I find Dave's commentary about that being their best lineup so far really like if he's just saying that to motivate the fans and his bandmembers, 'cause everybody fuckin' knows Dave-Marty-Dave-Nick was their best lineup ever, and as far as I'm concerned, it will be forever.
2009 : "Chris is by far the best guitar player Megadeth has ever had..." 2018: "Kiko is by far the best guitar player Megadeth has ever had..." Oh Dave......
"This is by far the best Megadeth line-up I think we've ever had" Dave, you should quit being a guitar player and become a comedian. IMO, the Marty Friedman and Nick Menza line-up will always be the best.
just PR excercise, if you ask him now, he'll tell you the actual line-up is the best ever. Friedman and Broderick are uncomparable; guess Broderick is much more technical than marty, but basically lacks of any creativity
i noticed that too lol. he tilts his head a little now and again. the most he moved was when he tried to demonstrate that floyd trick dave didnt like. hes a pretty chill dude
@sfh113 steve vai's signature dimarzio evolutions are actually really hot pickups so they can definitely pull off a metal tone. i'm a huge seymour duncan guy but the dimarzio d activators are probably something you should look into. they are supposed to be a mix of an active sound and a passive sound but they don't require a battery like other active pickups. if you want a full on active sound id say blackouts. they sound very full and the sound has more emphasis on the low end frequencies
3:29 What does a preamp actually do? Cause, amplifiers have a preamp and a power amp, yeah? And afaik, the preamp will create some distortion and toanz. But what about when someone has a separate, standalone preamp - does that go into the head of an amp? (Into *that* amp's preamp + power amp?). Or, does it replace/bypass the preamp that's in the amp? Or, do you have a standalone preamp and a standalone power amp? I'm sure it goes before an amp - that much I know - the clue's in the name!! I just don't know about the how/why...
@MOOGSTER66 i thought that too but there is a video of him explaining why he needed that change i dont remember the main reason i know one of the little reasons he said he has to change the tuning of the guitar himself a lot during shows and having the 6 in a row is easier but when he explains the main reason it makes a lot of since
@bigcatroberts it doesnt really, just a matter of person preference, tunings a bit faster if they are all on one side, opposed to then tuning 3 and flipping your hand around the head and twisting the opposite direction.
Chris' rig has changed a lot since this video. He is using an AxeFx into the Marshall power amps, he runs the Energyball model...which is an ENGL Powerball.
@guitarism21. you may think the old lineup is better. but mustaine said that the other guys had parts he didnt agree with and chris only had a quick tremelo thing he didnt agree with. not alot of stuff
I was at the show in Davenport! So awesome to not have to travel for a great show. But why did they have 16 amp heads on the stage if they're just running a preamp into a 100/100? They didn't even mention the 16 heads! Hey...
That is the coolest I have ever seen Dave Mustaine in an interview. Not hating on the guy, but he really seems to have finally excepted where he is in life. I always wondered why he was so angry. This is definitely a more mature Dave Mustaine in this interview.
I need help determining a new set of pickups for my Jackson.. I like to play metal and i like that high gain sound but i also really like the steve vai sort of sound too. Can someone suggest pickups for me please?
Yes, I know; & he's another one of my favorites as well. Marty's style is very exotic & free flowing, So I don't blame him for leaving...He resides in Japan now I believe:-)
@Guitarism21 I do sort of agree. That was the golden era of megadeth IMO. Although after seeing chris brodrick play, I have to say the guy is absolute class!
I'm sure that if Chris Broderick wanted to exit the legendary Megadeth, he could. Fact of the matter is, he joined a band that was established on Dave's work, Dave's sound, Dave's songs, like it or not. Chris is a world-class musician, but so is Dave. I'm sure Broderick can deal with an amp change. I played in a band that endorsed ENGL. However, the Soldano SLO is my amp of choice, and my sound. Would I play Marshall? No. Would I play Marshall if I were in Megadeth? Absolutely.
@jaydog664 when jackson was for sale dave wanted to buy it, then as dave was about to buy it they sold it to fender, that put dave off jackson so he wanted a change, he then changed from esp but because they were little girls about there designs being so close to jacksons, he left them for gibson and dean, dean however finished there prototype first and dave loved it and just forgot gibson and went straight to dean.
