah it was handy just having a mark button, but you can use it in a very similar way if you just hit 'start/end' first. I know its an extra step but at least that's still there!
Do you not find the waveform editing method on the MKII to be a lot faster/more reliable? Either way, it would be interesting to see the devs allow you to boot into SX mode somehow and have identical functionality to the original machine. I did find making songs a lot more intuitive on the SX, in spite of all the upgrades to the MKII.
I’m saying! I would love for them to simplify this. It would be a dream to have an option for classic mark button functionality with the sub pad setup for skipback like the 555 loop capture
@spvidz yeah it’s an extra step. I loved that if you got good to do it by ear, you could be very fast and start/end “screen” was for fine tuning. Now start/end starts always with zoomed out, so you have to fiddle with zoom all the time. I think it’s actually way slower. And also, turning on loop in start/end puts loop point somewhere in the middle? Just useless, why not at start. I wonder if you could forward these to Roland if it makes sense.
Arguably not all their fault tbh but yes it has been extremely frustrating for the community trying to get them. It does look like its becoming a little easier now and orders are getting fulfilled which is great to see though
They’ve got to market the product though. Handing out what they gave to TH-camrs wouldn’t have solved the shortage issuess. The customers would still be in the same position minus a handful of units.

Not seen any hard cases. Maybe a small flight-case and cut the foam to suit might be the best option?

Being able to record in chromatic mode into the sequencer is a *huge* one. Will make recording basslines, leads, pads so much easier.

Is there a way to edit steps once they have been step recorded? I mean, change velocity, pitch, etc. without having to erase and re-enter them?
