What's your worst cake fail? I found some crazy ones on Instagram & Pintrest ... but there is always hope!! 😍
Fresh cream cakes.....had so many fails with them, especially in the summer 🤦🏽♀️ still haven't figured out how to stabilise the cream properly 😔
Dunno actually. BTW finished the captions :)
I had a cake fail once.. it was in my younger brother's birthday and i really wanted to make a cake on my own. Well.. it was a complete fail. It was a cookie monster cake. The blue icing wasn't blue enough(it was very pale blue though i added a whole blue food colouring bottle) the eyes were... creepy (very creepy, my lil sister almost started crying) and it looked like a complete mess. But it tasted quite good.
I was making sticky date pudding. Not sure if it quite counts, but it was definitely a fail. To make it you need to boil dates in water then add baking soda, to soften the dates. This releases CO2 gas, and bubbles up a bit. The recipe called for 1/2 tsp of baking soda, but I misread it as 2 TBSP of baking soda (I was like 7 or 8). The recipe said to dump it in and whisk quickly, to stop it overflowing. I dumped in the 4 tbsp and whisked, and hot date water expanded out of the pot and went everywhere. Mum was not pleased.
I literally froze a cake for like 4 days 🤦♀️ Idk what I was thinking 🤣

Off-topic, but that little stop-motion animation with the motorbike was very cute
Yeetus Defeetus I think what they meant by “off-topic” is the fact that he’s not talking about the cake
Yeetus Defeetus yah

So my mother was making a cake for my older sister and while she was finishing the cake, she felt like she was very sick and then BAAM!she accidently pushed the upper part of the cake....(i was decorating the house)when i went into the kitchen, i saw my mom panicking about the cake but i had put her to rest then i saw some of these cake rescues and i went for the dirt theme because she was a plant lover. So i made flowers on the cake with the dirt .when my mom and sister both came in they were like....THAT IS SO COOOLLLL especialy my sister So Thank You Ann!Without you, I was never gonna make this cake right!
Aww gosh I love that little story!! :D
That’s really sweet, I’m glad!
It's a common joke among programmers to say "It's not a bug, it's a feature!" when code winds up doing something you didn't quite intend, but actually somehow makes the program work better.
This seems like a similar philosophy.
In a lot of cooking you can do that a well. Something goes wrong most of the time you can fix it.
@@jonathandpg6115 Exactly! Crumbling the cake wasn't a "mistake", you did it on purpose! No one's gonna know unless you let on.
tiacat11 Yh on bake off or master chef one year they tried to call their not very frozen ice cream soft serve- if she wasn’t laughing she would have been fine 😂
It's not a failure, it's just something that builds a little bit of character.
I thought the it's not a bug it's a feature was a meme about people clowning on Microsoft for acting like a bug was intentional in order to save face from backlash. Not necessarily a beneficial side effect, in fact usually detrimental
My best cake save was for my daughter's 16th birthday. The cake just fell completely apart when I tipped it out of the pan. (Red velvet from scratch. I didn't pull it off) I called my husband at work and told him to buy 3 dozen bouquets of Walmart roses.
While I was waiting for him, I cooled the cake and then arranged the pieces on a large white platter. There was NO way this crumbly mess would take the buttercream frosting so I warmed it slightly and poured it over the cake. It wasn't thin. Just barely warmed enough to flow. Managed to get a cake shape out of the whole thing.
When hubby got home I went to work (for the rest of the night). I picked the best buds and blossoms from the flowers, then went to work ripping the rest to shreds. Pulled all of the petals off. Coated the flower petals in a thin egg white/water wash, then tossed them in sugar. Those went in the dehydrator for a few hours until the coating was dry. Then I covered the cake in rose petals, I mean the WHOLE CAKE. When I was done, there was hardly any cake to see.
I arranged the whole flowers and buds on a corner of the cake and held my breath.
The next day, my daughter cried with joy. Said it was her first 'grown up' cake. Her friends were impressed. Moms were impressed and asked me where I got the inspiration. (I confessed to one of my friends that I 'pulled it out of my butt.') Yes, people ate the candied rose petals. (Not with the cake. As a candy.)
You couldn't even tell that the cake was mangled underneath.
Then I wiped the sweat from my brow and had a glass of wine. lol!
Mother of the year 😘😘😘
That's amazing, Go you! But people really ate Rose Petals?
@@evecampbell3069 Yup! It is an old fashioned legitimate treat. Once I told them this, people were more than happy to give them a try. They don't taste half bad.
With that said, I wouldn't recommend anyone eat Walmart roses. Lord knows what's been sprayed on them or what they've been soaking up in the water. I did rinse them well before sugaring. And I did tell people where I got the roses as I was serving the cake and told them that if they didn't find roses appealing to feel free to pick them off. I wouldn't be bothered. Nobody suffered a negative reaction, so this worked out well.
@@vociferonheraldofthewinter2284 That's good. Not sure if I would ever try it though, new fact everyday! My stepsister tried to make a birthday cake once, but she rushed it and the cake wasn't cooled. The middle layer of frosting made the cake slide around, so she speared the cake in 4 places to keep it in place. It looked like a Frankencake. It was delicious though. Absolutely covered in frosting and Sprinkles.
Many Asian countries eat rose petals .They consider it as a herb .
American eat Macdonald but not a rose petal.