@hdrules108 no i wasnt but im saying there was obviously other stuff im not sure if bands could afford it get there hands on it or whatever but marshall wasnt the only amp brand out im not trying to fight and stuff man im just saying that there was more then marshall out
I love how honest Dave is about endorsements, like, "Endorsements are a minefield; I'm now just going to cover my ass like so..." Very NOT "rock 'n' roll," but again, the honesty of it is really refreshing! :S
@charlieshreds You are high if you think bands were using any of that stuff, especially in the early 80s. What American metal bands were actually using Engl and Carvin? Scorpions used Engl in late 80s. Even Metallica was using Mesa's WITH MARSHALL POWER AMPS and Marshall Cabs. Every band in the 80s was using Marshall amps on their early stuff because there wasn't anything else. Go look at the first records from Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Exodus, Testament, Anthrax, etc. List goes on...
i see what you mean, but i all also see Dave's point, it's true that a lot of musicians give very positive comments about their new lineup, but the last word goes to the audience/fans. and i agree with Dave, now they have a great line up, i sure as hell want Nick to be part of this new Megadeth, he's alive, he's active, he must be part of it, the rest of the line up is awesome.Ellefson is here, Broderick is da bomb.he has something in common with Friedman, both are advanced melodic shredders.
@howgoyoufar If you meant me, I really would never bash Dave. I know that Megadeth is his vision, and the other guys (as amazing as they are) are just along for his ideas because it is his band
I agree. I don't think people realize that Chris is very professional and has very little ego. He took a job he wanted knowing that he was joining an established band. With that comes following a certain status quo. He seems to be doing well and I don't think it's a huge compromise. I think the only people losing in this deal are Engl.
Everyone bashing on what Dave said about Chris' playing... He obviously knows Chris is better, he's said that in interviews. But Megadeth is Dave's band, if he wants a solo to sound a certain way he's going to make sure it does. Chris is an amazing player, but he's part of Megadeth...Dave IS megadeth.
@m0joGriffin I know what you mean - I'd be annoyed to be told what gear to use. But then if I was told "you can be in Megadeth, but use this amp..." well, I'd go with Megadeth ;)
Lol Dave's pretty much like... "Dude, I don't know what the hell all this stuff does, I just play them" XD
Hah signs of getting old... "don't care what it is as long as it sounds right!"
@@ironbeast6that’s always how hee’s been
"You can't get anymore legendary then being a legend" lol
Damn fuckin right.
Getcha pull
He actually gets to say that legitimately. It's just true lol
"I can't really play solos great"
-Dave Mustaine 2009
I find Dave's commentary about that being their best lineup so far really like if he's just saying that to motivate the fans and his bandmembers, 'cause everybody fuckin' knows Dave-Marty-Dave-Nick was their best lineup ever, and as far as I'm concerned, it will be forever.
"This is the best line-up Megadeth ever had" Correction - it reached the state of perfection when David Ellefson joined again.
Bet you regret that now lol
@@gavinmorgan8691 hahahahahaha
2009 : "Chris is by far the best guitar player Megadeth has ever had..."
2018: "Kiko is by far the best guitar player Megadeth has ever had..."
Oh Dave......
Well at the time Chris was the best
Than they got kiko and he's better
Add Marty, the other Chris, Jeff, etc😂😡
Marty: am I a joke to you?!?
"This is by far the best Megadeth line-up I think we've ever had" Dave, you should quit being a guitar player and become a comedian. IMO, the Marty Friedman and Nick Menza line-up will always be the best.
Noah Miller its out of either Broderick or Poland being megadeths best lead guitarist
You're entitled to your opinion, just like I'm entitled to mine lol. I think that Friedman or now Kiko is probably the best lineup they've had.
Marty was an awesome guitarist, some my favourite Megadeth albums are _Rust In Peace_, _Countdown to Extinction_ and _Youthanasia_
They're all "good" - some material is better than others . I really like the Freidman/Menza era but the first lineup kills too!
just PR excercise, if you ask him now, he'll tell you the actual line-up is the best ever. Friedman and Broderick are uncomparable; guess Broderick is much more technical than marty, but basically lacks of any creativity
"You can't get any more legendary than be being a legend."
