The Vive is the size of a box goggle. You can get a 1080 box goggle for $100. Micro displays such as used in Fat Sharks are expensive. Especially in small quantities like Fat Shark had to buy. The entire FPV industry is in the single digit hundreds of thousands.

I am from Germany and last year, after almost a year of flying, the regulator on my FS HD3 broke. I sent it in (to the UK), they fixed it _and_ added the mod for more amps in the bay without charging extra. I got it back after two weeks and since then, it works fine with the rapidfire module and the head-tracker. So my experiences are not too bad ;)
Nice. I've been looking at the EV200ds or the HDOs but these are tempting. Tell me how you like the EV200d's. How is the fan? is it annoying like people have said? Have you tried HDMI from a PC? Does 1080 HDMI work? Does HDCP work or no?

I’ve had a faulty barrel connector on my HD3s for over a year now. I’ve hunted for a new power board to no avail but I never thought of going directly to fatshark. Thanks JB!
640 X 400 is the old 16:10 screen ratio. It was used for the first widescreen computer monitors. One of the reasons for this ratio is they assumed people wanted room for the play bar to be in screen at all times, and most players wouldn't hide the play par at the time.they kept it around for 4-5 years until they just went 16:9 as the standard for all screens. Why they brought it back for this is weird.
FS probably got a super-discount deal on a truckload of weird-aspect-ratio OLED's and thought "hey, let's slap them in a really old design, give 'em a new color scheme, and call it innovation"...! I know FS has the good CS reputation, but c'mon, they updated them to OLEDs and STILL couldn't be bothered with a simple power switch, and direct-wiring the fan? Thought that's probably because then it would really highlight these same shortcomings in their $500 goggles! I'm surprised by their complacency in the face of the new competition in this price range... If Eachine had halfway decent CS, it'd be EV200D all the way.
It sounds like more an attempt to do not loose much market share instead of a real evolution of FPV Goggles! But let's be honest, in 2019 we could expect far away more from Fatshark since "apparently" they are the best FPV Goggles manufacturer on dying Earth...
The main thing that makes these goggles a homerun for me, $299 for the super nice OLED display! I also prefer the attitude line for its shape and comfort on my face.

Exactly what I was thinking - I'd like to see how these fatsharks and the new Skyzone's compare to the Falcons. Seems the Falcons went off the radar for some reason, but last time I asked the manufacturer, they were asking just 235 dollars plus 25 dollars shipping.

Sorry, But I couldn't praise Aomways customer service any more.I had bought my V1's and had them a month. Like an idiot, I left them plugged in when I put them in my case and in my bag. The right LCD had got spots in it. I hit up Aomway, and explained that I had broken it, and if there was anyway they could sell me the LCD module only. They sold me the LCD for ~40-50 bucks shipped. No questions about my ability to install it or anything. Honestly, could you imagine going to Apple and asking them for a new screen, but you would install it yourself? Such a good look for them and the whole right to repair movement. The ability to buy OEM parts from manufacturers is sooo cool.
This is a fantastic story and I would love to know that there were lots more of them. If Aomway is living up to expectations, that would be amazing. For what it's worth, Fat Shark will also sell you parts if you prefer.
@@JoshuaBardwell I've had several issues with my Aomway Commander V1 throughout a year of use and never even once got a reply from their customer service.

