    The fact that those golems look like Sin Eaters makes me endlessly intrigued about just what was going on there.

    • @SynodicScribe
      @SynodicScribe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +108

      There are many theories but nothing concrete. One of the most common ones is that during they arcane studies they gained a glimpse at what the opposite of Voidsent would look like.

    • @toodleselnoodos6738
      @toodleselnoodos6738 3 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      I have a baseless theory that in the same way certain arcane geometries and incantations are best for spells, they found certain golem shapes worked best/were most efficient for White Magic Golemancy.
      So, maybe they inadvertently created statues similar to Sineaters because that shape worked best.
      Alternatively, the White Mage/Conjurer equivalent on the First seemed to be the Devout job. Maybe on the First, they discovered their own form of “White Magic” and also created their own golems with light-aspected Magic. So when the Flood of Light happened, maybe it took on the form the people associated the most to “Light-based creatures/golems”.

    • @Raptor747
      @Raptor747 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      They're essentially White Magic taken to the same kind of extreme that Black Magic does with Voidsent. Hence, they look like Sin Eaters because they're White Magic (Light-aspected) Voidsent, albeit artificial and engineered drones rather than natural monsters.

    You know it never occurred to me that Mhach's behavior was so...similar. If it really did have the same dark founders as Allag and Garlemald then that would make a lot of sense. It would also explain why all of these imperial nations were prone to such militant and reckless expansion. No nation that expanded slowly and responsibly could ever sow half as much chaos.

    • @toodleselnoodos6738
      @toodleselnoodos6738 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      I was thinking this actually, though I assumed it was Emet-Selch and his panache for empire-building.
      He didn’t mention it, so maybe it was another Ascian.
      Though, it wouldn’t have surprised me if Elidibus worked on Amdapor to help raise the stakes of the war, raise the chaos, and cause the Calamity.

    Hearing more about the War of the Magi really makes me marvel at the abilities of White Mages and Scholars from the previous era. Being able to contend with the destructive power of Mhach's Black Mages must have been no meager task. As a Whm and Sch/Smn, I’m proud of the way my WoL has brought back two forgotten arts and broke a third from the restrictive controls of the elementals.
      It’s why I’m happy that we have retainers that can learn our jobs as apprentices. I made one a white mage, one summoner and one scholar in my retainers. I even kinda headcanon them training new candidates from the precursor guilds-Arcanists and Conjurers. Then there are the Ul’dah new summoners.

  • @BlueMageDaisen

    One thing seems to be missing, the final instigators of the flood
    It was the Elementals feeling threatened by the waning aether
    So they pooled their power to create an immensely powerful Elemental, not unlike that of a Primal summoning, who using the aether tilted towards Water summoned a great flood
    ... And well, It ended up being worse than could have been imagined due to the rejoining
    It's also why it took the Gelmorrans such a long time to make peace with them and why even now Gridania is on shakey grounds with them

    Fun fact about the Amdapoor, as we learned on The First, and as they likely knew in the 5th Era, light is the element of stasis. Within the hard mode dungeon for the Lost City of Amdapoor, we fight the enemies called magic pots, which would have been used as a kind of magic battery for the mages of the city or for the golems. They could have used light to stop the aether within the pots giving them a resource to draw upon later. It's also talked about that this misuse of the natural energies eventually had Amdapoor lose the favor of the elementals, which is why Gridania even today has to tread lightly around them.
