    Learning how iaijutsu works made me realize that a garlean samurai with a jetstream sam sheathe to launch the sword could be lore possible

    • @lukoscreyden
      @lukoscreyden ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I could be incorrect here, but is that not one of the reasons Zenos has his super magitech golfbag sheathe machine?
      Not only to reference how he treats combat like a sport, but also to do the job of infusing his katana with aether for him, as at the point he has it he cannot do so himself.

    • @mikoto7693
      @mikoto7693 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@lukoscreydenI thought that myself. Zenos is clearly a Samurai but Garleans have no aetherial abilities, so I assumed that fancy bag thing he carries did more than just spin around-perhaps infusing the blades with aether or cerulean equivalents.

    My favorite part of the samurai job quest is when the master is talking about our refined honorable sacred katanas, and then I pull out my ironworks katana that spins and whirs like a toy when I unsheathe it.
    Also when the bad guy was revealed and he looked like my character's evil twin brother.

    Interesting to see all the subtle ways that this job's lore took inspiration from the history of real world samurai of Japan; from their roots as military vassals to the way in which their preferred fighting style shifted from large-scale combat to a more "indoor-friendly" practice, with a focus on promoting both disciplinary and spiritual growth whilst upholding peace with minimal casualties
    Also, does anyone else think the model for the SAM 70 gear (Myochin set, if I recall) looks a lot like Drak Gamestein?

      You’ve gotten my attention. I’m a Summoner and Scholar by nature. For solo and group content respectively. And White Mage as a second backup since I’m a natural born healer.
      But I really do enjoy hearing about the other jobs, their history and abilities. If I weren’t already set on my path I’d be really tempted by the Samurai ethical code.
      To serve the greater good, to serve the country does really seem a really good fit with the helpful nature of the Warrior of Light endlessly help others.
      I think the folding metal mentioned of the Katana might be based on the real world san mai forging technique. Or perhaps a form of Damascus forging.
      I guess I did learn from Forged in Fire afterall.

(I struggled a lot with Sage lmao) The way you capture the history and flavour of the classes while outlining exactly how they function not only in combat but in day-to-day life is incredible. And yet many samurai still fell into at the very least a bit of panic, when you accidentally use the same sen combo and you immediately Hagakure to remedy said mistake LOL

    • @mikoto7693
      @mikoto7693 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL I had similar thoughts. “Oh my, I wouldn’t be a very good Samurai because I definitely very seldom feel calm in combat.”
      Maybe it’s just because I’ve chosen and committed myself to the path of the healer. The Scholar or the White Mage (Smn for solo content) and I definitely feel the flutters of anxiety and excitement when I see a HP bar drop below 50% and hints of panic when a HP bar hits 25%. Especially if it’s mine or the tank’s!
      I’m sometimes keenly aware that I am the thin green line between victory and defeat. Whether we triumph or wipe is down to how good I am. Stressful! LOL!
      But, the feeling I get when I quick cast my best cure spell and restore the dying tank to full health is, for me, a magnificent feeling. Similarly if I’ve been working hard keeping the party alive all during the boss battle and I hear that sweet, sweet traditional Final Fantasy victory fanfare it also feels good.
      I couldn’t imagine feeling calm in battle.

    For context, since this is misunderstood to death by authors, writers, would be historians and fans of the Katana.
    In the real world... Katana is a Good cutting sword, a tertiary weapon of the Samurai (Bow and spear variations being the primaries).
    The fencing techniques are very similar and draw parallels to European/Middle Eastern and south Asian techniques as well.
    The folding on the Katana isn't magic... it was historically done since the Japanese Isles did not have huge stockpiles of high quality steel, instead the blade makers found ingenious ways to fix the poor quality of iron.
    European swords are generally, tougher, tend to be lighter tho the weight is comparable, and while the overall weapon length is the same as European armors progressed the blade grew longer and thinner.
    Katanas are still cool AF, as are most bladed weapons, but they aint magic