As much as I love Dave, he is always so hard on his other guitarist. I guess he just wants everything perfect
Chris is awesome, thank you for the ENGL support!
He uses the Energyball model in his AxeFX into Marshall power amps so, in a way, he has gone back to using ENGL amps in Megadeth
Dave is a legend
@spuogis It was shot on 12/7/09 in Davenport, IA.
@DemantiaStudio no not any more, Dave uses his signature Marshall cabinates rigged up to the if i remember MG450FX pre-amp
I love how Dave wiped his hand off before shaking the guys hand, thats respect right there.
4:00 All those amps. One microphone. x)
Wonder how long it'll be until dave makes chris use DEAN guitars?
@Bart Lee I didn’t realise that 9 years ago. 🤣
@Bart Lee Yeah, don’t see Dave as a Gibson guy.
Great interview, wish the compression was better for the video. Maybe you all could re-compress it in with a better codec and repost.
i noticed that too lol. he tilts his head a little now and again. the most he moved was when he tried to demonstrate that floyd trick dave didnt like. hes a pretty chill dude

it's still rendering,it'll take time before it shows in HQ.
I like that tone from Endgame. Had no idea that was derived from a Digitech 1101.
endgame was recorded with JVMs and I think the Randy Rhoads model. Live is a different beast
5:46 Mustaine goes bully😂😂😂👍
@TheShepster80 Don't know if this will happen, now he has a Jackson Signature of his own.

They should've done another one of these for their _Dystopia_ tour and with their new guitarist
but Chris' RGA7 LACS have the ZR system, probably and old interview before his two LACS with the ZR
Hey Chris, post your settings on digitech sound community please!!!
@mr4y Yes I know that, but dave is making him use marshall amps live, the same ones he uses, to get that "Megadeth sound"
@guitarism21. you may think the old lineup is better. but mustaine said that the other guys had parts he didnt agree with and chris only had a quick tremelo thing he didnt agree with. not alot of stuff

lol when dave waves his hand over the interviewer, love that part so funny.
The bradshaw that dave used was a RSB - 12F Which i believe was also a rocktron.
They were still doing 480p in 2009? wow.
That is the coolest I have ever seen Dave Mustaine in an interview. Not hating on the guy, but he really seems to have finally excepted where he is in life. I always wondered why he was so angry. This is definitely a more mature Dave Mustaine in this interview.

@Jlpme218 when he was STARTING metallica last time i checked it was lars that started metallica
@EXPcustom no no , one time i saw a video where Mustaine had a signature line6
Does anyone know what trick Dave and Chris is talking about around 5:45?
Where are the JVMs, Dave?
He keeps using them for sutdio purposes
Yes, I know; & he's another one of my favorites as well. Marty's style is very exotic & free flowing, So I don't blame him for leaving...He resides in Japan now I believe:-)
My english is not good enough. What does Mustaine say about Night Ranger and Cacophony?
@Guitarism21 I do sort of agree. That was the golden era of megadeth IMO. Although after seeing chris brodrick play, I have to say the guy is absolute class!
@jaydog664 At one point Jackson got overtaken by the Fender Corp. Loads of Jackson players switched to ESP in result of this aciton.
@Guitarism21 IMO, now that Junior is back with the band, the marty nick 2xDave is the only lineup that beats the current one
So...like what amps do they use ? They showed a stock pic of some Marshall rack mount power amps ?
" Like night ranger cacophony damnit" !!!!
LOL
Dave and Chris are sick dudes man
A lot of what Dave says is very tongue in cheek. He doesn't take himself too seriously. Been a fan of his since he was in Metallica.
I'm sure that if Chris Broderick wanted to exit the legendary Megadeth, he could. lmao this aged well
He didn't title himself. The legend title was given to him for a reason.
