My top 4 is the same as yours, with DS9 as #5. Rewatches/the ability to binge has changed my opinion--I love Enterprise way more than when it was on the air. It's hard to judge with some of the new shows not finished. What are the chances that you love Disco's 5th season so much that it moves the show up a rank or two??🤔 1 Voyager 2 TNG 3 Enterprise 4 TOS 5 DS9 6/7 Picard/Discovery (flip-flops; both have only 2 great seasons) 8 Strange New Worlds 9 Prodigy (would move up if more seasons are as good as the 1st) 10 Lower Decks 11 The Animated Series (two seasons and like only 3 music cues makes it unbingable)
There's a method that is as close to "objectivity" as it can get, but only works if you like TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY equally (when they are at their very best). Try to choose a very small number of essential episodes, the very best from each show only. With Voyager it's easy, and with DS9 you'll end up mostly with Dominion War stuff. But with TOS and TNG is near impossible, since even the weak episodes have a bit of magic to them that makes you want to rewatch over and over.
Lists like this are always interesting because you can always what the List maker likes and hates. Honestly, whether you like it or hate it, I'm just glad that there is a Star Trek series for everyone.
Absolutely. When you weigh up what they managed to achieve against the resources of time and money that they were so lacking in, it is absolutely the best. No other series has inspired the same measure of loyalty from fans (although I'd argue DS9 gets a very honourable mention for its masterful use of longterm storytelling). The letter-writing campaign to save the show in 1968 is more incredible than any internet phenomenon.
STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES was an incredible pioneering show which was significantly ahead of its time and ground-breaking in so many ways. For this intelligent and creative element alone, I will always place it as "Number One." Everything else rides its coattails.
I feel the same nothing in my opinion will ever top the original no matter how many polls they have the music alone is iconic none of the music from the other shows comes close 😊😊😊😊
@@bonghunezhou5051 Koenig was brought in only because they producers hoped it would appeal to girls that were in Beatlemania at the time. There's nothing personal about these decisions quite often.
Wholeheartedly agree. TAS kept the dream of more Star Trek alive at a time when revivals of older shows were unheard of, and imo the art and stories and voice-acting by the originals (even if a tad stilted much of the time) more than made up for the wooden animation and recycled footage. I still wish the show had continued on for many more seasons.
It had all the flaws of tos and the animation highlights those flaws. I'm not saying that I wouldn't watch it over most marvel superhero movies, just that it earned a low rating.
1. TOS (most rewatchable) 2. DS9 (highest quality) 3. ENTERPRISE (yes, favorite theme-song!) 4. TAS (my introduction to Star Trek as a child) Discovery is dead last.
I agree with your list except I would place TNG either 2nd or 3rd. It competes with DS9. No to the Enterprise theme song ;). I don't consider Discovery and Abrams-Kurtzman content as Star Trek. Forced to put place it all on a list, I agree with your placement of Discovery.
@@bonghunezhou5051ST:D is definitely an STD. What a load of absolute rubbish, how dare they insult the name Star Trek with that crap. Get lost Franchise killer Jar Jar Abrams and Star Trek Killer Klutzman, we don't want your rubbish.
In my opinion TOS, TNG and DS9 are the holy trinity of Star Trek series. And DS9 in particular represents the last gasp of top notch writing and acting on TV.
I totally agree also. Personally I put TOS at #1, because I am of that generation that grew up on TOS, TAS, the conventions and fan magazines (we used to call them Fanzines), all the way to the films. But in those three series, you are in rarified air, and I agree there is very little separating them, you could almost say it's a three-way tie for the top. Personally, I also put DS9 at #2 and TNG at #3. As beloved as it continues to be, I thing TNG has not aged as well as even TOS. But that's just my opinion. I'm a little surprised at how low Enterprise is, while it was flawed, especially in season 1, I liked the characters MUCH better than Voyager. It's hard for me to imagine anyone seeing Voyager as their favorite. It's a great premise, but it was executed "blandly" and the characters are mostly not great (exceptions for Tuvok and the Doctor, I really liked them, but almost no one else). Nothing from the Kurtzman era even comes close, although I agree about S3 of Picard, it actually felt like Star Trek. SNW started out pretty decent and i was hopeful, but it's really gone off the rails with stupidity and it's no better than Discovery to me. I haven't bothered to watch the new animated shows so have no opinion.
