Ubuntu was right along. People want continuity between a platform, not 3 different devices between a work PC, a home PC and a phone

I always like the look of KDE but end up regretting it when I try it out... for some reason it always ends up buggy and glitchy after installation even with zero or minimal theming. Nitrux looks really nice otherwise though!

I used to be a huge KDE fanboy but I've also started running into all sorts of problems and eventually just gave up. It was starting to look stale as well. I waited for GNOME 40 and just jumped ship. I love it.

I'm most exited for what this means for tablets... and how it's going to manage being a DE for both formats without being the worst of both worlds. I keep hearing it's going to be adaptable... which I find really intriguing. I'd like to see where that goes.

KDE default is bland, but its made for the tinkerer. Get rid of the default panel and install Latte bar. Super customizable. You can make KDE anything you want. Maui borrows heavily from KDE and Gnome, blending the two.

Maui has a nice vision behind it, with respect to KDE which is "every dev can add all the features they have in mind". I hope the project goes well, also detaching itself from nitrux.

    • @RHTORAS

NO it must stay on nitrux as long as possible till we abandon systemD 100% from everywhere... if it goes elsewhere then the nitrux project wouldn't be a better choice than other debian based distros... As long as microsoft devs are involved on systemD then linux has dark future...

Ooh convergent desktop!! I like that they seem to have a reasonable way of working, putting things in place and not getting caught up in details. I feel like that was Canonical's downfall - becoming stuck in trying to nail guidelines and make everything shiny before knowing what actually will work or not. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but opening up the project for exploration and tinkering at such an early phase feels like people who aren't too stressed out about the usual marketing/image/buzz that larger names (read Canonical) might suffer from.

So as it looks now, this is Gnome, but with QT.
    So basically KNOME.
No desktop icons, desktop overview is straight ripped outta Gnome, toggles in a top bar, also like Gnome. Do we really need another DE that embraces the "the traditional desktop is dead" meme although every major OS uses exactly that traditional desktop?
I guess thats for the user to decide.
For everyone who wants to achieve that kind of look with KDE, use Latte Dock, a top panel with global menu and your quick toggles, clock etc on the top right. Done.
The apps from Maui with their giant fonts and buttons belong to tablets (all 10 on the world running a Linux OS), not on a PC. As I said, thats Gnome-like behavior which I cannot stand.
I dont understand why when someone makes a random thing in the foss world, everyone seems to get easily hyped about it. Devs should have asked themselves: Do we REALLY need Gnome with QT? Shouldnt we just skin KDE instead and collaborate with them upstream, wouldnt that be easier and more beneficial to users in the end?

Well i think KDE is a huge huge project, and on design or ui/ux perspective, it is a mess, inconsistent, and buggy. I'd rather have desktop that has good looking out of the box and tweak it to my likings than desktop that has cluttered design out of the box.
The only design that consistent is dolphin. Everything else is janky
But the thing I concerned about is the huge fonts you mentioned. But as long as it can be tweaked (including the gaps and/or button), I'm all for it. The only thing keeping me from switching to gnome is, that I can't tweak that shit on gnome, and everything looks so massive and I don't like it.
It's still on experimental though, so let's see
I love to see where this is going
