Hi Mischa; I appreciate your view and experience with sporty cars. If you could choose to own a 991.2 GT3 or 992.1 GT3 to drive on street (fun on weekends) and of course drive on Nürburgring > which one would you take and why (let's forget the price difference between 991.2 and 992)? I saw online (Rennlist) a lot of people prefer the 991.2 GT3 for having a more pure driving + more involvement and wondered if you share this opinion? Thank for the reply ;)

Honestly Misha, no car maker can escape economy or regulations. And why is it a bad thing if parts are shared across models? I'm with Chris Harris here, you don't get out of a GT3 and say "I wish it had more power". I think it's about time we appreciate what we have because it is bloody good and it's going to be over some day.
I think Misha is appreciative but wants more of a wow element. I miss older BMW Ms where with each new model the engine was the spectacle - something special - what could have they done to make the GT3 more special? (other than giving rear seats that I am thrilled about!)
For potential GT3 buyers it‘s a much better deal to simply buy a used low mileage 992.1 GT3 for much less money. It comes even cheaper than the latest GTS. Additionally you don‘t need to beg Porsche for an allocation or go through Porsche Financing. After all, you can buy a used GT3, get a Manthey package and still be cheaper off
It is SO refreshing to see people talking about cars like you do; not just the same and the same press note releases and zero critiques... Thanks Misha for this honest review.
The market was greedy, dealers and first buyers markups, Porsche is only pocketing it right away now, can’t blame them, if there is not enough competition they will do that, pure free market dynamics.
@@miguelosterroht "free market dynamics" do not dictate that a company should spoil their product quality and hike the prices. Dealer markups have nothing to do with this issue.
@@zix_zix_zix there is no issue. It’s simply that there was room for a price hike and more profits and Porsche made de decision to do so, dealers markup just proved this point, demand was not decreased enough with the hikes, it’s that simple. Porsche margins are still quite modest for a niche/sports car brand. Go check Ferraris margin (spoiler, it’s obscene, way higher than Porsche, simply because they can).
I’m sure they’d love to, but unfortunately EU regulators are under the impression that they can solve climate change/global warming or whatever by choking the flat six engine in 911 GT3’s meanwhile cargo ships, jet airplanes, and semi trucks have virtually zero emissions regulations 👌
Another important aspect that Misha forgot to mention in the video is the weight. Thanks to all the new safety and environmental regulations of the EU, Porsche had to embody a significant amount of extra body reinforcing parts, various catalysts etc, which all contributed to the increase in weight. I think this is the reason for Porsche’s justification of the introduction of Weissach Package in a non-RS car for the first time. The lightest possible configuration of the 992.2 GT3 (Weissach Package + Magnesium wheels) is actually heavier than the 992.1 GT3, which wasn’t even offered with lightweight options like the Weissach package (albeit the number is pretty much negligible). This means that the 992.2 GT3 without the WP is significantly heavier than the 992.1 GT3. Considering the amount of changes Porsche applied to the 992.2 GT3, the price increase is simply not justifiable.
I have a strange feeling with the aftermarket the 992.2 might be a better platform because it has better cams, reworked intake that is supposedly better, shorter gear ratio ect. Then again I'm in the US where OPF delete and secondary cat delete won't trigger a violation as long as the primary cat and o2's are still there.