Do RC I've had the same pair of box goggles for 40 months now. They never miss a beat and cost me a fraction of these budget goggles. True diversity module too. I won't be buying new ones til these break..... They could last me a few years yet. Best return ever.
Do RC Hahaha, do any goggles look cool? At the end of the day, anyone not involved in the hobby looks at us like we are oddballs intent on bringing down planes and destroying the worlds infrastructure. @@SuperBradley79 yeah. Plus any money invested these days might be a waste as we probably won't be allowed to fly at all soon. Which is a bummer because I have an illness that keeps me from getting out much and flying fpv gives me a sense of freedom....
Do RC I'm thankful that I live in the middle of nowhere. The few people who live nearby are farmers and don't mind me flying at all. In fact they have even apologised to me for putting their cows in their fields, and have offered me other places to fly. Fingers crossed that we will always have options to fly somehow and somewhere. There is nothing quite like the freedom of flying fpv.
Still got my V4's never wanted to upgrade. Got em at a killer price. $200 used with inductrix fpv pro. Best purchase I've made and got a free inductrix with em. Since then I bought a tru-d module and a couple good antennas and haven't wanted anything better. I think these guys with $600 to drop on every new set of goggles are spoiled brats.
I recently (April) bought HD3 Core. Adding an Eachine Pro58X module, a pair of decent antennae and a pair of 18650s took me to around £360. In the UK, Attitude V5s will be £290 by the time the 18650s are added. I don't have buyers remorse (I get a bigger picture) but I am already recommending these V5s to people just getting into FPV. They seem to be a sweet spot for price/support/quality and very handy if you don't know what module/antennae to choose. If I was buying right now, I'd grab these for sure.
I got mine yesterday, flew my first packs with them today. And yeah I'm only coming from a pair of attitude V2, that I got used when I first started flying. But I love them, for a weekend pilot like me, these are spot on. And even though it has a small aspect ratio and FOV than i've gotten used to, the picture actually looks bigger, maybe due to having a clearer picture. 👍👍👍
Il still probably still choose a skyzone02x lol I love my sky02's it checks all the boxes for me... i swear the receiver is even on par with good fatshark module

