I was having the same difficulty. This worked when I did this.... After you adjust your color, the top folder on the left will be the color you want. Drag that folder into the desktop area, then click and open what you just dragged into the desktop. The colored folder should pop up in preview, just one folder. Then Edit/Copy that, and then you should be able to Edit/Paste in the folder you want to change. Right click the folder you want to change, then 'Get Info', then click the little folder and Edit/Paste. Should work that way.
It still works but in a different way. Once you color the first fold only drag the first folder to your doc and open it, then copy and paste it on the icon in get more info :D.
Marks Woodside's comments are EXCELLENT for achieving the desired color changes; however, greater experimentation with the "Adjust Color" tool is required to get saturated colors. This may be done by using the 3 'slide' controls immediately underneath the color window display at the top of the App. These slides can be moved PAST each other which will result in some VERY interesting colors; they will also allow you to produce any saturated color ALONG with using the other controls of EXPOSURE,CONTRAST, SATURATION TEMPERATURE, and TINT. The SEPIA control has a tendency to "muddy" the achieved color although the results it achieves might be desirable for some application(s). I was able to create one folder which is a "Fire Engine Red", and another which is a "Kelly Green" by the method described. Another folder was made completely Black for assorted deleted items - all that's required is experimentation with the listed controls until you achieve a desirable result. If you get completely lost in your efforts, you can ALWAYS click on "RESET ALL", at the bottom of the 'Adjust Color' tool to start all over. May these comments help you achieve your desired results!
thanks for the info, it seems complicated, and I advise writing the steps down, but it is actually pretty simple, question what if new from clipboard is greyed out?
When I go to Edit, Copy from the little folder in "get info", it says "copy 53 items". You said it didn't matter, it doesn't have to be a new folder, but I don't want to copy 53 items. Every video uses a newly created folder, never a preexisting one with files in it. Why?
it works on high sierra. saw a comment by Lui Court and tried it, it works. Just make sure you select copy the image on the right (not the one in left sidebar) (drag and select, it'll come out as dotted lines) and copy it (⌘C) and paste it (⌘V) as per instruction and that's it.
I got to the last step- using a MacBook Pro 2019, I don't think it allows to be copy pasted on to the lil folder in get info! is there anything else I need to do. Thanks!
I have just been having the same problem but I read the comment by Its Jing and if you make sure you copy the right image not the left image in the margin it works fine
I was able to get the colours: yellow, orange and red. I did this by adjusting the outer dials on the graph, such as moving the left outer dial to the right side. Just muck around with it and you can get any colour you want. I hope this helps.
Hey thanks for the video, I found that I was able to change the color only on new empty folders, not sure why I wasnt able to change color on older files. ...
it works on high sierra you just change the color you select all of them then copy them and then go to the folder click on get info click on the little folder icon on the top left of the info window and press cmd + v
It didn’t work for me either. But this did… go to a search engine 1) Type in “Image of red desktop folder” (Or whatever color you want). 2) Choose a desktop folder image that is a png image with no background (obviously use one that is not copyrighted). 3) Drag it to your desktop, then double click on it. 5) Go to Edit/Copy then close it. 6) Then double click on the folder that you would like to change on your desktop. 7) Go to File/Get Info 8) Highlight Folder in Get Info in left hand corner. 9) Go to Edit/Paste 10) That’s it.
That was very good info but I'm wondering how to change the font from white to black and also is there a way to paste a photo onto the face of the folder?
I was able to get it Red and and a cool Multi Orange Folder but I still cant figure out how to make this the color of my folders. speak slower please, explain it like im a lil baby please
just play a bit around with the three arrows underneath the red green and purple collor (above auto levels) and that's how i got red, orange and yellow
Thanks. However, It's too bad if you use a lot of aliases for folders in external hard drives, and use Sierra. Because Sierra f^&king forgets the folder icon or colour upon restart. Sigh.
it works on high sierra you just change the color you select all of them then copy them and then go to the folder click on get info click on the little folder icon on the top left of the info window and press cmd + v
Hello, it seems that these are instructions for anyone operating on 10.12.6 ONLY, not above. if you try to follow these instructions and you are above 10.12.6, it will not work. you can check the version by pressing the apple logo in the top left, then click about this mac.
it works on high sierra you just change the color you select all of them then copy them and then go to the folder click on get info click on the little folder icon on the top left of the info window and press cmd + v
It works, you just have to copy from the saved duplicate on the desktop and then paste. If you try and copy it from the original folder from where you adjusted the color it won't work
Works like charm on Mavericks. Why would Apple be this hostile to customization is beyond me. That's why I am still on Mavericks. I have luck that all of the apps that I need work just fine. For other people, many do not. If you go to the App Store most of them ask for 10.11 and later.
how to get red color folder: max sepia, max tint, max saturation, slide temperature to as right as possible. Edit: change the exposure to get darker shade or lighter shade of red xDD I did that, and i get a dark red, kind of vampire dark red(?) color xDD
Cool! Thank you! Also, I got a red folder by pulling the far right arrow over to the middle under the red tint.... not sure if I can do it again but it worked once. LOL!! Now if I could just figure out how to change the font color.... ;)
To anyone who is still struggling! Mine weren’t changing for the life of me. Then I restarted the computer and it showed as I wanted. So try restarting after you try to change the color!
this doesn't work on high sierra SOLUTION! : heres what i did. Follow all his steps up-to the point where he says to delete it. DONT. click save as... Name it whatever... no tags... Where: desktop (so you can find it easily) AND THIS IS IMPORTANT: FORMAT: PNG. Switch it from ICNS to PNG! Now one image of a colored folder will be saved on your desktop. OPEN this image and do command c after clicking on preview (so hover your mouse on the colored folder and click on it) so it knows what you're copying. Now you can follow his steps and do command v on the little icon in "Get Info" BASICALLY: you have to save the folder as png as it won't recognise other types. unimportant but cool: I'm guessing this way you can also do images and little symbol images as long as their saved as png! thats cute. Wish apple made this easier though!

