So glad I believed in you guys and got the SP despite it missing a lot of crucial features for my workflow. Now it feels almost complete (just needs a way to export individual tracks to DAW and it will be an MPC / Maschine killer) Huge thanks for sticking to it and listening to your customers. THE ROLAND SP TEAM ROCKS!
Not a Maschine nor MPC killer. They can all co-exist as they are all different from one another. Additionally SP-404 doesn’t have any synthesizers.
Just love it for what it is and cut the juvenile consoles war bs.
@@defcreator187 I think they could implement digital audio paths for multiple channels though, much how native instruments does. I use a Maschine MK3 and have never had any problem assigning the digital output paths to tracks in Pro Tools. I agree with Jessus that the 404mkii would be massively improved if it allowed for more comprehensive mixing without a super tedious workflow. also, would the MK2 not run on a 110.7BPM if it were midi clocked? genuine question, I haven't tried this. I will say though, if you want a roland drum machine thats an MPC killer, get the MV8800/8000, I use one and I'm considering making it the centerpiece/midi brain of my studio.
Was not planning on starting a war, nor implying that it can do more than gear 3 times its price. Just trying to motivate Roland to keep working on it and make it more fitting in a studio environment. Would definitely be a Digitakt killer with some improvements 😉😏

Midi out sequencing would be cool. Like uploading midi sequences using the uploader software and have SP send that midi data out. Would make it the ultimate playback machine.

A game-changer of an update - very surprised that they did this. Add tracking out to a DAW, or even the ability to export patterns as stems (1 pad per stem), and I will be in heaven

that step sequencer feature is a massive improvement. thanks for the update. still waiting for the better delete function. like delete the whole note while in pattern mode without long press for the full bar. you know what i mean
Just in case you haven't tried this way, actually, when you select the pattern and then press SHIFT + REC it will show the steps, I believe from there you can delete/edit the steps you wish.

Deleting recorded samples from a pattern:
-Enter in [PATTERN SELECT]
-Select a pattern, press [DEL] - this will highlight all samples recorder inside the selected pattern
-Select those you wish to delete
-And finally press [VALUE] to confirm.

Well done, on the update; thank you! I'll join the chorus for the ability to save/transfer stems to a DAW. Also, would really dig seeing the SP404 editor get ported to iOS; would be cool to work with banks and projects to/from my iPad Pro. But really not bad at all fora product that's been out for just over six months....well done and keep it up!
Look out Akai Roland has now got a super powerfull portable Sampler. So happy i got one of the first in production . Now i see why Roland raised the price future proof and hard to get. keep up the Exellent Support Roland.
2.0 changes everything!
It would be nice to bounce individual tracks, so we can transfer over to a DAW for mixing and mastering, or when you connect the SP4MKII to have a project folder that you can transfer over.

😅I'd still like to see a few changes like:
1- Undo for effects parameters.
2- Renaming samples, pads, patterns with a chromatic mode similar template, containing letters.
3- Being able to move, or choose where to export samples to, patterns, maybe creating folders inside the SD card and more, without using a computer.
4- when you exchange pads, after recording a pattern, it does not recognize the exchanged pads.
5- Unshared sub-parameters for bus 1 and bus 2.

When I press remain, the pad/sample properties appear, from there it would be awesome to rename the pad in case.
it would also be nice if you could map the sub pad to a different funtion such as the bus 3/4 screen or the pitch/speed page.

Wishlist for further releases:
-Realtime swing settings
-Set default patternlength in utilities, editable in recording settings
-Solo pad for track out 2 daw
-SP1200 bit reducing
-Recording roll with swing settings in patternmode, mpc style you know
I love this. The default pattern length and down-sampler would be dope! I believe a few more effects are coming, since we got a third page now.
I wish the bus 1 and 2 don't bypass automatically after recording/resampling, plus if Roland allow the MKii to save the bus chain for each bank, it would help a lot.
@@mickeydonalds2106Yeah if bus effects could be saved per individual bank, that would be a game changer! Say bank A has vinyl sim and compressor and Bank E has reverb and isolator
Amazing update Roland! A few ideas to improve DJ mode:
1. Set and trigger cue points throughout a track
2. Allow bus 1 & 2 to be routed independently from bus 3 & 4 so DJ's could assign eq and effects to each track. Ex: Track 1 could is assigned to bus 1 & 2, track 2 assigned to bus 3 & 4. Place eq on bus 1 & 3 and an effect on bus 2 & 4. Now DJ's can control eq and and effect on each track independently without affecting the other track. This basically creates an internal mixer on the SP!
Roland, please don't forget the MC 707!