Hi Joshua, Many thanks for the thorough review. I very much appreciated the point you made on the analogue to digital video signal conversion. The comparison of the in-goggle screen was a perfect argument. This said, it would be great to do the same with other goggles on the same price range. Indeed eventually we all want to see more at the best price possible. BTW the test pilot on UAV future also complained of blurry edges and preferred the skyzones... Thanks again!
Great review! Lot’s of great technical information but also focusing on what the normal user is looking for and wants to pay. You have a great way of explaining things, it’s fun to listen to you. Sticking with my Fatshark Dom V3’s for now though...
Hi, where can I get that t-shirt? Outstanding content BTW. I've watched a number of your videos and always learn something... usually several somethings. I have a channel that is mostly focused on RC planes and to a larger degree, RC gliders. Nothing on your level of volume though. An encounter with drunk driver left me disabled, so I started my channel to have a creative outlet.
@@CopterPirates I know. My point is that if the screens are 16:10 and they say it's 4:3 they either stretch the image to fit the screens or they pillar box the image. Either way the they aren't 4:3 or 16:9 goggles by the screen specs. Or the screen specs are wrong...
Great review. But i cannot confirm your view about the "annoying" handling of the Goggle Lipos. At least the HDO lipo has a microUSB charging port.... so you can even charge this lipo in your car while driving to the next spot... so this is pretty comfortable i think... plus you can charge any lipo way faster than a 18650 battery.
@@JoshuaBardwell Prepair yourself before you go fly. This helps to avoid problems about charging the goggle battery during your trip. And you can charge this battery also on a regular Lipo charger. That is by far quicker than 18650 batteries... And if we talk about throwing things away... we should all change the hobby... we throw broken props, motors, frames, burned ESCs, dead flight lipos etc. the whole time... i think in this case we should not talk about one battery case after 2 years of using it...
Totally correct about support! Most Chinese FPV companies have little or no customer support, however in some cases that's by design to keep cost down. However it doesn't help you one bit if your shit breaks
I fly 16:9 FXT Vipers right now and want a fatshark style goggle for easier transport but the fake 4:3 aspect ratio is a dealbreaker for me. If it was actually 4:3 then I would be down with converting but the shorter screen takes out any advantage that 4:3 has.
Sky03O OLED is it for now. I bought the Orqa and rapidfire and it was over 800. I hope it is top notch because the Sky03O OLED are nice but no external RX. I love the front camera .Just push a button and you can see in front of you. Orqa please put a camera in the front. I can see this being a useful tool.
This is a brilliant product I think. I agree, the module and antennas is more important! I am in love with my HDO, but the FOV is at the limit for my anatomy. I have HPHD also, with the crazy 72 degrees, but that is only good for cruising with a plane or something, also has focus issues for presbyopics. 30 FOV degrees is fine, I flew at 32 degrees for like 7 years. BTW I do not miss the power button I had on my old Boscam goggles - bah
Thank you again! Helping someone get into fpv and I’m sure he’s going to want to buy my V3’s. I’m liking this review a lot. Now must convince the wife!
Aomways customer support has been great. I have been using the v1 since I started flying fpv a year or so ago. A week ago i overtightened a pagoda and broke the sma off. I had a look inside and saw that the sma was connected to a little board. I contacted their engineering team and they replied 2 days later with an offer of 14 dollars for shipping and a new module. I payed them, tomorrow Ill ask if it has gone through and if they have processed the replacement already. Tldr: Aomways customer service is kind of slow but good.
Joshua have you actually had personal experience with aomway support? They replaced set for me after I burned the screen.. Stupid sun... 6 months later and even sent a shipping box to send back the old one return shipping paid.
Just going to say that Fatshark is a really good quality brand and you probably won't have to deal with warranty, but it is nice it is there. I still fly my original Attitude V2's and have not had any problems, I did recently put a Diversity receiver in, but definitely will keep Fatshark as my brand!
you are 100% correct about SERVICE ! 100% ! I am REALLY hoping the ORQA is working on service plans ...forget about price ORQA is helping to drive the goggle industry and I will personally be excited to get one ASAP to add to my quiver.
I hope you are right on this because I was just about to buy the Commander V1S but the images of the OLED you provide are quite compelling. In Canada we are looking at $400 clam shells for the pleasure. I know that I am tired of messing with my Quanum nonsense even with the 5" 800x 480 upgrade. It is on its way to the E-waste stream
I fly the topsky f7x with an AKK diversity module ($30). Would these new fatshark goggles make my fpv experience that much more impressive, or am I looking at a small change for the upgrade? I have never had the opportunity to use any other goggles, so I honestly do not know what I would be getting into besides watching your reviews.
The image quality of the attitude v5 will be better than the F7X. The build quality much better. However the screen will be smaller and that may be quite disappointing to you.
I contacted Fatshart about the $20 POS LiPo battery that came with the $500 HDO goggles I bought. The response was "send it in". Yes, that's right. My 45 day old battery that was charged and used just 8 times. They wanted me to spend $10 to send them their POS battery so that they could spend shipping to send it back to me. I even made them a video of the issue, and they didn't care. So instead of wasting $10 on postage, I just bought the 18650 case for $20 and use the quality cells I already have laying around. I'd love to agree with you that Fatshark has this super mega awesome support, but that's not been my experience. Maybe they're better than the rest, but... You're right about these though. For the price, they are a great deal considering they are ready to fly out of the box.
Ricky - can you PM me with the contact e-mail you used? That situation sucks and I want to figure out how we can improve the issue for others in the future
Hi Joshua, I had experience with Skyzone support and they were very kind when I had problems with the DVR card. They sent me a new DVR card within a few weeks without asking for a single penny. I was very satisfied and I also consider Skyzone a great product considering their price.
Hello friend Bardwell, I would like your opnion I am to buy my first glasses and I would like your opinion and of the incritos what should I buy (fatshark attitude v5, Eachine Ev200 or Skyzone SKY02X all in the range of $ 300). Yours sincerely, Argona
I'm thinking about getting these after using the ev800 for almost an entire year. How much difference in the FOV is there between 30 on the Fatsharks and allegedly 140 on the ev800? Can it even be compared since they are box goggles?
640 x 400 would make these exactly 16:10 aspect ratio (width = height * 1.6) which is a lot closer to 16:9 (width = height * 1.77) than 4:3 (width = height * 1,33).
That is assuming the pixels are square like on most displays, it's not impossible for pixels to be stretched. It's hard to tell from your recording of the screens but they seem to be somewhere in the ballpark of width = height * 1.5 or 3:2 aspect ratio which is actually closer to 4:3... I guess the only reasonable thing left to do is disassemble them and measure the actual displays :)
@@FilipRadelic I stand corrected! It appears it is 640x400. I'm not too proud to admit I'm wrong! Well, very similar: a nice in between size that we all wish would come back on lcd's.
Fat shark is finally getting their shit together, they’re actually catering for those of us who don’t have big budgets to play with. Maybe if I have a failure with my skyzone v02 goggles, if I break them somehow, then I would consider getting these or the new skyzone v02 x or 02c goggles. It’s a tough decision either way , though I suspect I would go for these new fat shark’s, just wish they had some more colourful skins, maybe they might listen to their customers and bring out some more choice of colours in the future. Good on fat for bringing out some decent quality items at an affordable price. Good review Joshua, concisely to the point, especially with your comments about customer support. They’re going to sell a lot of these I suspect.
Just got me 2 pairs of the V5. My sons works fine but I’m disappointed on my set, the image is blurry. OSD text is hard to get focused. Camera view, can not get it clear at all. Let’s see if it was worth going for FS based on their support. My sky02’s will still do the job..
Interesting bringing up the ev200D into the equation. I've always wondered if diopters would help just for the sake of shrinking the fov to get less blurry edges.. since i find the massive fov a little too much anyway. Or would i not be able to get the screens into focus since i dont have a perscription/glasses?
It's 3:2. You are close though. 16:10 was a very loved screen size for those of us with big LCD monitors back in the day but it's sadly basically dead. The hype now being ultra wides (which I can't fairly judge as I haven't tried them for any long period of time). 3:2 is the standard photograph aspect ratio and is very pleasing. Unfortunately it's not the fpv cam sensor ratios!
@@georgejorgenson7347 Yup, basically means it will work for both 4:3 and 16:9 for both images will have some form of morphing to fit, either stretching or squishing a tad.
i use the 800ds for a year now, unlike most im far sighted with stig, right now i wear contacts when i fly my 00s, no complaints. My question is the FOV, i dont know how + script will look. I will have to get custom lenses made. what is your opinion on a 30 fov and + scripts? no one flys around here for me to test.
dom v3: 800x480 pix (~16x9.6), 30fov att v5: 640x400 pix (~16x10), 30fov pretty close aspect ratio, so the att v5s are probably best suited to a 16:9 cam (e.g. RC micro eagle, Foxeer monster micro pro or mini pro v3).

