Carl wasn’t only the greatest jazz trombone artist, but to know him personally was one of the best experience in my life. He was a true humanitarian. I miss him a lot, but I’m so lucky to be able to hear his wonderful music through the years!!!!

Absolutely smooth and melodic solo by Fontana, one of the greatest!

Carl, like all legendary improvisers, never missed a chord change. This was Carl in his prime and thankfully someone was there to record it.

Would have loved to hear Fontana and Chet Baker together. Two great melodic improvisors.

When a masterful musical brain and unfettered instrumental technique converge the product is pure beauty! We miss you, Carl.....
    Thank you for sharing this!!

Love Carl's doodle-tongue turns @ 2:10 & 2:18. They are so clean you think he was playing a valve trombone. Unbelievable!

Here's what you get when you have a musician that has a very complete command of an instrument, combined with a deep knowledge of how to make music. Carl Fontana makes the trombone sing effortlessly.

Superb! I introduced my old mate Pete strange to Carl at the Edinburgh festival many years ago. Pete was like a Lttle kid! RIP both of you.

This is THE quintessential recording of Fontana playing Emily for my money. He used to like to play it in 3/4 in later years but this is my favorite version.

Such a great talent. I don' t even enjoy "Emily" played by any other artist because of Fontana;s versions. His command of the trombone makes it a truly beautiful instrument to listen to.

Doug Skinner both Carl Fontana and Frank Rosolino were both teachers of mine. Frank taught me from 1975-1978, right up until he passed away. Carl took over from 1978-1983. The absolute best jazz trombonists of all-time!!!
