Both CV joints on my parents 307 SW were clicking. With your video i’ve managed to replace both axles!! Thank you very much! I’ve choosen to order complete axles and no seperate joints which is a worthy expense to save a lot of time!
Thankyou for this video instructable, it tells the story very well. The more you find out about the 307 the more you come to believe satan was the chief designer. I have just had to refill the outer CV boot with grease as the offside d/shaft was knocking. (inner clip had come loose allowing it to spew out) This was the point at which i discovered the outer clip cannot be undone, and now i understand the CV joint cannot be removed without destroying it, so a new gaiter needs to be of the stretch type...which then introduces loads of grit and rust into the joint as you instal it... Jeez! 307 toolkit- Box of matches, newspaper, 2 gallons of paraffin.
Why is it that nobody knows the correct way to remove the outer CV joint from the shaft?? This is the second YT video I have seen where the person has no real idea of what he is doing. On the end of the outer end of the driveshaft is a circlip that retains the outer CV joint on the axle. You cannot see this (yet). Put the shaft in a good vice with the CV joint facing down. Using a decent brass punch and hammer, strike the very inner lugs that are closest to the driveshaft. One or two decent hits will force the CV joint over the circlip and it will fall off. (this is what you do if only changing the CV boot, but works the same if changing the outer CV joint). Put your outer CV joint in the vice thread end down. Put the new boot over the axle shaft first!! and then align the spline of the axle into the CV joint (NOW you see this circlip). It will rest on the circlip, so using a small plain screwdriver, move the circlip in around the circumference and the axle weight will then force the shaft fown into the CV joint spline. Some taps with a soft cace mallet on the shaft and you aill hear.deel the clip expand and now the CV joint is locked to the driveshaft. Lubricate joint if needed, slide boot bown the driveshaft and put the new retaining clips on. This type of design is common on PSA/Fiat/Mitsubishi and most other cars.
hose clamp/Jubille clip round the locking ring and shafte allows you to slide the CV on without drama, and as Tiago megalhaes has already mentioned the CV joint will slide off with a blow to the rear without the need to destroy the joint. Another method is to use the drive shaft like a slide hammer with a vice.open the vice the width of the shaft slip it in then tug the shaft back hard till the CV strikes the end of the jaws.
Info please. I was changing my shock absorbers and I’m guessing that my joints didn’t have a lock position as you mention in this video. As soon as I removed shocked. The axle came out of place.about. Half a liter of oil spilled out before I pushed the axle back in. Please help. Do I need to do something else or is pushing it back in enough? What do I do if it continues to spill after I add transmission oil. Thank you
Great video. I think there is a possibility to just remove the CV joint with some extractor tool so you don´t have to remove the axle. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thnx
Hi YP, Do I understand correctly that you would like to know how to remove door lock cylinder from the car door? Or is it something else, you mean? Cheers!

if you use a socket and a breaker bar life will be easier for the tough nuts. Inexpensive tool but soo useful
thank you man keep it going
Will do Ali! Thanks for support!