Incredible update! As others have said , it would be excellent to be able to split input fx so that the vocoder could be applied to a mic while keeping a backing track rolling :)

Wow! Just...wow. The only thing I'm hoping for in the future is maybe a fold mode for the scales? We don't need empty pads, just fold the scale to give us even more notes to play with! :D Syntakt does this and everyone is hoping Elektron brings it to all their machines. Really hoping we get a fold mode for scales on the SP404.

This looks amazing!!! Unfortunately I’ve still not been able to get mine delivered yet after months of waiting. Hopefully this will be remedied soon as this update looks awesome!!!
Please add a live looper function and separate the fx from the front input from the back inputs. It does not make sense to have the vocoder on the mic also apply to the stereo instrument inputs at the top where my synth would be plugged in. Also BPM detection can be wildly off. We should be able to name each project and have it show on the SP screen. The rest of the updates are a blessing especially the step sequencer. looong overdue. thanks

it's an awesome update!! suggestion for future update: would be nice to have a chain of effects for each pad. So you go to a pad, you shift click on any effects you want and it creates a chain of them and it remembers it PER pad.
Love the update just made a beat with it, love the additions. I was wondering if it was possible now or with a future update to allow pattern record from a outside source, I would love to have my sample going and add some strings or something on top without having to resample.
I woud like to understand the same thing: if I have the sequencer running with a kick for example, may I record my voice from a mic (ext. audio)? Someone please let us know :)

Wish list:
1. Have the team use the Digitakt exclusively for a week. Then, copy some of its best features:
2. Proper AHR envelope (affecting the sample gate)
3. Per-step automation in the sequencer - automate the activation of MFXs and tweaking of C1-C3 knob twists
4. At least 4 stereo tracks/channels over USB audio. Just copy the MC-101 code. 😊 Let us assign pads to different output tracks. This solves for easy stem exports of live jams.
5. Per-project MFX settings saved into project.
6. Workflow improvements. Like hold a pad/step in the step sequencer and press copy to copy that step, like on the MC-101.

@@mickeydonalds2106 Definitely some improvements in the 3.0 update, but it's still a pain to use the sequencer if you ask me. Putting in chromatic notes of an instrument is guesswork, for example, because there's no way of hearing which note you're putting in before it plays it back for you. More focus on quality of life updates would make a massive difference. So, not quite "almost everything done" if you ask me, but if I'm generous, I'd say "halfway there". 😊
@@sinewaymusic I personally don't use the sequencer, but I do understand everything you said, and I believe there's a lot of things to be improved instead of adding new features, sometimes that come with more bugs or are so complicated. Nothing against these updates, but I wish they could solidify what is already in the unit.

Another DJ mode request: External mixing mode
External mixing mode allows DJ's to send tracks' audio independently from one another so they can utilize an external mixer.
- Track 1 audio routed to Line Out; Track 2 audio routed to Headphones out
This allows DJ's to send track 1 & 2 independently from one another into an external mixer.

GAME CHANGER! and this is the clearest most thorough walk thru to date! actually some of the other SP ytubers missed a few bits im actually interested in so well done Roland its much appreciated.
one thing i would like sorted is some midi implementation oddities.
for instance the pad banks midi triggering being stuck on indvidual midi channels. if i understands the original chart right.
so for insance i have a JD-xi and its 4 sequencer tracks are hard coded in as
midi ch 1 = dig synth 1
midi ch 2= dig synth 2
midi ch 3= analog synth bass
midi ch 10= drums
so integrating the sp mk2 into a midi setup pad banks A to C and J would all conflict with triggering whatever samples stored on those pad banks?
would it be possible to code in pad bank to midi channel or even like the old Emu samplers you can choose a samples key range to trigger it and on any midi channel?
im not sure also if this is a thing already possible but it would shure be kool if like on the mpc’s external midi gear can be played via patterns written on the SP MK2.
im sure i could think of more but these few midi bits would be nice if can be done.

Can you please do an update that allows parameter lock so when you push and hold a step, in step sequencer mode, you change the parameter for only that step (velocity, pitch etc). As it is today you first change an parameter and then put out your step, it’s not so intuiative and slow.