TNG didn't start really rocking until Ryker grew the beard. The first season almost made me abandon the show. By the time TNG ended, it was pretty good. DS9 rocked from day one and like most shows, got better as time went on. Who knew it would get as good as it did with arguably some of the greatest space battles to ever be put on a television screen. Orville is up there as well. TOS needs nothing because, despite its flaws, it is and always will be THE FIRST. The benchmark that all other Star Trek shows should have always followed but now we have a mess with 3 SETS OF CANON. What the actual F*ck. Voyager was a show I really liked as the opportunity to create so much new material was mind-boggling. I think that might have been its downfall though. Some of the writing just got hobbled by itself. Not to mention, it seemed to always want to "feature" a different show character every week as the MC of that episode. That would be fine if there were only like 4 of them but having 9+ of them over the course of the show kind of watered down the continuity of the show. The only problem I had with Star Trek, in general, was at every turn they were usually "out-gunned" by their enemies or adversaries and always survived. Not to mention, Star Fleet was supposed to be the ultimate "entity" of Universe cooperation but yet, had the weakest armed and defended ship in the Galaxy LOL.
TOS is so episodic you can watch them in almost any order. There's maybe 5 episodes out of the whole run where events in past episodes have any effect at all. Pretty much all that comes to mind is the time they steal a Romulan Cloak after literally "facing" them for the first time earlier and the second episode with Harry Mudd. Guess when they go back in time on purpose too. Both times. SNW is pretty amazing. Everything, even the lead in feels exactly like the production team from TOS was making it, just today. That lead in is pretty much exactly what my childhood imagination filled in watching the start of a TOS episode too. I still can't get over that, lol.
If you follow a strict watch guide and cut every episode with any amount of time travel (yes cutting out all of the Xindi) then you have an A+ Star Trek show imho.
For me, Enterprise took a long time to really get going, but holy shit once it did with the Xindi Arc? WOW! I'd say that arc is second only to the masterful Dominion Arc in Deep Space Nine in terms of glued to my seat watching.
@@murrethmedia Xindi only feel like a good arch cause it's actually written as a whole season arch. But world building wise they contribute nothing to the StarTrek lore and so are super boring to me. I love every episode with the Vulcans, Andorians and Telerites though. I wish the show stuck with that, it was way more interesting to the whole lore. I rewatched the Xindi Arch like 2 years ago now. It really has a lot of stinker filler episodes. In the end the Xindi are hardly explored, what can a future Startrek show even do with them? And to top it off the arch ends with the worst 2 parter I know. Zero Hour's cliff hanger and season 4s first episode Stormfront where they go back to WW2. That was actual dog 💩 What a way to drag it down in the mud.
Voyager doesn’t deserve any respect, it had everything going for it, great premise, then proceeded to throw that premise away through lazy writing. All shows have a list of worst episodes, but Voyager had so many.
TOS is such a trailblazer, so inventive, so well written, so well acted, so influential on culture and even comedy ie Southpark, that TOS is always tops because 60 years later its still top rated on cable at 8pm, it's simply the most popular show in syndication way surpassing even I Love Lucy oh, you just got to realize that Star Trek the Original Series it's probably one of the best television shows ever made I would call it the best television show ever made
I was ten years old when TOS premiered. I can't believe that the world prefers Lower Decks over The animated Series. I guess it really does come down to writing.
Same age as you and same opinions. I still vividly remember when "Man Trap" premiered. Man, I was impressed as all hell. Only one in my family who noticed that Nancy looked different to Kirk than she did to McCoy. We even had a loud argument over whether I was just imagining it until we saw the doomed crewman's perception of her. Loved the monster. Practically yelled ,"Wow, look at 'em go!" as the planet retreated rapidly into the distance at the end of the episode. I was a fan for life already by then.
I was 20 when it premiered. Not an animation person but also think animated series way over Lower Decks, a kind of slapstick kind of humor. Couldn't get into that silliness as part of a franchise. What I like about the animated series is that I kept thinking how this or that script for this episode might be expanded to live action. It definitely is better written. Also, DS9 for #1 for me and Sisko best captain.
@@casanimated1715 Wow. Still in high school, are you? You single-handedly make the case for why teenagers shouldn't be allowed to go online. When you can write like an adult, I'll answer you.
I greatly enjoyed the ranking and was a bit surprised Discovery was ranked as high as it was. My list would list all the legacy Star Trek in the order they came out with the Nu Trek a bit Different 1. TOS 2. TAS 3. TNG 4. DS9 5. VOY 6. ENT 7. SNW 8. Prodigy 9. PIC 10. Lower Decks 11. STD (and thats a compliment) If I was given the option to take it off the list I would.
I mean.... putting Picard ahead of DS9 for the final season? Which is pretty overhyped by a starving fandom. In my book its: TNG - DS9 - ENT - VOY - TOS - SNW - PIC - LD - PRO - TAS - DIS. I woudln't be totally against TNG and DS9 sharing first place and ENT and VOY sharing Second.
