Viewer Tries to Fix Their PS4 Slim - It Didn't Go Well -- Seller says this PS4 was stuck by lightning, then they tried to fix it but only made it worse. I'll start by checking the fuses, since that's what the seller said they tried to fix. Then we'll go from there.

One of the best channels and i hope yoire feeling okay brother ❤
Impressive 😮 Two thumbs way up 👍👍
Awesome job! You make it looks so easy!
very kind of you to say the previous person didnt make anything worse, they were likely inspired by someone like you that is talented enough to make repairs look easy. I think an important aspect of your channel is to inspire people to learn to fix things. Although dunking on the previous owner might be what many people think to do, it could discourage people who were reached by your enthusiasm and tried to learn to fix something
Rsther than inspire is actually to learn something
I agree 100%
When he confirmed the jumped fuse worked my first thought was “I hope he messaged the guy and let him know he was on the right track”
Things like this can be discouraging, especially when you feel like you’ve spent tons of time and aren’t getting anywhere, nice to know you’re going in the right direction
Unless of course the person didn’t mean to bridge it and accidentally goobered solder on there like I would have lol
This is one of the reasons I love to watch Steve, he is never negative about anything. He just see's problems that need fixing (with the perfect amount of thermal paste).
10:37 I haven't seen any videos recently but the zoom in was a good touch/idea. Maybe next you could include up close b roll for other hard to see stuff?
Its not much, but just wanted to say thanks for making these awesome vids! I know you're going through some stuff...just know we're all behind you! Thanks again and cant wait too see the next vid!
Thank you so much for your support! Really appreciate it.
Great job Steve. I hope you're feeling better and recovering well buddy. Much love to your family ❤
Thanks Phil/ I had round 1 of chemo about 10 days ago and not feeling too bad. 5 more rounds to go!
@Tronicsfix genuinely thinking of you bud. I know that's a cliché and people say it all the time but I've had to deal with similar recently (not me, a family member) so I can imagine what we went through is 100x worse for you. I'm sure you'll get through this tough time though and be back to your old self in no time. You also know where I am if you ever need someone impartial to just listen and talk bud
@@Tronicsfix Good to hear that, keep recovering well! I had similar thing (if not the same) 10y ago and I felt pretty bad for 2-3 days every 2 weeks, but as you wrote in your last yt post, chance of cure and remission is pretty high for this one, so you should be fine. :)
Genuinely thinking of you too. Weird, I’m a random mother of two from Norway, but your videos are my escape from my reality…😂❤ Been rewatching all your vids the last days. I guess we’re a whole bunch of people genuinely wanting the best for you Steve 🙌🏻 Best wishes!!!
I didn't know you got cancer, hope you'll get well soon... Tronicsfix is the only tech fix channel that able to present entertaining content of repairing electronics compared to other (after Ben heck)
YOU ARE AMAZING. You are the Console Whisperer
Thank you for sharing god bless pray 🙏 you feel better
I’m so amazed that you know where everything goes after taking it apart…I’m also amazed at your knowledge to fix these things
Could you try to fix a ipod shuffle 2nd generation greeen plz
Something about the "perfect amount of thermal paste" being used and not spreading it evenly, is driving me bananas... You are however, inspiring me to go back to what I used to do as a kid, open every electronic that has an issue or stopped working and fix it or break it more!
Thank you very much to the fan who sent this ps4 in, this is a very nice puzzle 😁.
You did a great job with this PS4❤
Watched so many of your videos and it sparked my interest into this as a hobby, since then I’ve opened up a switch joycon I’ve had broken for years and found the right bumper button broken off. With the knowledge of your videos and a ifixit kit I successfully!!!!!!! Swapped the mother board (lmao) from a device with bad battery and stick drift. Then I changed my fans and thermal paste on my gaming laptop! Then yesterday I changed the charging port on and dsi XL and it works!!
I think it was the seller who did try to fix this console and actually got somewhere in that circuit.
As always, excellent video!
I would love to see you repair lcd tvs or gaming monitors
I had a slim since November 2016. Gave it to my son 2 years ago and noticed it didnt have the same speed it once had.
Watched your video on taking them apart, gave it a MASSIVE cleaning from all the built up dust. The original thermal paste was hardly even there. I got the 2nd most expensive kind at bestbuy and added about the same amount as you do.
Put it back together (of course with a few extra screws left over) and it runs as good as it did when I bought it. Nicely cleaned, quiet, and smooth.
