  • I Paid $40 for this Broken PS5 - I Think I Got Ripped Off! This started off poorly with the box not being properly sealed, the bag of screws not being closed, and there was zero padding protecting the console parts. But I'll still take a look and see if I can get something to work.

      Former eBay seller here. eBay doesn't take a cut of shipping paid. So a common tactic (that I didn't use mind you) is to put a cheap price on the item but charge $$$ on shipping.
      So say your item is normally sells for ~$100 and would cost $20 for good shipping. Instead of eBay taking a chunk out of that $100, you list it for $20 and offset the $80 to shipping. You still only spend $20 in shipping and just pocket the $80 extra.

      @@Donut0389 You must have stopped selling on eBay 20 years ago, your shipping scam hasn't worked for a long time. The bit you left out is if the customer complained, you'd refund the item price but not shipping, hence all the $1 + $99 shipping items.
      eBay charges fees on the total price the customer pays. Listing a low price with high shipping only makes you show up first in the listing, and eBay tends to take a dim view of excessive shipping fees.

      sounds stupid but what I do is I film packing the box and bringing it to the postoffice and sending it on its way in one long video - So if they claim it hasnt arrived or crap like that, I am good.
      You can make the video even longer and include the part where you use the CPU in a system and its working.
      I know its pathetic to have to do it, but everybody will try to scam you, so you gotta cover your bases - or dont bother with ebay.
      I am a strong believer in throwaway culture. Dont bother with old stuff, dont buy it, dont sell it. throw it away, fill the landfills. Yeah sucks for the turtles and bees and other critters but its better for my well being.

    I bought a 5:1 surround sound system (Sony) and it arrived in an enormous box packed with someone's bed pillow but it arrived with speaker leads missing and a broken remote. I had spoke to the seller before I bought it and he assured me everything was there but it wasn't and speaker leads are ridiculously expensive for some reason so I asked to return the item. I was sent a label for a parcel up to 2KG and this lot weighs in excess of 15KG so I contacted the seller and he said "I'll send you a label", 3 weeks later no label and no contact so I started an ebay dispute for a refund. Ebay refunded me after 5 days and I have my money back and a surround sound. Strange that some people just don't seem to care either way, not a good selling technique IMO🤣🤣🤣🤣

    The reason sellers have ridiculous shipping rates is because eBay doesn’t refund the shipping costs back to the buyer. Only the cost of the item can be contested not the fees around it. It’s a scam

    • @impairedspoons9934
      @impairedspoons9934 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      not true you can get postage refunded if it's not as described or a faulty item. You just have to ring them, which isn't that hard to do.

    • @allymomkk
      @allymomkk 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      incorrect, they do if its not as described etc. you get a full refund... it just shows up as a cheaper option when filtering ebay for whatever it is you are looking for... also in the past (years ago) ebay didnt charge fees on shipping, but changed that like 10-12 years ago

    • @falcongunner33

      no you get all fees back and the seller has to pay for return postage , they should send you a label (barcode to scan to print etc), which you use to return it , not sure if fleabay pays at first then gets it back from the seller so it costs him even more , as they can get their postage back from the guy .

    i feel like $40 for a parts only PS5 in rough shape is still a pretty good deal. (seen people spend well over $100 for donor party only PS5s)
    but if they sold it as a Working product that' just needs a little repair and it showed up like that then yeah that's a pretty bad deal especially with nearly a $100 shipping cost.
    idk how the shipping costs work entirely on said site but i know some people will over charge shipping so they can pocket the excess while making the base cost cheaper and more appealing. i think that counts as a type of fraud right?

    • @MuggsyTM
      @MuggsyTM 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn't say fraud, but dishonest. That's definitely what they were doing was putting a high shipping price and hiding it under a lower buy price. In that case (especially how it was shipped), they should have just charged $130 (original buy price + the $90 they put for shipping) and just did free shipping. Same price and at least the bad shipping job he could have at least argued he did free shipping so it wasn't going to be great (still wouldn't have been a good excuse, but would have at least made more sense and come across slightly less dishonest).

    • @f937r
      @f937r 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's exactly what some will do. I've seen people charging $15 to ship a Gameboy USPS standard and it'll just have a single round of bubble wrap in the standard $3 USPS box. I bought a GBA SP screen from someone outside of ebay (on his own site) for $5 and the shipping was $3 and it came in a standard USPS shipping bag in its own strong cardboard jewelry shipping box.
      Sellers think they'll get more money by hiding the fees inside of shipping. But eBay takes out of shipping because of folks trying to scam the system.

    4 years ago, I purchased a DX6 RC transmitter . I paid $140 and it worked 1 time and quit. I opened it and found all the screws loose on the motherboard. Upon closer expection, I found the mother board damaged beyond repair. I ended up saving a few components from it and ordered a brand new transmitter. I learned my lesson concerning buying used electronics on E- Bay. I saved nothing by buying someone else's junk.

    this is why whenever I buy something from someone on ebay, I always look at the reviews the seller has, the amount of reviews, look at the negative reviews if they have any, and how long they have been on the site for as well as other items the seller is selling to get a general idea as to whether or not it's worth buying from that person or to look for another seller

    For some reason, within the past year or 2, eBay sellers don't know how to pack stuff right. I had a seller just throw DVD'S in a box and send it with no packing at all. Had another seller just toss a CD in a padded envelope that looked like it had been used before, and the padding was almost non-existent.
    Finally, I had a seller that just put a valuable xbox 360 game in a plain envelope, no padding at all! Needless to say, all arrived damaged. Of course, when I contacted them about it, they blamed the USPS.

Needless to say the guy never responded and eBay closed the case several days later. Just shows what can happen buying/selling used electronics.