@@magister343 Yea, thats what I meant by "starving fandom". Its good compared to Season 1 and 2, its good if you compare the "look and the music" to other Star Trek projects (since 2009). But its not good if you look at it with a neutral eye.
@@free4atlanta By that seanhill4535 probably meant because it is fan-made and not an official Star Trek production. Clearly he meant no disrespect of its production quality, which I agree is excellent.
Glad to see Enterprise get some love in your personal ranking. Highly underrated show, especially the 3rd and 4th seasons. Also, for the last episode... Haha, what will Riker think of next? Writing a program with historical characters that completely changes events that really didn't happen that way. That rapscallion.
last episode talking about the program is inconsistent. It is implied that the program already exists and was suggested to Will to try being the chef by Troi. but then implies that Troi never ran the program before. A lot of people didn't like it as the last episode. I agree with them to a point because it was more of a TNG episode than a Ent send off... but still was a decent episode. Near the end of the run episode with some changes to Trip in particular would have been a great episode but gets heat for being the last. I really enjoyed the episode as it does add some meat to the TNG episode.
If Manny Coto had helmed all 4 seasons, it would have been top #3, easily. Coto got what ENT was about, and managed to weave the old style of TOS episode structure into modern day popular TV audience demand. The man created a show called Odyssey 5... and it's reviews hailed it as Star Trek in approach to modern day issues. That's what is missing from NuTrek that The Orville embraces... Tackling modern day issues that NuTrek is afraid to tackle... In case someone calls them out for offending them. Call him what you will... Roddenbury was a brave man to stand against the tide of his era and put humanistic views on his modern day issues on screen with exploration of issues. Not dogmatic prejudgments.
My personal ranking 🤔?? ...no.1. is still DS9. 2. Strange New Worlds 3. Voyager 4. Lower Decks 5. TOS 6. TNG 7. Enterprise 8. Prodigy 9. TAS 10. Picard 11. Discovery 🖖❤️
I wonder if The Orville will get at least an honorary mention, as it's the best "Star Trek" series post Enterprise, sure Picard Season 3 wasn't the worst (yet overhyped) but Season 1 left a sour taste in my mouth (and I even skipped season 2) as it's all still stuck in the Klutzman Dystopia.
@@pike100 Well, compare them with STD, Picard, and all the other drek Klutzman wants us to believe are Star Trek then you know in your heart (and mind) that Galaxy Quest and The Orville are far closer to actual Star Trek than those Star Drek shows.
I remember when Deep Space Nine first came out, there was considerable fan blow back (mainly during the rough first two seasons) on the cerebral emphasis (?) on the Bajoran religious aspect of the show, and not as much BSU (blowin' s**t up), so, I'm pleasantly surprised that it now ranks as high as it does. Quite the comeback! Most Star Trek shows started out with great promise but tailed off at the end (yeah, I'm looking at you Enterprise and Discovery!). After the first two seasons, I think the writers deciding to frame the Bajoran religion more as a bunch of advanced but not omnipotent "wormhole aliens"! They certainly weren't "prescient" (all seeing), as they were constantly shown to be surprised by the actions of the human characters ("why are you here?", "What is this "time"?), which made them seem less metaphysically god-like and more science fictioney (like Q and the "god" in Star Trek: The Final Frontier)! Another strong aspect of the show, that helped resuscitate the series, was the development of the substantial Dominion War serialized arc, which is the only Star Trek I still routinely binge watch. Also helping revitalize the series was the successful fleshing out of two of the races that were given short shrift in ST:TNG, namely the Ferengi, and the Cardassians. Even the Klingons and Romulans were afforded substantial insights into their cultures. Then, of course, there were a couple of other relatively minor tweaks that helped the show "get their sea legs" so-to-speak, namely the introduction of the USS Defiant, and then there was the introduction of Section 31, the Tal Shiar, and the Obsidian Order, and the wonderfully enigmatic Garak! The Next Generation was limited to . . . well . . . Barkley, I guess!
@@JurorNumber24 I've seen all of TNG but not that much of DS9. I've heard people say they like the darker tone of DS9 but the thing I liked about TNG was the optimism and idealism of it. I already know how shit humans can be I want to imagine what we could be like at our best. I don't want Picard or Sisko to have to do dirty deeds to preserve the Federation. Maybe thats unrealistic tho lol
My list mostly matches Popcast's list, however I would have ranked Strange New Worlds a little higher just above Lower Decks. Interesting how Discovery is way down on the list on both Global ranking and Popcast ranking data. I think some of the takeaway is which series has the most number of compelling characters and stories. Voyager had a solid cast after Season 3. As did some of the others. Thank you for compiling this!
