    Awesome video! I’m traveling next month from NYC to Indiana with my soon to be - on travel day - two month old. I am a single parent and hope, to the heavens above, that she sleeps the entire flight. There will be connections, but we will fly first class so I could be comfortable. I saw the stroller at the gate, which answered one of my mental questions. I also didn’t see ear muffs/plugs on the baby, which kind of answered another - unless he did have a pair. Thank you!

    • @FamilyonStandby
      @FamilyonStandby  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congrats on the new baby! Nursing or bottle feeding definitely helps to keep them calm and happy. But she will def sleep :)
      For the stroller, yup - just put it in a bag (don't have to, but it adds protection... the one we have is linked in our description) and leave it by the plane door.
      And no - we don't use ear muffs. More hassle than they are worth. If it makes you feel better, certainly use them. But our kids just rip them off and it's another thing to stress over.
      Good luck!

    • @FamilyonStandby

      Personally, if we have a seat for the little one, the preference is safety of a car seat over the DockATot. But if in lap, the DockATot spread over us is quite nice.

    would you recommend travelling with a 1-month old baby during covid on a 15 hour international flight? i also have a 2 year old too... decisions, decisions..
    So many things to consider...
    Like, how to buy a plane ticket for someone who's not even born yet?? And also how to get the baby's birth certificate in time, in order to create the passport in time, all within 1 month before the actual flight?

    • @xs2278
      @xs2278 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question but he didn’t respond 💔 just want to know also if the babay ears will be fine during 18 hours flight 😬😬

    • @FamilyonStandby
      @FamilyonStandby  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! That's a bold move. At one month old, that's a conversation between you and your doctor. For comparison sake, we were concerned with taking our 5-week-old on a flight before COVID. But if there were a big enough reason, we'd do it.
      We're obviously not scientists or doctors, so don't take our word as the final say. There's evidence of breastmilk providing antibodies to the baby, so that would help us feel better.
      The second part is even tougher! You can get a passport without a birth certificate, but it's a bit more effort. You can fill out a DS-10 with the application, from our understanding. But to get your passport within one month, you'll need to actually do an in-person application. And we're not 100% sure those are happening right now.
      Domestic flights you can just add infant-in-lap designation to your reservation after baby is born. That's no biggie. But you have to have passport in hand for international.
      Good luck!

    • @FamilyonStandby
      @FamilyonStandby  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your comment made us see this one, we didn't get a notification! So thanks for the comment.
      Baby will do just fine. Look for signs of pain, like grabbing ears, and react accordingly. Our strategy was taxi, take-off, and landing: boob. Any whining? Boob. Our kids have flown some 250,000 miles and we've not had issues with ear pain.
      Nursing, bottles, or pacifiers all will help regulate the ear pressure.
      Happy flying!

    Hey thanks for the video! I have a few questions, so you don’t need a car seat for the baby? The baby can sit in your lap? Also where do you put the stroller? It’s too big to go in the overhead and I don’t want to check it in and it gets damaged

    • @FamilyonStandby
      @FamilyonStandby  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Under two can sit on your lap, so that makes things very easy. But if they're in their own seat, they should be in a car seat. As for stroller, we gate check. It doesn't go through the airport bag system and have never had an issue!
