    My favorite is “The Voyage Home”. A commandeered Klingon vessel, the crew having to rely on its wits and resourcefulness, time travel, no enemy to battle but a set of problems to solve... and the original cast. What’s not to love?:)

      The punk song “I Hate You” (from the bus scene) is so perfectly written, I was blown away to find out not only was it written just for the movie, but the writer never wrote a punk song before.

      To be fair, star trek the motion picture was leaps and bounds above the original in a lot of ways when it comes to how they put the film together and the graphics and such. It was also a lot less cheesy and set a tone far more serious than previously th hought. Then we get wrath of Khan which was phenomenal in all ways and we wouldn't have gotten that without the motion picture. *shrug*

    Glad to see & hear Star Trek: Enterprise being acknowledged as hitting its stride when it was prematurely cancelled.
    Personally, I find Insurrection worse than The Final Frontier; it just had a TV Movie feel. Even Sir Patrick Stewart & Brent Spiner expressed dismay over the fact that they were reworked back into their season 1 personas.
    Star Trek: Nemesis does have a familiar look because it took elements from Star Trek II & Star Trek VI.
    For me, the best Star Trek film was Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. It was a fitting finale to classic Star Trek's cast & a sci reflection on the end of the Cold War in the real early 1990s.

It visually explains the origins of the Star Trek universe, and the event that leads to the Federation in 100 years. Generations plays like a 2 hour episode but it has some interesting ideas. • @marcusmanchester7095
    @marcusmanchester7095 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I tend to rank them in tiers, bad movies, watchable movies, and Great movies and as long as they're within the right tier, the order is down to personal preference, but this is my order. Personally, there is two movies that I love that most people rank lower than I do, but I can see where people have issues.
    Bad Movies:
    13) Star Trek Nemesis
    12) Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
    11) Star Trek Into Darkness
    10) Star Trek: Insurrection
    Nemesis is at the bottom of the list because it was the final blow for the golden age of Trek movies, but it has it's good parts (Hardy is good but not great, and the battle is the best small fleet battle in the entire franchise). STV is obvious, it's just bad. Into Darkness is one of those movies that is subjectively bad for dozens of reasons but is objectively an OK movie, regardless, I can't watch it without hating on it. I LIKE INSURRECTION, I think it's watchable and it meshes well with the franchise, UNFORTUNATELY, it plays better as a two part episode than it does as a movie.
    Watchable Movies:
    9) Star Trek 2009
    8) Star Trek: The Motion Picture
    7) Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
    6) Star Trek: Generations
    5) Star Trek Beyond
    Put these in any order you like, they are watchable and enjoyable. ST2009, is at the bottom of my this list because repeat viewings if begins to fall apart with repeated cliches in much the same way that Nemesis does, the difference is it's a more enjoyable movie. TMP may be boring but it's not bad. I tend to put Insurrection here, but I know that is the one thing people will truly take offense to for whatever reason.
    Great Movies:
    4) Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
    3) Star Trek: First Contact
    2) Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
    1) Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
    Personally, I'd rather watch VI than II, but it's arguable as to which is a better movie. Also, go back and watch First Contact, The Undiscovered Country, and Generations, those three have held up to the ravages of visual expectations better than the rest of the franchise.

  • @CmdrTomalak
    @CmdrTomalak 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Before watching, jots down correct order. Watches and prepares to argue and judge.
    *later* Not bad, not bad but no way is Star Trek Beyond better than Star Trek reboot and definitely not better than Undiscovered Country. Dude... you trippin.

    I loved undiscovered country. I actually think it deserves 3rd place though. Wrath of Khan will be 1st for me, the Voyage Home is number 2, undiscovered country is number 3 and generations is number 4.
    Maybe I just like the old star trek better… which is weird because I grew up with generations. But I have always enjoyed the movies. I feel like watching wrath of Khan and then In search of Spock and then voyage home is a well spent afternoon. Lol With the exception of the recasting of kirstie alley, that a whole series feels like one story to me and is still one of my favorites to watch to this day. I personally like generations better than 1st contact, but I can see your point in that 1st contact was a bit more tidy and had a lot of fun action base. I've never seen nemesis and I don't really want to… so yeah.

    I was mildly surprised/pleased to see some love for Generations. I am not sure why it's gotten so much hate over the years. But I will say Nemesis is worse than Insurrection (which was more of a long TV episode than a movie). Nemesis was just clumsy and tired. I can't rank ST: Into Darkness because it's the only one I never bothered to watch and the description here reinforces that.

    Generations as #4? Are you off your rocker?!?! I was willing to forgive you overrating Nemesis (despite the huge plot holes and that utterly unforgivable Troi mind rape sequence) but Generations is bland crap from a Paramount Studios who LITERALLY cared more about marking the date they could tear down the TNG sets than actually having a good script. Not to mention the utterly awful and embarrassing way they killed off Kirk, or how stupid that entire setup was.
    I'll just tell myself you were trolling for comments (like mine) because there's no way a reasonable person would consider Generations the 4th best Star Trek movie.

And I really dug the references to Enterprise era and the MACO's, and even gave a simple explanation to what happened to them.

And if you don't take the rest of star trek continuity into account, you're right it is a great movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it, then I realized the continuity issues and it kind of killed it for me. Ian Samuels That’s a good point, the battle had a sense of realism in how the Enterprise put up a fight against the Scimitar, unlike JJ Trek that just has outrageously powerful vessels beating the shit out of the Enterprise. You also get to see the crew working together seamlessly and showing their expertise, which is quite rewarding after a decade of seeing them together.