Mine would have to be 😂 but I could see your list working 1. The next Generation 2. Stange New Worlds 3. Deep Space 9 4. Voyager 5. Enterprise 6. Picard 7. Lower Decks 8. Prodigy 9. The Original Series 10. The Animated Series 11. Discovery
Pleasantly surprised to see Voyager on top of you guys' list 🤜🤛It's my #1 as well and I agree wholeheartedly regarding it's re-watchability. I liken it to comfort food. I got DS9 at #2 and TNG at #3.
@ThePopcast, very good and fair list on every angle. And the more I personally watch TNG (many I remember almost line by line having seen it during its original run as a child and preteen), that one will probably remain the GOAT Trek series for a long time to come.
My son and I went to a Star Trek convention when Gene Roddenbury announced that there would be a Star Trek movie, the first one and yes we went to see the movie when it came out. We’re still Star Trek fans!
This list is the closest to mine ever. Most lists ends up with Discovery and Picard way too high. But this one is dead on, thanks for making it. I am often split between TNG/ToS as the first spot. I guess what I would want is a ToS-esque series in a TNG setting, where you have more than 3 main characters (Kirk, Spock, McCoy) like TNG, but a more rigid captain like Kirk with rules closer to ToS.The seven seasons of TNG really allowed us to see interesting stories about all characters, including O'Brien (who as spectacular in later seasons and on DS9), and even Barkley, who got closure in Voyager. Imagine ToS having had the same treatment. That said if we get more "classic Trek" I would not mind a series in the "Lost Era" between ST6 and TNG, or just continue after Nemesis (And no Romulus supernova garbage, I like my Romulans and they should explore them like we explored Klingons with Worf, Ferrengi with Quark, and Cardassian with Garrek and the others later). If I could chose exist in a startrek era, I'd definitely place my alter-ego fan-fiction character in the TNG area as a young 18yo around late season2 or early season 3 of TNG. Have a nice evening everyone !
The video game Resurgence deals with Post Nemesis (having a TOS guest character in it who doesn't get sucked in by BS events about a Supernova) and one plays as first officer and a lower decks engineer, it's a Telltale like game. It was so refreshing to see proper Star Trek again and the game was fun as well with a good (imho) story. For a new Series I'd also wish for it to be either Post Nemesis (ignoring all the 2009-Disco-Picard nonsense) series or one set in the TOS movie era setting as they had the best looking ships (Refit Connie reigns supreme) and Uniforms. They shouldn't shoehorn in older characters though as that feels...well shoehorned xD
Basically a continuation of the original series with a lot of the same top actors and the same great writers like Harlan Ellison who wrote City on the edge of forever. The animated series is a sleeper television show of all history
I’ll leave out the show I haven’t seen (Prodigy) and just give a top 10. 1) DS9: the show that effectively launched Serialized TV and proved you didn’t have to Trek anywhere to explore the true Final Frontier 2) TOS: a show that consistently overcame the limitations of 60s TV with its episodic story telling, by telling stories worth seeing, and effectively launched sci-fi into the mainstream 3) SNW: a return to Trek’s roots as an optimistic and fun storytelling medium, lead by a Captain I honestly can’t get enough of on screen 4) TNG: the show that struggled for three years to find its voice, began mixing episodic and serialized storytelling, presented some of the greatest Trek we could hope for to propel the franchise forward, but ultimately for me struggled to be a true ensemble show and devolved into just telling stories about Picard and Data and occasionally Worf, with the rest given what normally were fairly weak stories 5) Enterprise: unlike TNG it wasn’t given the chance to find its way after struggling for the first two years before giving us the Xindi in s3 and then finally getting to telling about the origin of the Federation in s4. The show gave me an entire cast of like able characters but struggled for too long with weak storytelling and the unfortunate sexploitation inherited from the success of 7 of 9 in her skin tight suits 6) Voyager: this show had the opposite issues of Enterprise for me, with normally strong stories over the course of 7 seasons, but a cast of characters that I didn’t like besides Janeway, or who struggled to ever create a consistent identity like Chakotay, and an unfortunate regression to a more TNG like episodic nature of storytelling for a show that screamed out to be more serialized in dealing with the struggles of returning home and integrating the Marquis into a Starfleet crew. Ronald Moore leaving this show to do exactly what this show should have been on Battlestar Galactica is why better stories weren’t enough to surpass Enterprise in my rankings 7) TAS: the advantages of giving us the fourth and fifth TOS seasons were bogged down by