I learned this lesson the hard way a few months ago. I thought I was being clever buying a bmw f11 520d m sport automatic for £3,500 when they usually go for about £5k-£6k for the year I bought. Everything seemed fine mechanically, it was just cosmetics that needed work. Or so I thought. 2 days of ownership and i had a low coolant message pop up on the dash. Checked the coolant and found oil in it (which wasn’t there when I bought the car) Took it to my mates garage. They tested the HG which was fine so they set about getting the oil cooler off to check the gaskets on that. In the process they discovered the swirl flaps were hanging on by the skin of their teeth. So they got deleted. Then they found the oil filter housing was falling apart so that needed to be replaced. They put it all back together with the new parts. Remapped it to tell the ecu the swirl flaps weren’t there anymore and gave it back to me. 2 days later I had a transition fault displayed on the dash. Took it back to the garage. They told me that the cooler for the gearbox was on the other side of the one for the engine. And maybe coolant had got into the gearbox too. They checked that and everything seemed to be fine. They changed the gearbox oil and filter and handed the car back. A few days later I lost drive completely while at a junction. Got the car recovered to the garage where they diagnosed an EGR issue. So that got changed which solved the problem with the transmission warnings somehow. A few days later I started the car outside my house and as soon as it started something went bang and all the warning lights came on! The crank pulley had snapped and taken the water pump and thermostat housing out with it. So back to the garage it went again for more new parts. I had it back and a few days later the head lights decided they only wanted to work some of the time. So I sold the car because I couldn’t afford to fix it anymore. In the end including buying the car I had spent £7800!! In the space of about 6-8 days! If I’d just bought a £6k car I’d probably have been alright. It’s false economy to buy the cheapest version of a car. They’re cheap for a reason and you’ll probably end up paying well over the odds in the end. Just buy the best you can for the money you have
Feel bad for You mate. You can buy car much cheaper but only if you really know what you are doing and good deals are more like once a year deals not on everyday basis. I'm from Poland and one year ago I bought car worth around £10-12k on average for £5k due to "broken transmission" issue when actually it was just EGR issue and on extra some oil leak, brakes to do and oil service. I did it myself and paid about £300-400 for parts and fluids, if I gave it to the workshop it would be about £800-1000 so still a good deal. Also did many extra things like cleaning the intake, add intercoller from biturbo version, remap it from 150 to 220hp, add some extra features but I don't count that because it was above necessary. But I knew in this particular case (engine + trans combo) it's some complex connections between PCM and TCM which many egr, injectors, turbo or intake flap failure can cause transmission safe mode and many transmission codes, evem make trans stop working unless other issue are fixed. Anyway I took some risk that 90% it's not a transmission but for 10% it could actually be transmission (so if that I'd have to pay £4-5k for replace it so the deal is gone however I'd not lost on it anyway just no profit). I drove like 20k kilometers since that and no major issues, I had to replace one sensor by this time only.

Nice to see a mechanic on here that hasn't tore the car a new one he's only pointed out MOT related faults and the obvious running faults. So often the mechanics they get on here give a list as long as your leg and half of it doesn't even need doing.
It would've been really interesting to know how much engine out repair would've cost. Engine rebuilds for those go for around €10k-€15k, but they are also getting fewer and fewer on the road (we can all guess why). The point is that the remaining ones, that are in good condition and DON'T need work, start at around €20k now. I can only see them getting up in price with the coming years. So it might not be a bad idea just to keep this one parked or fix it and then park it for a few years. 4 years ago i let my 20 valve inline 5 swapped Audi B4 quattro go for just €2000. Now these start at 10 times the price in non-running state, that is IF you can even find one. Most of them are already rebuilt/restored or scrapped and if you have one now, the prices is as high as some crazy fan is willing to pay. One thing is for sure though - it's still the best sounding car i've ever had.
Even the 10V inline 5's are going up in price. I was able to find a 5 cylinder audi 100 c4 for 2800euro another comparable one I found had an asking price off 7000 euro. Also went to look at a 4500euro audi 80 B4 and it was an absolute wreck.
There's an R.E performance in Bury, greater manchester. I had my custom built bottom end for my TT 350Z fitted there.. I supplied full gasket set but they forgot to install the head gasket. Overheating galore but they assured me it was fitted lol. Anyway, i got nervous when you mentioned R.E Performance lol. PTSD.
You guys are actually doing the car industry a great service, making sure these basket cases don’t end up in the hands of other unsuspecting hopefuls.

I bought my 07 s8 for 6700 drove it for 3 days before the engine failed on me. It is a relic an antique and a super car all in one and I'll be damned if I never get it running again.
From 'coke to coke' could be the title of the next video taking us through the dismantling and recycling industry.
2:00 thats the Mr. Bean mod with the wipers yo :) Good stuff
that V10 sounds amazing
Carly once picked me up from Oscars in Clapton on sea and took me home to Great Yarmouth. Ring me Carly. Miss you ❤
Just make a series trying to fix it, great video as always.
Quality of content went through the floor when alex left.
def come back to this guy if another sponsor is silly enough to give you v10 money! cool vid
Thank you!!
Had an s5 and had literally the same issue, I got scammed tho got it for 1250 and it literally has all the issues on yours except I didn’t find funny powder or oil leak, I got the s5 2 months ago
The fact that this is the more reliable V10 compared to it's rival, the E60 M5.
Nice to see a mechanic on here that hasn't tore the car a new one he's only pointed out MOT related faults and the obvious running faults. So often the mechanics they get on here give a list as long as your leg and half of it doesn't even need doing.
MOT hate it or love it I love it, makes sure peoples cars in the road are up to standards
Awesome guys! love your spirit when facing the bill beast that this is!
Haha I really enjoyed watching this video! Great energy throughout the video, also with Ricky!
Brilliant video, lads. Jack and Edwin are a great duo!
These recent videos have been hilarious!
I think you should fix it and send it round the ring 🤣
Well you can buy it knowing the journey will be rough nad take it as a project and expend more money until you get it nice and shiney.
Cut it up into souvenir merch. I'll have something cool for the idea 💡 😂
Looked at one of these yesterday! Beautiful car! Will give it a miss now😂😂😂😂
One of these for sale in my area for 12k. I think it's safe to say I won't be going near that
It would've been really interesting to know how much engine out repair would've cost.
Love the car please fix it
I've been tuning in and out of car throttle but ethan knows his shit now fair play!
PTSD.
I’d say
Fuck it, let’s fix it to mint
I would really love too drive one off them Audi R8 V10's the blue one up on the ramp behind you when you where talking about your car.
This was definitely micheal from gta5’s car 🙌
They don’t birth mechanics like that anymore. Seems like a top bloke 👍
lol
How did it pass an MOT 90 odd days ago with that many issues?
3 for the engine? Felt sure he was going to say 2 😂
Seems like a great garage tbf
Please name this car ‘Kane’. Given the powder you found in it, I like the idea that it’ll be named ‘Coke Kane’
