    It's interesting to see how one of the main "failures" is actually one of the few Umbrella-produced B.O.W.s that can be safely handled by people, assuming that they're caretakers that the Hunter Gammas are socialized with.

      @Purple Emerald Although ecology is a branch of biology, I intended "biological" to cover areas of science that are not always associated with medical science, but are frequently included in this channel. Like microbiology. Bacteria and other microorganisms do not have to fall under medical science, especially if they survive and reproduce outside the human body. Ecology on the other hand is rarely included on this channel, or at least the sub-branch of herpetology is. I understand your confusion though. I assumed context clues would be enough to get the message through to everyone, I suppose I was wrong.

    • @bradlyjordan5673
      @bradlyjordan5673 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Aconspiracyofravens1 Yeah, I totally get that. It's just weird that they even evolved them. I mean, some benthic macroinvertebrates have claws to hold onto substrate in swift currents, but other than that, claws a bit useless in an aquatic setting. Especially since the hunter doesn't even use them for combat as it needs both legs to support itself. I chalk it up to creative liberties from the game designers.

    • @bradlyjordan5673
      @bradlyjordan5673 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Purple Emerald Yeah, man, you're right. Ecology is a branch of biology. I just said "medical and biology" because some topics regularly discussed here aren't necessarily medical in nature, but still related to biology. Basically, what I meant when I said "biology" was "nonmedical biology regularly discussed on the channel," like microbiology. Ecology doesn't fit this as it's not regularly discussed here. I intended for context clues to make that obvious, but I can see where the confusion came in.

    The second mouth reminds me of a moray eel. The eels have a second "mouth" within their mouth. Its actually more of a tounge with teeth, like the Xenomorph from Alien. The way fish eat is by creating a vaccum within their mouths so when they open, it suckes in the prey. Moray eels however dont use this method, instead using their toothed tounges to pull the prey from the grasp of the main jaws further down the throat. Its very intresting to see and this reminded me heavily of it.

    @2:02 You missed that if shot in the legs, the Gammas would fall to the floor exposing their mandibles for attack. It's an easy way to kill them without having to get too close and opening their mandibles to eat you. A lot of people don't know this, which is surprising since it's right in the doctor's notes you mentioned.

      Year late, but honestly two-three shotgun blasts to the mouth is guaranteed kill anyway so why waste the ammo hitting the legs. It’s pretty easy to keep out of range of the mouth as the aforementioned shotgun blasts tend to stagger them so there’s not much risk involved

      The problem would be that they could only guard places that are in a big swamp or something. Kinda limits the market... which would be a good enough reason to stop spending money, time and manpower into making them.
      Plus if your client has to befriend them from birth, feed them and play with them so they don't kill your horribly, even fewer swamp-based Louisiana-French crime lords would be willing to bother I think...
      But they're cute, they remind me of the huge things the orcs from "the Ewoks 2" are riding/using as a beast of burden.

    • @randallflagg3700
      @randallflagg3700 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Lex Bright Raven - I agree, but like I said in my previous post, the fact that they can only guard bases located in swamps is a big problem, when other types of Hunters who can be stationed anywhere (including swamps) could be produced at a comparable cost.
      Plus, if you're a French crime lord with a mansion in the swamps, do you really want these monsters lurking around?
      Looks like they might attack you and your men as much as they'd hunt attackers/spies/escaped prisonners...
      Cool creatures, but I still prefer their original RE3 design. Cute buggers.

To quote Quora "So all you'd need to store every PS1 game ever made (7,918 software titles released for the platform worldwide) is a little over 5 terabytes, which you can buy from Amazon for about a hundred dollars." I actually agree with whatever scientist his these guys away- Gammas had untapped potential. Not as a main B.O.W. but as both a way to take down stragglers and clean-up after. While fire would be hard to deal with, their weakness to guns could be helped with new behaviors and quicker, stronger mandibles. If, rather than exposing their weak spot until they slowly walked up to you, they ran at you and chomped you, you wouldn’t stand a chance. The better mandibles would help them crush your spine quicker to keep their weak point from being exposed for too long.
    Regarding the clean up factor, in a scenario where T-virus is used, the Gammas would be able to get rid of the infected easily after the fact, since they’re already affected by the virus.
    Finally, their territorial nature would prevent anything or anyone from leaving. Set them up near the border of a town, and burst a few fire hydrants. Nobody will be able to get past them.
    I’ll admit that they aren’t usable in their current state, but there’s untapped potential that Umbrella’s higher-ups were loath to miss.

    You know, if they had used poison dart frogs and made the gammas smaller that alone would have made them far more deadly as a single drop of their body fluids could kill. Also by making them smaller it would be easer for them to sneak in close to administer the poison. Maybe add in exploding ant DNA so when it does die it maximizes the chases of killing targets.