2:17 @mgcharoudin2 Porsche doesn't really _have_ to meet any CO2 emission targets. The price increase already pretty much over-compensates potential fines! E.g. even if the increase in CO2 emissions from 992.1 GT3 to 992.2 GT3 would apply on average to Porsche's whole fleet sold in EU, an additional fine Porsche would have pay, would be covered multiple times by the price increase from 992.1 GT3 to 992.2 GT3. The only problem is that Porsche would have to start paying fines for all EU cars sold, once the exceed the overall fleet average limit. But they also increase their prices for all models step by step anyway. So, for a manufacturer selling cars on an average fleet price level like Porsche, emission fines are a non-argument. Bottom line: Blaming emissions regulations is a flawed argument for castrating high performance cars.
Thats correct. 2018 was the last good year for cars. Since then more tech and the cars are following Eu regulations which are make them boriing and heavier.
What I'm hearing is they played it safe with this one... they cut cost where they can, tried to improve reliability a little bit, bumped the price up because _new shiny_ Apple model and called it a day
Yeah sounds impossible, yet with Christina Ann Tucker, I've come to the conclusion that financially anything is possible. I got my self my dream car 🚗 just last weekend and a whooping $320k in savings already, My journey with her started after my best friend came back from New York and saw me suffering in debt then told me about her and how to change my life through her. The .2 is a big improvement for the touring. The wing car is just subtle refinements to keep it in line with the .2 Carrera updates and they are fighting the emission regulations to stay at the same hp level. I think the 992.1 was the peak for GT3. We may never see big improvements again.
I think it's pretty much symbolic for the state of the industry. Nobody really knows what to do in terms of development, since it turns out that the "transformation" to 100% electric vehicles didn't work out as promised. EVs are not being bought, but the legislation is still there, so the manufacturers can either invest tons of money into cars that nobody wants, or they can run into penalties imposed by the lawmakers. It's a problem that has to be engaged culturally and politically. The dogma of "sustainability" as the prime directive has to be broken at some point, and people need to remember that freedom is more important eventually, and that it is the most important hill to die on. There are no inherent limits to both bureaucracy and sustainability, and any kind of automotive fun is pretty low on the food chain of things that are going to be considered expendable for the "greater good" of the Sustainable, Net Zero, Circular, Stakeholder Economy.
Plenty of people want electric cars, for the average person who just wants something simple, quiet and reliable that just works there is often nothing better. Being able to charge your own car at home is really nice.
@@swecreations That's true, there is quite a big market share, but it's not anywhere near 100%. Especially not sports car buyers, but also at the lower end, if you live in a rental apartment and can't charge either at home or at work. Modular, standardized battery swap systems would solve almost most issues that stand in the way of higher EV adoption rates, but as of now, nobody seems to be working on that. There's a Swedish company called Power Swap who developed such a system in ~2017.
@@swecreations Maybe in cities/urban areas, but no in German Backland/villages where I live. And it's by far not so sustainable, like it is propagated.
if you actually watch Seen Through Glass video on GT3, Jorg says there will be no "official lap time" for 992.2 GT3 (they already attempted lap record for internal purposed at the ring)
1. 1st world problems. 2. the previous model was already perfect. How do you improve on perfect? 3. I guess it would have been illegal to continue selling the previous model because of the enormous emissions. The other option would have been to put a turbo on it. Would you approve of that? I guess not. 4. don't be so disappointed. If not for the Taycan and Macan EV, there wouldn't even be a naturally aspirated Porsche. 5. how much CO2 does a GT3 emit on a day at the Nurburgring? And then we're surprised that floods wreak havoc in the area. These floods are at least made worse (if not even caused) by all these emissions.
I much prefer the 992.1 GT3, looks more aggressive as well imo, this new gen front end makes it look way tamer, not a fan of the new front end at all, the back end looks decent but I still prefer the 992.1 over this one...
This platform/drivetrain is obviously at the limit. Although dinamically inferior to the latest cars, I have always preferred the "older" 997 and 991.2 (manual only) models. Anyway, we as car enthusiast have to be thankful for cars as these to exist at all when you consider all the BS the green bastards are throwing at us. Cheers!