Aomway customer service is great
I am from Germany and last year, after almost a year of flying, the regulator on my FS HD3 broke. I sent it in (to the UK), they fixed it _and_ added the mod for more amps in the bay without charging extra. I got it back after two weeks and since then, it works fine with the rapidfire module and the head-tracker.
So my experiences are not too bad ;)
Nobody mentions the EV200Ds. Less than $300 and much much better. Put a fat shark sticker on them lol
Ev200d all day. I removed 1 module, and fly a pepperbox and antenna and that gets me about 4 miles of clean video. More than I'll ever need for my 7"
Nice. I've been looking at the EV200ds or the HDOs but these are tempting. Tell me how you like the EV200d's. How is the fan? is it annoying like people have said? Have you tried HDMI from a PC? Does 1080 HDMI work? Does HDCP work or no?
I had the attitude v4 googles and I loved them I am getting back into fpv flying so now I am looking at these v5 ones thanks josh I have always trusted your input
18650s? **Buy a 18650 battery sled -->parallel wire it, hot glue it together, put a xt-60 plug on --> smart charge at a higher rate :))) AND/OR...Build a lil handy batt module. Buy an ol'school DC-DC buck stepdown converter-->adjust to the goggle voltage on the exit side, glue it, direct solder xt-60 plug to the in, direct solder old goggle style plug to out, put a big heat shrink over and backfill with hot glue to seal it all/waterproof->reuse any expiring/3s/4s batt that isn't flyable or spent batt in the field.