I found it so weird that a Roland beat making machine did not have a step sequencer from the get go...od job adding it in nevertheless! All of us are not that good in live recording stuff in! Thank you!
Yes! I avoided buying this before this update and got the MPC-101 instead but now I know it would make more sense to get one of these as a 2nd groovebox. Both allow loading in stereo samples, loops, nature sounds etc. Between these and the 707, I'm very impressed! I've owned an Akai MPC Live II, a Synthstrom Deluge, and a Polyend Tracker before but they just didn't have the right mix of features. I definitely will consider an SP-404 MK II now, and hopefully customize it with some misty rainforest graphics when I someday get one. Bring updates to the MC-101 and 707 next, please!
A big thank you! If I may add an improvement suggestion - Could you add "start with Ext Source enabled" in the settings? I'm using the sp404 mk2 mainly as an end of chain fx, then sampling through the skip back function. Now I have to press "Ext Source" each time I start the device. (OK I know this is only 1 press of a Button, but quite often I'm puzzled why there is no sound!)
Another great feature in DJ mode would be: preventing load of a new sample on an active playing track.
The features on this thing really makes it compelling. But, at the same time... I'm just looking at the moon logic ninja acrobatics that my fingers would need to learn without any form of guidance on the screen or button layout. And I am imidiately backing off.
I mean. Sure. One can probably spend the weeks learning the cryptic button combos and menu divings needed for each task. But... I've had things like it that is just collecting dust right now because of the mental load needed to do the basicest of stuff.
I'll continue looking around for alternatives. All I really want is a box that can play samples polyphonically in chromatic mode, with easy input and editing of said samples. Playable with midi controllers that can handle the pattern stuff. Yes, the 404mk2v2 can do these all things. But it just feels overly complicated to get there.
At last, now it's on!
The thing that sucks is that once you click out of the sequencer you aren't able to go back in and edit the sequence. Bit of a bummer.

pretty cool. I like that alot. if it wasn't for this video I wouldn't have known that there was an update. did this update also solved the problem of the resampled pads sounding lower in volume output regardless to having that pad Normalized? because that's an annoying thing for me to be dealing with. for example if you put a sound on pad 1 and then ad that sound plus a new sound to pad 2 and keep going down to pad 3, 4 etc the volume of that pad keeps reducing and normalizing it doesn't quite fix the volume in fact it sounds distorted. 🤷♂️ not sure what I'm doing wrong as Roland customer service never got back to me it's been like 2 months now, 😅
You are recording at the same velocity? I had similar issue and turning off velocity or pressing at a higher velocity fixed it.
This sampler getting more powerfull with every update. Wow! Cant wait for my piece to come home🙂. Btw. is there sidechain compressor funktion already? This is one of my favourite FX in mpc one. I use it almost in every beat. Thanx to anybody to response. Peace.

I love the sampler and it’s immediacy, and all it can do for the price. But what are the odds that you can increase the octave amount that you can pitch or tune a sample? Especially higher?

I absolutely love this machine, but what am I supposed to do if I need my beats tracked out in stems for further work in a DAW? At the moment all I can do is manually record each pad by muting everything else. It's cumbersome at best. Please consider enabling options for us that need to get their stems out. I don't want to go back to the MPC One !!

could you let it record unlimited to the sd or maybe to a usbc drive in an update? so we can record a full live set without an external recorder... and usbc drive capability to use like the sd maybe for more storage? please and thank you...
Hi i just got my sp404 mk2 and im having updating issues. It says unsupported format i already formatted the sd card in the sp404 already but not luck. My computer is running on catalina

Hi. I was wondering if it is possible to connect this to a midi keyboard and use it as a rompler. This would be possible if you could change the midi values of the pads. Imagine sampling a whole piano and playing it live trough the SP404MKii. Make a setting where the midi value starts at its lowest in bank A and increases chromatically all the way to trough to the last bank! Is something like this possible now?

Roland if you read this I'm begging you to add a gate release (or envelope) to the 404 MK2 pads please! If I multi sample my synth into the SP and I want to play some polyphonic pads every time I lift my finger from the rubber pad (when it's set to gate) the sound just cuts off dead. This is so frustrating and making this from being the perfect device and stopping me from buying a second. I get the whole Attack/Hold/Release envelope for the sample itself but I need to be able to set a soft/slow release when I lift my finger from the rubber pad. I'm not alone in wanting this as I've seen quite a few people on FB or forums also desperate for this function. Please please pretty please! Really don't want to buy an MPC One as its overkill and I hate touchscreens.

A question when you added the snare over top of the kick on beats 5 n 13... The kick was no longer audible at all... I ask this because I saw this also mentioned as a concern by another popular TH-cam video reviewer on the mk2 as he didn't know why it was. I'm in the market and wanted to know if this was just a temp glitch or something?
Hoping the TR8S gets unquantised recording otherwise I might have to move to this?

I can't use it as a usb interface after the update... Am I the only one?
Just tested it and it still works. I will say 1 thing I've noticed now though is that adjusting end points for a sample makes the sample jump around and retrigger over and over while the sample is playing now. It wasn't like that before, makes looping annoying because you have to stop the sample to do it without hearing the same 1 second playing over and over while you try to find the loop point.
My sp404mk2 IS NOT UPDATING is any body having the same problem
Becoming a DJ is not my target.
I only want to use a microphone for my cahon and connect it with the SP 404MK2.
I want to use the sample sounds for my cajon.
But nearby nothing about how to use extern instruments/Microphone mit the SP-404MK2.
A lot about editing patterns, samples and so on, but nothing about this very simple question.
I tought Roland would bring a better service to the clients.