I disagree, I don’t think we’re at the limit yet. But I guess we’ll have to wait and see what the next generation brings. That will be the ultimate test
They brought it closer to the RS with sizable improvements, and like you mentioned the gen 1 was already amazing. I think they improved what they could and left the rest for the RS, this is a good facelift. Respectfully...
i can understand why Porsche hasn't changed anything much, because so many people are always complaining about how the new model is shit, but in reality some people need a lot of time to get used to the new things and then after a few weeks or months they like it, But that's all just an illusion because the manufacturers always change so much from the older model that we immediately say it doesn't look good
I think Porsche is following the formula of "If it ain't broke don't fix it", because a lot of people know that the 992.1 GT3 is already near perfection, so they just changed some bits and did some minor improvements mechanical wise. Talking about the engine is to the big thanks to emission norms it's very difficult to make power😔
I can’t get over that the car is allegedly 100 lbs due to some crash structure modifications needed to be added because of the available rear seating. I have owned several GT3’s and even regular 911’s are absolutely miserable for anyone to ride in the back, but a GT3 is borderline cruel and unusual punishment to ride back there for any reason. I guess it will help some guys sell the idea of GT3 ownership to their wives but everyone else suffers
In your dreams. The brand itself doesn't make anything for the average Joes. Even the used Boxsters or Caymans are traps, because sure you can buy them, but the service cost will hit you harder than a train. I don't know how old you are, or why do you have such delusions like this, but you among other people desperately need a reality check, no offense, JUST saying.
Your opinion is true and correct, But I will add mine if we will see it from Porsche perspective, first is the power, its pretty clear due to the emissions the power or the torque will go down little bit , the solution is shorter gear ratios, from our experiment the ST, then for stock application it will feel faster due to shorter ratios, then for the emission, let us say that not small number of the costumers who use them cars on the track will remove some of the emission to higher flow cats and our mission to pass emission has been done, for the ppl who will put high flow cats the will feel the difference due to the camshaft from the RS, with this tuning this platform will put easy 30+ hp, then the control arms if the are RS then the normal GT3 did share fantastic parts in smaller car and size! Better cooling and shorter ratios also a mission to give costumers who have the 992.1 the chance to upgrade. Now the ST yes its special but ppl will feel that the new 992.2 touring will do the same, but let us not forget the lower weight and less sound deadening + the most important part is without the rear steer and single mass flywheel. ST platform is the after market part for your normal GT3 if its normal in any shape or form. ST did provide us the delete kit of the rear steer, and the single mass flywheel. It’s a business at the end. and they want the costumers to have aftermarket part they say that some did pay enormous amount for the GT4 to have shorter gear ratios so the did it for GT3. Factory Part “OEM”.
Let's be honest. The typical person who can COMFORTABLY afford a GT3 isn't really bothered by the price increase at all. Porsche understands this very well.
Almost fully agree with Misha, but regarding price increase, I have to defend Porsche (factory) - Dealers in USA and GB increased prices a lot for the allocations. Porsche said: now we earn that money, not the greedy dealers 😐
That is one ginormous increase in price from 992.1 compared to 992.2. And I thought the increase on a 911 T from one year to the next was huge. Apparently not compared to this. Sheesh.
TBH I've had enough of all OEMS charging a lot more for their cars and then also increasing the APR of finance whilst also maintaining the same residuals of models is absurd and greedy.
Misha is spot on... The problem is the devaluation of the previous versions, and thanks to this video 911.1 GT owners are thanking him... Hmm money saving by using RS / ST parts isn’t a bad thing! Wing profile is different. Suspension arms provide 40kg downforce at top speed etc. I still prefer the Touring changes for the road - everything on my wish list tbh. Remove 2 Cats and you have the RS output etc. road wins: shorter gearing to use rpm, suspension compliance, ICE.
Love my 991.2 I bought way back in May 2016. It still ticks all the boxes for me. The whole 992 line kind of left me cold. I love the downforce of the GT3 RS but really that is a track thing.
