    +Jöhännes Sigiward Fechter First of all even if I find the nature of your comment a bit aggressive I still thank you for your time watching the video and writing.
    The video you see is one of my first videos, so that's over a year ago when I still didn't know where I wanted to go with my channel. If you see my other videos now you will appreciate I have completely stopped trying to talk to people about any techinique and I talk about gaming and history and although I do not consider myself an historian as I am not (I'm a linguist) my history videos come from my university studies and though not perfect I'd say most informations on those are correct, so it's not just a gaming channel.
    For the humiliation part I feel none, and I leave these videos out simply to show people my trueself, I don't want to happear as a person I am not, I am human I make mistakes and I leave those mistakes on the internet for people to see that what I offer on my channel is not a false mask but a real me.
    So you are right, I am a beginner, I wish I could learn HEMA in a proper class but unfortunatly there is no school in my city and the closest place is in a nother region so I can't do it at the moment, so no more videos like this on my channel.
    I have received training in Kendo and fencing and I will stick to those for now, as you say I will wait to reach a certain understanding of the art before talking about it.
    My idea in this video though was not to educate, it was just my exitement which led me to want to share (wrongly) something interesting and fun with the community.
    By your writing I imagine you know quite a lot about the subject. If you do find the time I would appreciate your opinion on my video about Fiore dei Liberi. In that video I haven't spoken about techniques as you rightly suggest but I only used history and language.
    Metatron

    As a kid, i've always wanted to grow up wielding a blade... i just find it all so fascinating. Very beautiful blades, you have there :] very interesting stances, as well. Nice video!

    I actually really enjoyed this video. I'm not expert enough to have any advanced opinions on the subject, but I find nothing wrong with what you said...

    I am imagining a really wicked approach where a knight would wield a longsword in large slow swings as if it was an absolute brick of a sword, and then once the enemy tries to land a quick blow in-between swings, the knight grabs the blade and shows how quickly he truly can do a stab, and while dodging.
    This might also be a feasible deception of a weaker opponent to make the enemy overconfident.

    Really awesome description of the knight holding their blades! I recall seeing that but somewhere before on a mozaik.

    Half-swording can also be done with bare hands. watch Skallagrim's videos about the subject.

    • @metatronyt
      @metatronyt  9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I did and yes it can be done, I still think it depends on the sword though. Normally swords wouldn't be sharp all the way (or not to the same degree), so that helps, but still it's a subject that needs further examination, I don't think it's as simple as it looks, but that's just my personal opinion ofcourse. ;)

    • @Thorolfzach
      @Thorolfzach 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Metatron It is as simple as it looks. Well holding the blade and hitting things is anyways, properly fighting while half swording would be a different fighting skill to learn. Tried it out with a sharp blade right after watching Skallagrim's video and it really is just that easy. The blade I used for it has cut me pretty well once when it fell out of its sheath. I used that blade for cutting practice plenty of times as well so it is definitely sharp.

      Mark Anthony Yamaguchi Yes I have :D you know, after it was all over all the elves were like "what shall we do with the Sword" and Aragorn said "let's give it to the Metatron, he'll make videos about it!" and so it was decided ^___^ :D xD

    It would be nice to know which of your videos this one follows, unless your goal is to make the viewers watch as many of your videos as possible, or even all, if there in fact is no previous video :p

  • @mattmanbrownbro
    @mattmanbrownbro 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I would be careful taking advice from this video. You seem to know what you are talking about, and have studied it, but lack the physical practice for it. Think of Ox and Plow more as a defense against a high and low diagonal cut, respectively. The basics are there, but you are trying to catch his blade on your crossguard. Another thing, in Tag (or Roof), mind your hinds. You don't want to stick them out as far as you did, or your enemy will have an easy target.
    Otherwise, I enjoyed your video. I especially liked your Anduril replica. What company made it?

    • @metatronyt
      @metatronyt  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your advise I shall make an effort to improve those points you mentioned.
      Yes as you said my long sword knowledge comes from books and manuscrips (differently from my Kendo and Fencing as I have practiced both with proper training).
      I have mentioned in one of my recent videos that I would like to find a HEMA club to practice as obviously that is a need for all who wish to learn long sword etc.
      Scholagladiatoria is a good channel for techniques, here you'll find mostly history languages and gaming :D
      I bought that sword a long time ago I don't remember where honestly but I see if my friend remembers ahah xD
      Thank you and keep watching and commenting my videos Matthew ;)

      +Metatron I wish that fencing schools in Auckland (largest city in New Zealand) were actually good, or else I would've kept going with it, lol. The instructors didn't instruct anyone but the senior students and left the beginners to our own devices after several months of practice, not returning to us for the larger part of the year. Worst part is that I was paired with a guy who was very impatient, and treated the foils like lightsabers and greatswords...

    Hi! That longsword you showed, the one you said was the largest you had (3:28 mark) are you able to remove the hilt? I'm looking to buy one of those.

    Hey Metatron, I have a question for you: Is there a historical guard stance where the blade is held parallel to your eye line with its tip pointed directly at your opponent?

    Hmm I have mixed feelings about your knowlegde.
    Well what bothers me MOST is that when you showed half swording that you claimed
    the sword would not cut through the armor of a knight grabing it because it is metal.
    Well the gauntlets and handpieces are leather - the inner "grabbing" side. You still wouldn't cut yourself.
    So just a few minor corrections.
    Have a nice day :)

      :P still training day and night parents dont allow me to use iron sword yet im not a full grown adult They say its not safe for me to use

    • @metatronyt
      @metatronyt  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      you could tell them to let you use a blunt one :D anyhow if it can make you feel better the romans and also medieval knights practiced with wooden swords for safety reasons during all their trainings , particularly the combat one. Same in Japanese kendo today you practice with the shinai (bamboo sword) then you start using bokuto (wooden one) but never in combat. They use katana only for cutting tests and kata. It is important to teach your body the moviments and correct grip with a safe non self threatning weapon before you move to metal.

    • @novaflamez8007
      @novaflamez8007 10 ปีที่แล้ว
