I was a huge Metallica fan in the '80s and '90s but Rust In Peace is by far the best album of the '90s. Still gives me shivers listening to those massive riffs and Marty Friedman solos.
Digitech DSP 1101 is discontinued IIUC, although I'm sure if Dave or Willy G get on the phone for parts/support it gets done. It's interesting that Dave goes with a very minimalist rig. Simplicity definitely is an advantage though.

(They eventually did it on the Countdown anniversary till this day), now I know what these guitars in D Standard in the background actually were... Thank you so much bro. But... It's weird they put footage of Dave playing while the Exodus tech was playing a riff, is it? XD
I'm surprised Dave is actually using the gsp1101 as his main pre amp tone. I have that unit and I can't get the pre amp models to work through my rig so I just use it for effects.

Dave has used .010 -.052 gauge strings, tuned to E standard (A440) for over 20 years. When the band dropped the tuning to D standard ( low D, G, C, F, A,D ), his gauge was bumped up a touch heavier, to .011-.054 but he returned to the .010-.052, still tuning it to D standard over the past year.
Yeah I used to use 10-52 for E for years because that's what he used to do, I guessed he liked them thick. He switched to 11-54 for D and now went back to 10-52 for D. I use that now too, low strings still pretty tight but high strings are really bendy. Teemu uses that aswell

I always presumed that Dave used US models but now after hearing Korean models are lighter I'm not surprised i had a dean once and it was quite heavy

That's just fine for tight riffs and relatively easy bends. The's what I'm using on 25.5" scale length guitars in standard tuning.