Here in Florida, we don't have any state vehicle inspection, and our Highway Patrol doesn't give a shit so we are free to remove our cats...i bet the new GT3 decatted would pull closer to 540 HP.
i do get what you mean many brand did this , Porsche did fall for the remaking the same thing , if they do that they improve the product over all but here, i was like meeh at the end, i did like it but the improvement index is minimalistic if not almost unexistant. i mean most brands do this but Porsche in every special edition they trend to include tech for future models, example ( 911 turbo s exclusive series using a similar powertrain as the actual 992 turbo s) and the examples you did mention but here i don't know it doesn't feel like the improve this model.
I dont understand feeling "disappointed". Its still a great car, and it HAS been improved in incremental ways. The sorter gearing for instance is a huge win from a small change. The backseats in the Touring variant really improves the livability. Not every refresh has to be a generational leap when the car is already so good.
I think all the updates are more in favour of the Touring: shorter gear ratio, more road compliant suspension set up, less nervous steering, folding buckets and rear seats. But is this is enough for an upgrade from a 992.1? Prices are to ambitious in my opinion.
Agreed. But at last, we still have GT3 in Europe. Without hybridation. It could be worse. We don't have GTR anynore, nor the cool Mustangs or Canaros, we have now a 2.5 ton M5, etc etc. But at least rich people still have options in sports car. Normal people... No more Renault RS, no more petrol Hyundai N, no more Opel OPC, no more Type R Honda after this quite expensive and very limited FL5, no more Focus RS, no more Focus ST (las units being sold now)... Cupras with 150 bhp eveywhere with the same look as the 300... If you don't like Golf GTI (which is also a lot of money)... you are left wirh a Cupra Leon wich looks worse than the previous gen, a Yaris GR if you can get one and want to pat 50k+ for it... and mayybe a Mini Cooper S, not exactly cheap either. Nothing else. I really miss the years of the Celica, Hyundai Coupe, Honda Integra and several Civics, RX8 for the rare, cheap MX5s, Clios RS and meganes RS each faster than before, sveral GSi abd OPCs, ST, RS, etc.
The GT3 is projected to be $300-400k USD due to additional dealer markup and options. Just crazy. Additionally, that's going to drive used prices for the older GT3 cars up again. :(
Agree with your comments on the 992.2 GT3. The car weight was not mentioned. I believe this car is heavier too. So less torque and more weight. For the Touring you can add back seats. Not sure what for though. If you want a car for 4 then go for a GTS, right? And then the price….
I know for one thing is that Matt Farrah and Zac from The Smoking Tire TH-cam channel are going to LOVE the shorter gear ratios in the GT3 because he's been always complaining about the tall gear ratios when driving in the canyons at Malibu where he could only use 2nd and 3rd everywhere.
Thank you for stating the glaring obvious, something other auto journalists won't do to maintain their cozy relationship. The biggest improvement in the 992.2? The headrest!
No, I agree!!! that's pretty ineresting how they just "undercut" the 911 ST's value by offering the 992.2 with a manual transmission. Like if I spent money on an ST last year I'd be pretty upset.
It's always been available with manual gearbox both gt3 and touring? The lower final drive will be to mitigate a potential slight torque drop. It won't get the S/Ts light flywheel
I think it;s important to note as these cars get faster and faster, it becomes harder and harder to improve them. The 992.2 marks the beginning of that where the design is already so fast, that is hard to improve the package without doing some drastic, which would then turn it into a 3RS.
Btw. a digital screen, in high definition doesn’t save you any cost. Those switches the industry uses are cheap, a lot cheaper than a screen like that. Also, another big thing about screens is, you can always update the software etc. to keep it up to date and change stuff without any physical change on the dash board, means more changes and updates frequently, not just every whatever years. And tbh. for a car in this price range, it’s time to change to something more modern! Not even mentioning, that so many buyers never tracking theirs anyway and just drive around on Sundays 😅
The 992 GT3 RS was such an upgrade and so much work went into it. Then the release of the S/T as the ultimate drivers car. Then the new GTS model with the new engine. Feels like the GT3 was a bit ignored. The +2 is probably the main advantage with the rear engine over mid engine so a smart choice to give the Touring the possibility.
4.2L doesn't look like it will come close to passing Euro 7 (even with 6 CATS lol)... 992.2 3RS is going to inform the direction of the next GT3. My $ is on a T-hybrid setup for RS as it is undoubtably quicker. ICE purists - .2 Touring