I'm looking at a used set of these as a first set of fpv goggles. Your reviews are as impartial as ever and has given me the confidence to proceed with my purchase.
Keep on doing what you are doing Josh, you are without question the best at what you do!
I got these goggles last year. Was my first pair as well. I actually just got around to start using them recently. Only problem I'm having is the omni antenna pulls the receiver loose.

Mine was well out of warranty and received a very reasonable offer for me to send in for repair, I chose to have the parts I needed sent to me and I installed to fix my Commanders.
@@cheshirerc this was my only reply i got back from them after using it for 3 months, +- 100 flights:
As we know, each product has its own life span. After months of using, the product has greater possibility to get damaged. For this product, because the time is over one month, it is no longer under warranty. We are sorry for this situation.
For the defective product, we suggest you to repair the product or buy a replacement in local store.
This was in december 2017. Maybe things are better now. But i wasted alot of money on those goggles. It was a very expensive start in the hobby for me.
After this i sold it for half the price and bought me some fatsharks.

Love ya Joshua, Thanks for the video, I'm sold, and the customer support is a huge part of that. Thanks again my FPV bloodbrother.
Looks AWESOME! I’m still rocking some Ev800’s
Hattash Fpv me too
I’ve contacted Fatshark repair centre 2+ years after I bought my goggles and they still repaired them under warranty, this is why I like Fatshark.
16:10 is still common aspect ratio in computer screens, I have one. I think it's more common in displays meant for office use.
Joshua did you notice latency on the V1S I could not confirm it yet through testing but I swear I felt latency at times.
It sounds like more an attempt to do not loose much market share instead of a real evolution of FPV Goggles!
But let's be honest, in 2019 we could expect far away more from Fatshark since "apparently" they are the best FPV Goggles manufacturer on dying Earth...

That has been exactly my point not only with Fatshark but with any FPV eyewear manufacturer. Se my long comment above.

The main thing that makes these goggles a homerun for me, $299 for the super nice OLED display! I also prefer the attitude line for its shape and comfort on my face.
Everyone forgets about the Falcons. They even updated the main issue people had.
Just got a pair of the fg02 from Amazon prime with next day delivery and a 12 month warranty for a great price. I think people forget about them because they don't sell through banggood/gearbest.
@@Rich-TeaFPV I did not even know they exist and i like the fg01 a lot. But for 50 bucks more and included module + antennas the fatsharks seem better value.

Exactly what I was thinking - I'd like to see how these fatsharks and the new Skyzone's compare to the Falcons. Seems the Falcons went off the radar for some reason, but last time I asked the manufacturer, they were asking just 235 dollars plus 25 dollars shipping.

These came out at the perfect time for me.. a reasonable priced Fatsharks that fit my budget
My guess is these use the Sony nhd+ micro oled displays. They come in that weird resolution which would explain it.
yep the ones from 2015 i guess
Fatshark say that these goggles have 4:3 screen but resolution they give is 16:10 resolution.
wasn't so hard to figure out lol, JB had a brain fart moment i guess haha

PAL has up to 625 lines per image (not all is used on top/bottom). How is a vertical resolution of 400 lines good in the OLED? The vertical resolution will be downscaled, and so will the horizontal "resolution"
They dont care, they only care about NTSC.....I agree.
Fat Shark definitely cares about pal. They do all their internal q/c using pal feeds. I'm not saying 400 is ideal, just that it gets the job done.
@@EnglishTurbines Even NTSC has more than 400 lines
PAL and NTSC are interlaced... Each "image" as you say only has half the vertical resolution so 400 lines still is more than needed...
@@mougnette If there was correct deinterlacing, you would still need the full vertical resolution, otherwise lines will jump up and down a row.

