How to Fix a Cordless Dyson Pulsing Issue

  • My cordless Dyson v6 vacuum started pulsing and lost suction when I was pulling the trigger and I couldn't figure out why. It wasn't until I decided to start taking it apart and cleaning the vacuum and the filter that I fixed the issue of it pulsing on and off. This was a pretty easy and quick fix of the Dyson v6 vacuum pulsing on and off. You should always keep your vacuum clean.

I learned a lot from this video, but discovered it is missing one important step. The long, purple air filter that is removed from the top must be disassembled to be cleaned thoroughly. To disassemble, depress the three tabs which will allow you to slide the cloth filter off the plastic housing. The dirt is INSIDE the cloth filter. Turn upside down, tap, and shake out all you can before washing - inside and out - under a faucet. Let dry completely. If you don’t disassemble, you’ll leave a solid wad of dirt inside the filter. This dirt, btw, was the dirt that was causing my dyson to pulse. Hope this helps someone!

Thanks - got us started in the right direction. I had already put in a new filter, which did not help. After wiping out the container/canister, I also used a letter opener and a damp paper towel to wipe inside. It was filthy and had to be wiped several times. We used paper towels and compressed air all over the pieces - it was amazing how much dust flew out of the parts. Then I went outside, put my hand over the attachment section, turned on the Dyson and more dust blew out. Amazingly dirty - hopefully they are making a better easier to clean model.

Many thanks!!! Our house is on the market and we had our Dyson v8 Animal pulsate just at the time when we need to spruce up for showings and open houses. Once we cleaned the blockage it worked like a charm. When I went on the Dyson chat the automated message stated we might need a replacement part. I'm so happy I thought to run it through TH-cam and I clicked on your video. Thank you again!

Perfect, sending many thanks, we are under lockdown in the UK, i'm pretty sure our added care ended last december anyway, but even if it didn't, we can't take it back to the shop under lockdown, your method worked perfectly! Thank you so much, we don't just like a clean house, we have allergies to dust and a child with severe medical needs, have to hoover the mattress often, i was really worrying how we were going to manage..i lost my job so we can't afford a new hoover. thank you so so much.

Thank you so much. I'd tried everything he'd said but felt wetting the filter in its cone shape just asking for trouble. So, thanks to your comment, I haven't got a wet clod of muck inside my filter. Instead, because I couldn't disassemble, I took it outside and banged it on the wall, well, it was like a tardis, I couldn't believe how much dust and fluff came out, loads more than I could have thought would have fitted. Vaccum now working.❤

I couldn't figure out how to get the bin off, but I felt sure the problem (after cleaning the filter TWICE! and waiting for it to dry TWICE!) was the mass of stuff I could see from the side after I extended out the bin thingy. I got a chop stick and went to town. Cleared it right out and ta da! no more pulsing. You da man! TY!

Thank you so much!! I must say, a vacuum this expensive that doesn't have an on of switch... ridiculous. I know two people with hand issues who can't keep the trigger pulled due to arthritis. For the money, this is the worst vacuum design ever. Thank you kindly for teaching us how to stop the pulsing.
FYI: My Dyson stick has replaceable filters; you can't wash them. So my Dyson's issue is obviously some kind of debris stuck like yours was. I'll show this video to my friend who has been trying to help me with this issue... I'm sure he'll fix it on no time now that we know how it comes apart (if mine does come apart like yours does).

Awesome video, mine is the V7 but it works . Mine had a bunch of clumped dust/dirt right before the dirt catcher in the nozzle. It even had a 1” piece of styrofoam caught in there. I cleaned it all out and it works like brand new. I could have figured it out by myself but it was nice to see a video on it with other people that have the same problem.

Top man! My blockage was the rubber blow back flap just inside the connection point which could not open due to a 1mm piece of grit preventing the flap from opening. Your advice pointed me in the right direction within a minute of watching your clip. Sincere thanks, Top man
