I'm definitely an "overly excited trvu elitist" at most BM shows. This video is quite accurate for your typical fans at most BM shows in the US, especially the post-black metal guy. I remember starting to see a few of these post fans when I went to the Krallice and Wolves in the Throne Room tour years ago, just thinking "where the hell did these guys come from?" But whatever, they're more than welcome if they like the music. Lastly, they're less common now, but you forgot about the Hipster BM fans. They used to be everywhere at BM shows.

When I went to see Necrophagist, Cattle Decapitation opened and the lead singer called me and my friend out for just standing there with our arms crossed. I don’t know what the point of this comment is besides telling my story of how it bothered one person.

I would definitelly be a mixture of the ambient guy and the post-bm guy... just vibing, with a drink :'D Never been to a black metal concert, though, just getting into the subgenre. Some suggestions would be nice. My metal journey started when I was 12, with symphonic metal (Nightwish was my first). Then I went through the classics like Black Sabbath, Metallica, etc. Then, in my teens, my favourite band was Bullet For My Valentine and I listened to a lot of nu metal as well, like Slipknot, Korn, Mudvayne, etc. Then I went goth metal, Paradise Lost etc, to progressive metal and doom metal, and now my favourite band is Katatonia. My music taste is all over the place. Currently I'm obsessed with Ashnikko, but rap, jazz and extreme metal like black metal also seem interesting.
For the ambient black, I recommend you Чёрные Озёра (Chernye Ozera) (atmospheric/ambient black metal from Russia) and Make a Change... Kill Yourself (depressive black metal/ambient from Denmark). For the post-black, I recommend you Fen (atmospheric black metal/post-rock from England) and White Ward (experimental/post-black metal from Ukraine)

The NSBM guys I've run into in real life have all been the scrawniest most useless motherfuckers I've ever seen. Might be different in Eastern Europe but here they're largely just a laughingstock of "wait you ACTUALLY believe that crap?"
Personally, I just don't go to concerts. IMO, they interfere with the atmosphere and cheapen it all, and also the bands eventually start focusing too much on making their music "fun" at concerts, too rock-like. The one possible exception is NSBM when it looks more like a rally - I'd totally attend Asgardsrei.

Personally, I just don't go to concerts. IMO, they interfere with the atmosphere and cheapen it all, and also the bands eventually start focusing too much on making their music "fun" at concerts, too rock-like. The one possible exception is NSBM when it looks more like a rally - I'd totally attend Asgardsrei.