Steve obviously you know what you have done. The best channel consistently producing educational but noob friendly content. Steve...you bridge the gap.
When he said "It was hit by lightning" - Lightning was his horse.
Another Magical Repair Steve as a matter of interest what was your hot air gun temperature & air flow % when replacing the fuse as I'm having trouble when it comes to these micro fuses lol 😆
There is some screws remaning left i was just checking the components of the ps4 slim but there's some screws left pls reveal the screwdrivers
I had a ps4 slim, it was overheating so, I watched you and decided to fix it. It now works fine and it is my dads now as I have an og ps5.
would love to see more videos about ps5 slim and the smaller heat sink and what noise levels and temperature it results in compared to original fat ps5
Thanks for showing us again what the perfect amount of thermal paste looks like 😁😆👍👍
I know it seems like a shot in the dark but, would you be interested in trying to fix a guitar amp? It is a boss katana and they pretty much said they don’t do repairs on them but, seeing as you are not bad with a soldering iron, can maybe read schematics to fix stuff, maybe this thing is right up your alley.. would be cool to see it done because I haven’t seen any videos of anyone actually fixing one.
I should add the amp is not a tube amp but, rather a solid state digital amp which is more in line with what you do.
Learning from you, and buying the equipment. I think I'm ready to start restoring old consoles.
I know I will still have to fail a lot of times before I get good at it. But because of your videos (and other channels) I'm finally willing to give it a go.
The poor packaging directly correlates to the persons mental capacity. YIKES!
Your looking good dude ^__^ Hope your feeeling better and nice to see your videos!! ^__^
Anyone else notice when he used the compressed air he sent his screws flying
Thanks for the tutorial for fixing a ps4 slim
I'm now to the channel and been watching a lot of videos lately. Can anyone explain to me the "perfect amount of thermal paste"? I assume it became a regular channel thing over something funny or important xD
We love that perfect squeeze of thermal paste🤎🤍🤎🤍🤎🤍🤎🤍🤎 It pleases us 🤎🤍🤎🤍🤎🖤
I don't know why I love watching these videos but what you do is so impressive. You're an inspiration Steve
Been on a kick lately, bought like 7 OG Xbox, 3 ps1's a wii u... xbox 360 s mod kits, the whole shuhbang waiting for my 10k resistor to finish the mod, currently cleaning one of the xbox's out and going over the dvd drive, which im also waiting on my grease to get here. 😆 but it's keeping me busy and is super fun. Now all i want to do is figure out how to spray paint one of the ps1 slims with like crash or abe on it, but having a hard time figuring out how.. stencil and spray paint is so far my best idea. Idk maybe you have a better idea steve?
Love you buddy you bless us with your content
Excellent job.
forgot to change the small flex cable that was mangled
Thinking of you Steve and all the best my friend. You can beat this. I know I had 4 rounds of chemo last year and a stem cell transplant for ny Myeloma (blood cancer). All the best.
I WATCH YOUR VIDEOS KEEP IT UP. LOOK SOME XBOX 1X HAVE A HDMI PROBLEM WHERE THERE IS NO PICTURE MAY BE YOU COULD LOOK INTO IT.🧐🧐🧐
Thumb up for the transition at 1:09.
Lidl have the same kit.
I see another device is the victim of the misguided idea that the owner can make money from parting-out their broken equipment. They take them apart before actually checking if the parts are worth anything. Poor souls.
I just love watching your videos. In a busy world, it’s my relaxing place and just seems to massage my brain
Dang. Was hoping you would have at least tried to manually spin the old motor to see if it was actually frozen or seized and was the true cause of the issue, but I don't doubt your expertise. Another great job.
they wont always be frozen or seized. bad bearings can be the problem too
True. Was just curious if it was actually seized or not.
The seller did packaged that like a complete idiot.
You forgot to put new thermal pads on a few chips on the APU side and on the memory chips on the clamp side. They're very important, because they're known to overheat without them. You should place them.
It's no surprise the person couldn't fix it. They can't properly mail it. Before someone thinks of taking a ps4 apart to fix it there should be a website with some questions you need to answer. One could be, "would you put loose screws in a box and mail it to someone?". If you answer yes, a thing pops up that says your not bright enough to attempt a fix
Steve you're a beast!
Where’s the best place to pickup the perfect amount of thermal paste?
Should do more drones like the Mini 3, 4 pro.
I’m worried about crashing mine. Even something as simple as breaking an arm would be a GREAT repair video. I seen the other videos you done on the lot of drones.