@jersey1979 daves voice is like a fine wine....gets better as he gets older
@hdrules108 no i wasnt but im saying there was obviously other stuff im not sure if bands could afford it get there hands on it or whatever but marshall wasnt the only amp brand out im not trying to fight and stuff man im just saying that there was more then marshall out
WHAT ABOUT JUNIORS BASS RIG?
Check out Jackson Guitars page. He rundowns his bass amd amp
@Krzysmalaki74
EXACTLY. Chris is a hired hand....a damn fine one
@charlieshreds
I can tell by your comments that you weren't actually around in the 80's.
Very true brother
what did he mean about the FCC thing.
5:48 - Sounded like Chris got beaked!
Great band, and Endgame kicks ass!
Awesome now I can sound like dave!
sorry i thought Dave uses Line6 amp maybe i'm wrong
I love how honest Dave is about endorsements, like, "Endorsements are a minefield; I'm now just going to cover my ass like so..." Very NOT "rock 'n' roll," but again, the honesty of it is really refreshing! :S

@mr4y he talked about his rig.
@nintendoguy300 I don't think that was wrong at all, thinking about how Mustaine says he's the best guitar player megadeth has ever said
i see what you mean, but i all also see Dave's point, it's true that a lot of musicians give very positive comments about their new lineup, but the last word goes to the audience/fans. and i agree with Dave, now they have a great line up, i sure as hell want Nick to be part of this new Megadeth, he's alive, he's active, he must be part of it, the rest of the line up is awesome.Ellefson is here, Broderick is da bomb.he has something in common with Friedman, both are advanced melodic shredders.
amen brotha!
He wiped his hand so some of his "awesome" wouldn't contaminate the guy....
Look at Dave he is such a gentleman, he wipes the sweat off his hand before he shakes the hosts hand. Classy guy :)
Too much awesomeness in this video for me to handle :D
Met him at music live last year.. my mate asked him what it was like to sleep with Hammetts wife.. worlds most akward silence...
This is the best line up? The Dave, dave nick and marty combo was better than there current lineup in my opinion.
0:14 haha sweaty hands :)
Dave Mustaine, Shawn Drover, James LoMenzo and Chris Broderick - best Megadeth lineup ever.
Awesome!
@howgoyoufar If you meant me, I really would never bash Dave. I know that Megadeth is his vision, and the other guys (as amazing as they are) are just along for his ideas because it is his band

So you would rather have someone lie to you ? Rather than being straight forward with you and honest on how they feel and think.
5:46 Dave laugh is kickass!
@Lydian7lc totally agree
If you look at the video in the time thing (the grey line, whatever its called) Chris boderick stays still basically the entire time.
@snapascrew He was wiping the sweat off before he shook the interviewer's hand.
5:46 even daves laugh is metal haha
Everyone bashing on what Dave said about Chris' playing...
He obviously knows Chris is better, he's said that in interviews. But Megadeth is Dave's band, if he wants a solo to sound a certain way he's going to make sure it does. Chris is an amazing player, but he's part of Megadeth...Dave IS megadeth.
@mr4y dave made chris used the same rig.
what did he mean by "the FCC coming down on endorsements?"
lmfao why does Dave get all jittery when he shakes the guys hand in the beginning?
GreekGuru74 He wipes the sweat off his hand on his leg before he shakes his hand.
Hey man. I do the same thing
made matt heafy a 24 fret 7 string too
@nintendoguy300 dude hes kinda looking at him like that the whole time
@nintendoguy300 Megadeth is Dave Mustaine, anyone else plays guitar for Megadeth, not with Megadeth.
Mandolin strings in witchita
HAHA it cracked me up when Dave wiped his hand to shake his hand. It happens to me all the time
It was mandolin strings in Austin god damn it.
imagine someone in your band telling you want amp to use
@superjesus117 The lead guitarist says this exact same thing, Chris may be technically better but Marty's style is undeniable
i think this video is a little old
@m0joGriffin I know what you mean - I'd be annoyed to be told what gear to use. But then if I was told "you can be in Megadeth, but use this amp..." well, I'd go with Megadeth ;)
Basically it means to give the wammy bar a little tap.
@Pallietime Careful there. Chris might be a better educated musician but Dave is Megadeth.