@@SuperBradley79 yeah. My ev800d goggles have been awesome. Honestly I think a lot of people don't use them because they aren't "cool".
Do RC Hahaha, do any goggles look cool? All the money I save from not buying the "latest and greatest" goggles gets invested in beer and pizza!
So... For all the attitude lovers... This is amazing!
I have glasses and i can see good up close but not good far away. Do I need to get diopters to see clearly with my fatsharks? Thanks.
Yes. The focal distance of the Fat Sharks is about 6'.
Get some personalised lenses from Fischer Optik or RHO Lenses. They are worth their money!
I preordered attitude V6 and would love to here a review. Since fat shark sent you a pair.
Well I just bought the EV200Ds, damn it
I love the big 16:9 screen tho, after you manage to adjust the ipd the experience is awesome

I ordered the Skyzones & I'm happy with the choice, hopefully support isn't an issue.
Agreed... And Skyzones V02+ have already proven to be VERY reliable amongst most user. If the biggest argument is customer support for Fats, that's not good enough IMO. Let the Fat V5 prove themselves worthy by actual users.

Hi Joshua,
Many thanks for the thorough review.
600 x 400 is 3:2 aspect ratio, I would think.
Yes. But aren't these supposed to be 640x400?
isn't 640*400 a 16:10 aspect ratio
@@TheCombatFighter it is, but @John Steinholm was thinking it is 600x400 while it is 640x400 in reality.
@@CopterPirates I know. My point is that if the screens are 16:10 and they say it's 4:3 they either stretch the image to fit the screens or they pillar box the image. Either way the they aren't 4:3 or 16:9 goggles by the screen specs. Or the screen specs are wrong...
@@TheCombatFighter absolutely, i understood that. What i don't really understand is why fatshark is stating this obvious false information.
Great review! Really blown away by the clarity difference in the images.
That is clever, but it is slow as crap to charge, and after the pack wears out then what? You have to throw out the case too.
Thanks for the honest review. It’s awesome there are so many choices now in this price range.
It's 3:2, I'm guessing the screens come from camera viewfinders.

Great video JB. Whats your opinion regarding the Fat Shark Box goggles coming in at around 199.00?
How do you think the receiver module in the attitude v5 compares to other diversity modules? i.e. rapidfire?
Just going to say that Fatshark is a really good quality brand and you probably won't have to deal with warranty, but it is nice it is there.

IMO the breakdown is like this: www.patreon.com/posts/fat-shark-v5-and-27606846
I fly the topsky f7x with an AKK diversity module ($30).
Hey Joshua, will you be doing a review on the Fatshark Scouts?

Better than ev200d?
I just bought them, it seems there is a power button at the bottom of the googles. Also the aspect ratio of them is 16:10
640 x 400 would make these exactly 16:10 aspect ratio (width = height * 1.6) which is a lot closer to 16:9 (width = height * 1.77) than 4:3 (width = height * 1,33).
It's advertised as 600x400 not 640 though. So it's 3/2. Unless they are lying or we are confused. It's damn close to 16:10 though.

Some people run -2 diopter for this reason.
Hey Josh, the Attitude v5 are a 16:10 effective screen ratio.
I will have to get custom lenses made. what is your opinion on a 30 fov and + scripts? no one flys around here for me to test.
dom v3: 800x480 pix (~16x9.6), 30fov
att v5: 640x400 pix (~16x10), 30fov
pretty close aspect ratio, so the att v5s are probably best suited to a 16:9 cam (e.g. RC micro eagle, Foxeer monster micro pro or mini pro v3).
What are hd3
