This song is a world anthem for all soldiers returning from war. The song is so powerful in its universal message. It is certainly relevant today.

What elevates everything John sings is the emotion he puts into it. It's all his heart and soul that he shares with us, the blessed. How can we not get blown away?

What's CRAZY is seeing him perform this live. I feel bad for you that you have never felt that sheer joy of being in his audience watching his mastery!
I think straight after this he belted out Amazing Grace with Vanetta and Lindsay. John's concerts can go for two and a half hours and his heart and soul go into every song. I can't think of anyone else with the same energy level and vocal ability. So glad he's on the mend. Thanks Nick for another great reaction.
No, he sang a couple of ballads in between. Plus he also was talking to the audience for a bit, cracking a couple of jokes here and there. The two songs with only David Hirschfelder accompanying him on piano were Comic Conversation and a Stevie Wonder song called All in Love Is Fair.
A pretty sure you’re right - saw John in concert a few times and Amazing Grace with Lindsay and Vanetta was always a part of the close

When John literally opens up in a song, you are wherever he takes you. He can paint a picture in your soul. No one could ever reproduce the emotion he evokes, or the effect he causes with every line. This song was a regular in his setlists. There's an even more amazing video from 2003 when he was 54 where he belts it out even higher. Although I have to say this is my favourite version. Nothing better than John in his prime belting out one of the best songs ever written.

Yes Nick - this is my favourite Chisel song. John's version is next level brilliant. Ian Moss sings lead on it for Cold Chisel with the obvious back up of Jimmy.
Mossy sings lead in the first verse, Barnesy sings lead in the second verse, and they both sing the bridge part.

I’m from Australia and I grew up listening to John Farnham, Cold Chisel etc. And I admit I was spoiled listening their music, not understanding how much talent they have. Haven’t heard their music for a good 20 years and now I have been listening to them again and I am blown away by their gift in music. I appreciate it better now.

I had goosebumps the entire way through this. I’m so blessed to have seen John live many times. The only other artist (in my opinion) who could take someone else’s song and make it their own (& possibly better is Elvis). I put John right up there with the KING. 💕💕

We were somewhat isolated back in the day, no internet, no youtube etc. Throw in Jack Jones, Diesel, Renee Geyer and too many other artists/bands to mention as it was our golden era of music.

There is a version of this song where he sings live with Jimmy barns . It dosent take anything from this solo which is brilliant but the friendship and chemistry between them is amazing .I have rarely seen proformers care in proformance as much, as you sence from them . I believe he has been allowed to perform this song over many decades because Steve prestwich was the drummer for LRB when John was singing for them…. LRB also did this song too when they both were in the band…. So it’s Chisels song but also John has taken it as his own too

I used to go and watch Cold Chisel play at the old Cronulla Workers 40 years ago. It was adjacent to the beach at Cronulla in Sydney's south. Great times back then and the band circuit was awesome.