Hi Steve! Just wanted to say thanks for showing me how to dismantle a PS4 Pro some years ago when mine became desperate for a deep clean. I was willing to dive straight in, but I've learned it's best to go into these things with half an idea before jumping in with fingers of sausages and fists of ham.
Tomorrow I will be deep cleaning my 99th and 100th (!) PS4 model, a number of which I probably wouldn't be at if your video hadn't given me that boost of confidence to dismantle it properly! So thanks for all the entertainment and advocacy for O/O repair! Oh, and helping me pad my wallet out a bit more... 👍🏻
wow
You got a jigsaw puzzle, and made a PS4 Slim out of it. Nice work. Teardown vids are good for new starters, but reassembly in correct order and position is so important.
Thanks for another great video, hang in there!!
Glad to see you continuing to upload man! Love the content and wish you a speedy recovery! Kick that cancer’s ass brother! Much love ❤️
Funny how "thunder struck the console", they were taking you for a ride because they had no actual idea what happened to it. Let me tell you there would be a whole lot more burns marks on the board if that would even be (a possible) case.
Make a video about using carbonaut instead of liquid metal on PS5
I didn‘t See any thermal Pads? Did you forget them? 🤔
Okay. I think the one thing we all overlooked is... how was it struck by lightning
"Hit by lightning" = "Thrown out window by angry girlfriend."
No thermal pads on memory ?
It's always awesome to see you take nothing and make it reusable for someone to use.
I'm guessing the original seller was trying to remove every screw in the PlayStation......
Great work! Frankenstein PS4!
Looks like if you order furniture online.. 1000s of pieces to set up.
Great video like always 😊
Hey Steve! Thanks to you I was able to replace the fan in my ps4! As well as the thermal paste and thermal pads! It no longer overheats or sounds like an airplane 😂 Thank you for everything you do as well as influence us to repair and create less e-waste!
You should make a video on how to pack electronics for shipping. The gameboy I bought on whatnot was packed beautifully.
I probably would if I thought it would get good views.
How possible is a comment from yesterday on a video posted just now?
@@kforkrishpatreon or channel members get early access, pretty standard across YT.
@@kforkrish My guess is Patreon gets access first
@@nicholaswalter4107 This. The videos are posted private with a link for Patreon subscribers and then made public afterwards.
Do those hdmi testers confirm that only your hdmi needs to be replaced as long as it seems to turn on?
I respect someone willing to try and jury rig something that may or may not be out of their league. 😂
Hey, atleast they saved you time taking it apart, piece by piece by piece, by piece
The Perfect amount of Repair! Great Repairs and Video! Thank You. Get better soon!! 😀
While playing game on my ps4 it shows static on screen then shuts off... whats wrong 😢
Here's a good question for you... Is there a second - inside the unit - place where the serial number can be found?
I loved this video Steve! Specifically how focused and serious you were throughout the video. Some of the videos you joke around a lot, but this is to the point and informative. Bravo! Thank you
Why would you send electronics like that??? That's the worst thing the person did in this situation
Another great fix Steve well done from Australia 🇦🇺
I hope everything works well for.your health
You did replace the motor though. They might not have tried that and that was likely the issue.
Big difference between slim and missing parts thin.
Iam guessing "Reset the switch" just meant you didn't have the TV on?
How does someone gets their PS4 struck by lightning?
From a box of parts to a working system, nice save Steve!
Shipping it that way is just pure laziness on the sellers part.
You took it apart but could not put it back to post, use antistatic bags or good packaging. 😅
It's so cute how he calls a square belt a "band".
Thank you for the content Steve. Hope you are doing well!
When all else fails, the iFixit sledgehammer can fix anything.
Sei un Mago Bravissimo
Get well soon Steve! While you continue to fix things, God will fix/cure you. Stay strong and positive buddy
People who packs electronics in pieces like that have no business trying to fix anything.
I have a ps 3 and a ps 4 how can I clean some games that are scratched and with fingerprints can I clean them with alcohol
I am mad at the way this was packed. 😭
Nice videos i love your videos keep up the good work 👍❤
i took apart a ps4 to do a repaste when it was running loud. my god it had SO MANY screws, and different sizes. so annoying. ive taken apart bunch of laptops and a few desktops, that ps4 was so much worse
Love these videos where you try to fix a box of garbage!
This Disc Game has been like every type of PlayStation, how is it still alive?!
How could you not know witch way around the ribbon of the disc drive goes?
You didn't even removed it xD
Maybe their dog's or cat's name is Lightning.
