"Carrie" was Sissy's debut movie and she received an Academy Nomination for Best Actress. She would go on and win the Oscar for Best Actress for portraying Loretta Lynn in Loretta's autobiographical movie "Coal Miner's Daughter." Fun fact about her role in that, that is Sissy's real voice when she's singing Loretta's songs. One of the last films I saw Sissy in was a supporting role as Hilly's mother in "The Help." Another movie from the same time period (from just one year earlier) that is very much worth watching is Pleasantville. It's kind of a reverse of this movie, with two modern teens dropped in the middle of a "perfect" 1950s/early 1960s setting. While quite funny, it deals with some very deep topics. I highly recommend watching it.
I was a semi big shot at Universal Studios Florida for 5 years from Grand Opening on (one of the best jobs I ever had). One of my favorites was Sissy Spacek, I got to spend some time chatting with her...and she is one of the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet. So much fun getting to hang out with her,
So glad you gave this one a chance - it's a fun little film that always seemed to put a smile on my face whenever it was on cable back in the day. Usually people talk about the Fraser Silverstone dynamic, but Sissy Spacek is a highlight of the movie. Glad she is getting the recognition she deserves here. Also, the B-plot never fails to crack me up. Great movie !
We must give credit where it's due. This film was written and directed by the great Hugh Wilson, creator of the TV series, WKRP in Cincinnati, writer and director of the Police Academy franchise, director of The First Wives Club, etc. His fingerprints are all over this, the innocence, the sweetness and giddy sense of humor. BTW, back in the day, the manufacturer of Dr. Pepper was looking for a way to increase sales and came up with a promotion suggesting hot Dr. Pepper as a new beverage treat! Yes, it was a thing. Also, Dave Foley (aka Troy) is a comedy genius. From his work with the Canadian comedy troupe, The Kids in the Hall, to his years on the TV series, News Radio, his ability to troubleshoot any comedic problem is legendary. He is always great. Some Brendan Fraser films from this era that would be GREAT ones to react to: _Monkeybone (2001)_ _Bedazzled (2000)_ _Gods and Monsters (1998)_ _George of the Jungle (1997)_ _School Ties (1992)_ _Encino Man (1992)_
Such an awesome and underrated movie, 1999 was an amazing year for cinema. Hilarious, heart-warming, and an absolutely stacked cast. Brendan Fraser and Alicia Silverstone are awesome leads, but having Christopher Walken, Sissy Spacek, and the incomparable Dave Foley in the cast (plus an early role by Nathan Fillion playing a d-bag) is the icing on an already delicious cake. Cheers and salutations from Canada. 🥃☮❤ Edit: Also, this movie is what got me into the music of Perry Como.👍
Such a good movie! Fraser on the peak of his career was awesome and even though it was coming to an end at this point, this era of movies was just the best! You had the perfect mix of comedy, romance and even some deeper messages and movies were still allowed to take their time and the characters and situations felt believable. When I stocked up my DVD collection, this movie instantly jumped to mind, because I never wanted to be dependant of streaming services for a movie like this

So this movie has a ton of nostalgia for me because part of its promotion was a swing competition for people to be in the big dance scene. A lot of my friends went to compete and we had such a blast even though none of us won. (late 90s had a huge underground swing revival)❤❤❤

Any movie with Brendan is a win but I would definitely recommend two more specifically: my favorite "Airheads" (1994) with Steve Buscemi & Adam Sandler and one of his biggest "Encino Man" (1992) with Pauly Shore & Sean Astin.
"Who's better, Lemmy or God?"
"...Lemmy?"
"Wrong answer!"
"God!"
"No dickhead, it's a trick question, Lemmy IS God!"
Love Airheads.
Yay! Another of my favorites. Thanks for watching it.
Man, this was one of my favorites as a kid.
I still have a VHS that I taped it on around here somewhere, commercials and all, lol.
Takes me back.
@16:00: This whole interaction is one of my favorite moments in the movie! That butcher in THAT neighborhood has seen every type of crazy, and is DONE it with ALL of it. Perfect delivery.
Saw this at the theatre with friends in 1999 as an 18 year old.
How time flies.
Yes! We need more reactions of this movie! Thank you for doing this!
Glad you guys are watching this, I recommend you guys watch Encino man and School Ties
According to the Intro, I think they've both already seen "Bedazzled."
@@tomhoffman4330 oh ok
@@tomhoffman4330 oh
Bedazzled(2000) with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley is great as well!
Love this movie, if it wasn’t for Brendan Fraser it probably would’ve gone much more unnoticed. He just has this natural charisma and wholesomeness which makes the movie.