Yeah. This engine makes 20-30 hp more than the old one, but it's choked back to the power it had.
Yeah, you really can't have much fun at a continuous Lambda 1. Modern combustion engines will all just be glorified vacuum cleaners from now on.

When a company starts launching great products somehow someone at the top changes to a greedy MF that will ruin their best product.
This sounds about right. "Hey we have a good product we can probably get away with charging more for it or cheapening out on x"

I agree...at least they should put the 525hp rs engine for this new 992.2

You mean the 900bhp engine from the 499p LeMans winning race car?
@v4skunk739 yes. That it is also used in a race series makes no difference. A v6 from the baby ferrari isn't what people wanted. Hence the cope
Ajjj
I have a strange feeling with the aftermarket the 992.2 might be a better platform because it has better cams, reworked intake that is supposedly better, shorter gear ratio ect. Then again I'm in the US where OPF delete and secondary cat delete won't trigger a violation as long as the primary cat and o2's are still there.

Without all the hoop jumping and £10k under the then current RRP. I`m happy it`s not radically different, doesn`t want me to get into to the .2 for all that extra cash
Since then more tech and the cars are following Eu regulations which are make them boriing and heavier.
hmm, my 2022 GR Yaris and 2021 Exige 420 does not agree with that statement

The .2 is a big improvement for the touring. The wing car is just subtle refinements to keep it in line with the .2 Carrera updates and they are fighting the emission regulations to stay at the same hp level. I think the 992.1 was the peak for GT3. We may never see big improvements again.
4cats, 2opf’s… that’s just utterly sad 😶
Amen!
Btw. the anthopogene climate change is another propaganda lie.

i can understand why Porsche hasn't changed anything much, because so many people are always complaining about how the new model is shit, but in reality some people need a lot of time to get used to the new things and then after a few weeks or months they like it, But that's all just an illusion because the manufacturers always change so much from the older model that we immediately say it doesn't look good

I don't know how old you are, or why do you have such delusions like this, but you among other people desperately need a reality check, no offense, JUST saying.
Your opinion is true and correct,
But I will add mine if we will see it from Porsche perspective,
first is the power, its pretty clear due to the emissions the power or the torque will go down little bit , the solution is shorter gear ratios, from our experiment the ST,
then for stock application it will feel faster due to shorter ratios, then for the emission, let us say that not small number of the costumers who use them cars on the track will remove some of the emission to higher flow cats and our mission to pass emission has been done, for the ppl who will put high flow cats the will feel the difference due to the camshaft from the RS, with this tuning this platform will put easy 30+ hp, then the control arms if the are RS then the normal GT3 did share fantastic parts in smaller car and size!
Buy a nicely optioned 992.1 GT3 or GT3 RS, save a few bucks to use on upgrades.
Let's be honest. The typical person who can COMFORTABLY afford a GT3 isn't really bothered by the price increase at all. Porsche understands this very well.
Blame it on the Rennsport fiasco.
Almost fully agree with Misha, but regarding price increase, I have to defend Porsche (factory) - Dealers in USA and GB increased prices a lot for the allocations. Porsche said: now we earn that money, not the greedy dealers 😐
The dealers will still jack up the price. The consumer loses.
I suspect a majority of the 992.2 budget was keeping the engine above 500hp while meeting new emissions standards.
That is one ginormous increase in price from 992.1 compared to 992.2. And I thought the increase on a 911 T from one year to the next was huge. Apparently not compared to this. Sheesh.
Think the car is to plain for the extra cost and the extra mods don't improve the performance 🤔 well said micha
TBH I've had enough of all OEMS charging a lot more for their cars and then also increasing the APR of finance whilst also maintaining the same residuals of models is absurd and greedy.
Stalantis is the main culprit for doing just that, as well as purposely running the brands into the ground

It's always been available with manual gearbox both gt3 and touring? The lower final drive will be to mitigate a potential slight torque drop. It won't get the S/Ts light flywheel
Porsche did the same thing with the 991.1 R and the following 991.2 Touring. Prices on the R are still high.