It works! Thank you so much!
It worked! Thank you!!!
That worked omg thanks :0

Why is it that when I click preview something opens up, I closed preview already

Use the bar all the way to the left on the levels to make warm colors

Love this! I was able to copy and past photos as my folder icon rather than just a color.
Oh that cool 😎 might have try it.

if you paste and nothing happens try selecting the icon or png in the preview then copy it and paste it in the get info
can I delete the preset folder after changing the colour or if I delete it'll go back to the original colours???
it works on high sierra. saw a comment by Lui Court and tried it, it works.

Hi! Thank you~ Can you please inform what Mic you have been using for making videos?
Thanks. However, It's too bad if you use a lot of aliases for folders in external hard drives, and use Sierra. Because Sierra f^&king forgets the folder icon or colour upon restart. Sigh.
Could you update a new version with High sierra?

how to get red color folder:
max sepia, max tint, max saturation, slide temperature to as right as possible.
Edit: change the exposure to get darker shade or lighter shade of red xDD
I did that, and i get a dark red, kind of vampire dark red(?) color xDD
Also, it didn't work for me, at first because my 'get info' file was locked. Once I unlocked it, it worked instantly.

Why is it that ever techie think everything is easy? "Quantum physics? It's really easy,"
Or, pay just $0.99 for Folder Factory at the App Store
Thanks, I will try it. great Video.
this doesn't work on high sierra
SOLUTION! : heres what i did.
Follow all his steps up-to the point where he says to delete it. DONT.
click save as... Name it whatever... no tags... Where: desktop (so you can find it easily)
AND THIS IS IMPORTANT:
FORMAT: PNG. Switch it from ICNS to PNG!
Now one image of a colored folder will be saved on your desktop.
OPEN this image and do command c after clicking on preview (so hover your mouse on the colored folder and click on it) so it knows what you're copying.
Now you can follow his steps and do command v on the little icon in "Get Info"
BASICALLY: you have to save the folder as png as it won't recognise other types.
unimportant but cool: I'm guessing this way you can also do images and little symbol images as long as their saved as png! thats cute. Wish apple made this easier though!