Some Brendan Fraser films from this era that would be GREAT ones to react to:
_Monkeybone (2001)_
_Bedazzled (2000)_
_Gods and Monsters (1998)_
_George of the Jungle (1997)_
_School Ties (1992)_
_Encino Man (1992)_
Don't forget Airheads.
Edit: Also, this movie is what got me into the music of Perry Como.👍
Such a good movie! Fraser on the peak of his career was awesome and even though it was coming to an end at this point, this era of movies was just the best!
You had the perfect mix of comedy, romance and even some deeper messages and movies were still allowed to take their time and the characters and situations felt believable.
When I stocked up my DVD collection, this movie instantly jumped to mind, because I never wanted to be dependant of streaming services for a movie like this
This was on repeat in my house growing up. Love it.
Glad you enjoyed this movie, underrated as you said. Great cast. For another fantastic Sissy Spacek movie watch Badlands, a young Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek
Yay! This is one of my favorite mvies, it's so funny, so sweet and the characters are so genuine. Incredible cast, direction, writing etc. Glad you liked it!
One of my favorites. I used to have the VHS tape (yes i am old) and I watched this movie at least once a month for years. And here I am watching a reaction video lol. Somethings never change.
OH MY GOD!!!!!
I remember watching the brendan fraiser "comedy central" clip live in the 1990's....
Wow, that was LITERALLY a blast from the past for me.
brought back memories.
I miss movies like this.
I still have the movie on VHS
First time to your channel. I really enjoyed your reaction. This is one of my favorite movies of this genre and I watched a reaction right before yours same movie and she said the exact same thing and I felt the same thing. I just smile all the time. It's such a feel-good movie. Keep up the great work. You did a good job editing.
Way huge overlooked Fraser movie, Airheads. Packed and stacked cast, too. Steve Buscemi, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley and a bunch of others. Worth a watch.
Haha hell yeah. Awesome movie. Just drank a glass of milk for you tbr 😂...awesome reaction y'all.
I’m so happy you react to this!! I freaking love this movie! Brendan and Alicia were perfect, it’s so wholesome seeing Adam enjoying the rain, the sea, very underrated movie 👍🏼
Way underrated movie. Very Nieve difference between 60's and 90's. Love it. Clueless should be a watch very soon.😎🤙
Love love love this movie so much!
Sissy Spacek is my favourite! Coal Miner's Daughter is fantastic as is Missing (1982)
So this movie has a ton of nostalgia for me because part of its promotion was a swing competition for people to be in the big dance scene. A lot of my friends went to compete and we had such a blast even though none of us won. (late 90s had a huge underground swing revival)❤❤❤
You two would love, Pleasantville and Captain Ron.
Cool reaction as always Schmitt & Samantha, you both take care and have a good night
I love this movie. I always say "write that down"
How that "oh my lucky stars" line was never a meme astounds me haha
Funny, I'm a big film freak, but never watched this one. Maybe I heard about it back in the day... but if I did, I totally forgot about it.
Thanks for the reaction and for bringing it on my radar!
Watch Coal Miner's Daughter. She's in it as country singer, Loretta Lynn. She's excellent.
This is such an underrated movie. I’m glad you guys are watching this. This isn’t an award winner but c’mon….Christopher Walken! Great video guys.
Sooooo happy you watched this delightful gem. I try to share it with everyone. To me, a perfect film!!
Love this movie! Don't stop Sissy watching now. Her Oscar winning performance in Coal Miner's Daughter is a must see. Tommy Lee Jones is great in it too. She did her own vocals and became close to Loretta Lynn.
WOO HOO! I’m so excited you did a reaction for this that I had to submit this comment before you even finish the intro.👏👏👏🙌😃
I’m so glad you had a good time watching this… it’s such a fun movie and features my favorite cult of all time!😆
We all are here for that line in the movie...
Coal Miners Daughter is one of her best roles.... and she did all the singing :)
Mrs Winterbourne and School Ties are good Brandon Fraser movies to watch.
I should have Recommended "Mrs. Winterbourne"👍My Mother & I Love that one too!💝
Love that you guys watched this. I highly recommend ENCINO MAN with Brendan Fraser it was my favorite movie as a kid and his character has a similar innocent thing like adam
Dave Foley who played Troy, was in the legendary comedy sketch troupe Kids in the Hall as well as the brilliant sitcom Newsradio.
I second the call for "Coal Miner's Daughter" with Sissy Spacek. It's the biography of Loretta Lynn, who died about 2 years ago.
