Say what you want about Audis. They may look really conservative and understated, but man do they age well. The interior design on this car has aged super well.

I own a 2008 S5 4.2 V8, I loved the shape and look of the car back then and I still loved it when I bought that thing last year. In comparison the modern cars are not interesting to me and it's not because I wouldn't want them to be interesting just because they're new. They all look so fake aggressive with edges here, edges there, mean look etc. etc., idk, back then these cars looked elegant but weren't boring either.
And yes, the interior still looks very good when handled nicely over the years. There are upgrades for the MMI with Android Auto / Carplay functionality and after that it has everything I wish for in a car :D

Negative ghostrider. The Mercedes s550 from the same era makes this interior looks like it's from the early 2000s.

Right, and the same with BMWs. You could take a 1980 BMW for example, and if you didn’t know any better, it could be a brand new car! Almost anyway. Neither Audis nor BMWs scream “ancient,” even when they are ancient!

    • @potatodonkey1856

That’s mainly because it is so simple and understated. There’s not much to really date the car. With all the screens in cars today, I don’t think they’re going to age well

I bought the S6 version of it at 17 as a project car and I’ve been working on it myself since. I’m 21 now. No it’s not the fastest thing by any means but my god it’s such an intoxicating engine. Hands down the best daily driver. Comfort, interior, tech, handling, smoothness, driver engagement, chassis communication, sound, it’s got it all. The price is gas and regular maintenance. As for the engine’s origin; this is the first Audi V10. it’s basically a 4.2 V8 FSI with 2 more cylinders. The 5.2 Gallardo and R8 got this engine with essentially a different crankshaft and a couple supporting mods for high rpm.

The engine isn’t related to the original Gallardo 5.0 v10, which was an in house even-fire v10. It’s actually a modified and toned down version of the engine found in the Audi R8 V10, which is the same engine found in the Gallardo LP. It’s an odd-fire v10, but unfortunately it is 100% an Audi engine, even the Gallardo LP! Thought it was worth mentioning.

    • @marineornella6568

This engine right here, in the S6 & S8, is even fire. It got split pin crank and that's why it sounds so good. It's basically the 4.2 FSi with 2 more cylinders. The RS6 version has a regular crank and is odd fire. This 5.2 was modified again to be used in the R8 V10 and the LP560.

About 10 years ago this and C6 Avant were my dream cars. 😂Although I was more of a post-facelift C6 guy because of these LEDs in the back - somehow I found them very appealing.
I will never be so sure about that tan shade of leather but I must admit it's somehow tied together nicely with all the other bright parts of the interior, matched with the carbon fiber.
The steering wheel might not be the prettiest and the shifter isn't either, but I think this is peak of interior design when it comes to functionality + accessibility of it all. The upholstery on the doors, the center console, the dashboard - the more I look at them the better they look. For me the highlight is how all the speakers got incorporated to the interior. They add plenty of that RR feel to this S8. Definitely a fantastic place to be in.

Awesome car and great video! Thanks for bringing up the point about sidewall, I personally feel that too many luxury automakers aren’t considering ride quality as much as they used to when fitting massive wheels. Right after watching this, I watched your video on the 745li. The E65 generation was hated by many but the suspension tech on that car was incredible. Even though the variants with the smaller 18 inch wheels had sidewall, the active hydraulic anti-roll system allowed for that sublime balance between ride quality and handling.

The D3 has aged SO much better than the E65 7-series. How they went from the most gorgeous and iconic E38 to the E65 I will never understand. The D3 is sufficiently modern while still being understated like the E38. I was never a fan of the C6 A6/S6 because it always felt too round to me, and I feel it hasn't aged as well as the D3 in the long run.
I just bought a D3 S8 a little over a month ago and I love it, it's so addicting to drive. I've had to do some work to it, and any time it's down for an extended period, I spend the whole time wishing I could drive it. I had a D4 S8 previously and while that was an amazing car, I've never been a huge fan of the styling of the D4. I really wish I could get the interior and modern electronics in my D3 S8 and then it would be absolutely perfect.

One I will keep in authentic original shape as they came from the factory, so I would appreciate the philosophy and engineering behind it. The other one I would modify relatively heavily, adding some Lamborghini parts to the engine, open up the exhaust and change the transmission to a manual one that used to come in R8s. This one, I will enjoy driving. I'm both diesel and gasoline engines mechanic and I can do all I said.

@Tedward the greatest interior Audi ever released is the b5 chassis (if you haven’t driven one) i recommend a 2000-2002 s4 as a future video idea:)

The Gallardo's 5.2L V10 was also direct injected. The older 5.0L V10 was port injected, but that engine doesn't have much to do with this one.

Love this car, i have a 2011 audi a4, and i can spot so many parts in this D3 that carried over "trickled down" to the a4 of later years, door handle, MMI system, the ebrake switch, the media controls down low, the steering wheel is the same, gear selector the window switches, the seat controls, the engine cowling cover back there, dash cluster...., the tail light design is reminiscent as well. also the 90s b5 gen (owned one too) you can see the DNA in this D3 from that d2/b5 generation. im looking at this interior and figuring out how i can take it apart just like my old b5, screw here and there and pop n shimmy the console off lol

The shifter looks really out of place in that interior. With how the rest of the interior looks 10 years newer than it actually is, you'd expect to find one of those gimmicky rotary or push-button shifters!