This reminds me of one of the cutest story about my parents early relationship...
It was my mom's birthday and she made this very light and fluffy (and fragile) cake /tart with egg white merangue on top
Around 2 hours before the guests where supposed to come, she decided she should pop the tart in the oven some more to give then merangue a more golden brown colour.... What she didn't consider was that she borrowed the cake pan out to a neighbour after she finished.... No problem, she took 2 smaller rectangular pans, turned them upside down and put the cake on the bottom of the 2 pans in the oven.... Surely , the cake melted and started falling apart in between the pans
When my dad arrived (earlier to help her out a bit) he found her crying in the kitchen.... He listened to the problem and asked her for a bowl and a big spoon.... He scooped out the cake, packed it in the bowl and flip everything upside down like making a sand castle.... And it held its shape, mom made some whipped cream and covered it all up and no one had any idea
My dad was a. Handy man and it turns out he was also good at cooking.... He is no longer with us, but he still lives in our hearts and our memories
that's such a sweet story! ♡

Ann couldn’t make a cake fail even if she tried!
haha, oh i don't know about that! 😝
so true
Thomas Davies
She clearly can, but she can also rescue the fails. (Of course, she generally doesn’t bother with the extra step of creating the cake fail first.)
@@ragnkja ....she kinda can't. Her attempts to purposefully fail a cake still looks rlly good conpared to the real cake fail😂
She literally made a fail and fixed it 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
Wow, using a bowl and frosting for a save is genius! I’ve never seen that before. Amazing! :D
She's the Bob Ross of cakes
Agree. There... might... be quite a lot of frosting in that, mind... the ultimate sugar high birthday?
David Scothern maybe you don’t need such a thick layer? I’m not a huge fan of frosting, but I suppose you could do with a thinner layer if it covers up the lumps enough to make it smooth.
yeah, it'd be great for a barbie doll or princess dress cake too.
Russinka 1984 yes I was thinking she might put a doll into the cake could also put edible glitter on the outside for the dress
I thought you were going to turn these fails into some extravagant nearly impossible cake designs, but I love how easy and practical these fixes were! Simple steps, anyone could do them. Thanks for the video & tips.
By the way, thanks for saving the ganache! Some TH-camrs just act like everyone has enough ingredients for a full second batch, so thanks!
It’s about time someone made one of these that wasn’t “make it into cake pops!!” Because that’s not the point in having a cake!!!!! This was such a good video, top job as always Ann ❤️❤️
i agree Monty ... cake pops are actually really fiddly and, to be honest, most of the time they're not that nice either!
I saw someone else link this - idk how I missed it, but it turns out Ann's had a magic brownie recipe up for years! Made with cake scraps!! My mind is BLOWN tbh th-cam.com/video/82mxKiqZyxI/w-d-xo.html
I've had some decent cake pops, but they were supposed to that way from the start, and it was very different from those videos...my grandfather made, them, he would make cake 'hemispheres' make a solid chocolate pop, put the hemispheres around the chocolate, seal with sweat cream frosting, and dip in white chocolate, cover with various goodies (my fave was crushed nobake cookie)

My mum always tells me when I'm freaking out about cake disasters that "Frosting can hide a multitude of sins!" So far she's been right. 😂
Cooking rule of thumb: If it's a sweet food that doesn't turn out, add icing or chocolate. If it's a savoury food that doesn't turn out, add cheese. 😉
Icing sugar dusted over the top hides a lot of stuff too.
What if your fail is the icing ;)

That blue lumpy frosting cake could have been turned into a cookie monster to safe it
I thought the exact same thing xD
@Yeetus Defeetus sorry, I was being a dumbass. I don't think before I comment
@Yeetus Defeetus not really actaully. Get a butter knife and scrape the icing into a zip lock bag than knead it out before cutting a quarner off. Than get a round cookie cutter or even use a hanger and shape it into a circle. Pipe the icing into the circle using it as a guide and a spoon to spread it out. Grab some candy eyes and a cute candy nose and boom.
I thought more some type of fantasy land with bluegrass for some alien type feel but thats cool too

What is it with people not letting their cakes cool?
I do it all the time, but usually I'm not trying to stack it or use buttercream and I eat it warm with hot custard with my family, YUMMY
They probably don't know that buttercream or other frostings will melt and assume that letting the cake cool is something done for the cake's sake and not for the frosting. It could also be impatience if they wanted the cake as fresh as possible and waited until the last minute to bake it and, oops, now there's no time because mixing took longer than expected, better hurry up and stack it before I miss the event this is for!
I'd say time pressure or impatience.