cost saving issues for the cast, and stories that were sometimes not up to the standards of TOS. 8) Picard: s3 did not work for me at all, I’ve never been a huge fan of TNG as evidenced by its ranking on my list, so pure nostalgia wasn’t enough to keep me interested, I was already bored of the Borg by the time they returned on Voyager, so definitely didn’t need three more seasons of them on Picard, and thought their handling of the Founders proved the writers never actually watched DS9 with how horribly they were used. In all honesty, I much preferred the first two seasons of the show 9) LD: I do not like this show at all, it feels like someone had The Orville described to them, and decided to make Family Guy Trek, but missed out on all the great episodes of Orville and just heard the fart jokes 10) STD: I cannot stand this show at all, I forced myself to get through the end of s2 just because I love Pike that much, but this show just doesn’t work for me at all. Characters only delivering monologues, never having dialogues. Making every single thing the most dramatic thing you’ve ever seen, even just running a marathon, and stopping that for yet another dramatic monologue. Characters that I honestly dislike, not just don’t like. Just the absolute worst Trek ever for me
The proper ranking imo: Star Trek: Voyager Star Trek: DS9 Star Trek: TOS Star Trek: TNG Star Trek: Enterprise All equal in their own ways…but Voyager season 5-7 was peak Trek. The introduction of Seven of Nine brought complexity to the entire show. Captain Janeway was catapulted to not only having the responsibility of getting her crew home, but also becoming a mother-figure and protector to the Borg Queen’s greatest enemy: the one drone who reclaimed her humanity. Episodes like “Timeless”, “Dark Frontier”, “Equinox”, “Human Error” and “Endgame” showed true Roddenberry humanity of what to do and not to do in life changing scenarios. I absolutely loved that show and it really helped me through some dark periods. I am certain if Gene had been around he would have been greatly proud of what Rick Berman and Brannon Braga created in Voyager (using as Braga once told me - “Roddenberry DNA”) in the show. Therefore, that’s why it ranks number one in my book 😊
Strange new worlds is amazing great. Perhaps the all-time most original and best episode was the one with the dancing and singing Klingons. That was so funny, superbly done, one of the most enjoyable entertainment moments in Star Trek history.
This was really fascinating. I really have never thought that Voyager was that good, and everyone I have talked with or read said the same thing. So am surprised on how high it was on the list. I think Enterprise has always gotten a bum rap, and actually it a lot. While I like the actress who plays the lead on Discovery, I really feel that they drop the ball on delivering a true Star Trek experience, although I do like the fact that Pike showed up and they spun it off.
My personal head canon is that TOS was the notable Kirk adventures from years 1-3, TAS and IDWs’ Year 4 comics were year 4, and IDW’s Star Trek Year 5 was that final year of the five year mission. Gene Roddenberry does not consider TAS canon, but IDW’s Year 4 and 5 comics clearly are a sequel to TAS. Because Lower Decks considers TAS canon, and IDW’s Year 4 and 5 comics are a sequel to TAS, those comics are at least Alpha and a half canon.
I understand the criteria and method for rankings on the "status quo" list, but I'm not understanding the methodology used for the Podcast ranking, what was the criteria used to build that list?
Agree. It’s almost the like the creators are trying to undercut their own methodology because they apparently don’t agree with the rankings. Kind of like: Well, this is what you said BUT somebody else ranks them differently!
Me at the beginning of this video: This will be a definitive list! oh boy!! Me after the first 2 minutes of the video: SOME OF THE PEOPLE DIDN'T EVEN WATCH ONE OF THE SERIES?!?!?
I agree with most of this list except than DS9 is the best Star Trek series. It had a better first and second season than TNG and overall far better episodes and stories than Next Gen
The first season has SO MANY bangers. Emissary, A Man Alone, Babel, Captive Pursuit, Dax, The Nagus, The Storyteller, Dramatis Personae and one of the greatest episodes of the entire series: Duet.
TNG could have run for more seasons easily, although they ended the series perfectly. Was so pleased they made Picard S3 to make up for how the movies ended.
Wow, great work compiling all the data. Top five seems to be pretty much spot on, but personally I would rank SNW ahead of Voyager, but that is perhaps due to recency bias. TNG and DS9 are easily my two favorites in no particular order and that seems to be the concensus of most.
I played Trumpet with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra and the cast of TNG in a stage play "Every Good Boy Deserves Favor!"- Michael McClary, Professor of Trumpet 🎺, Georgia Perimeter College & GSU❤🎉😂😂
1) TOS, 2) TNG, 3) Picard S3, 4) DS9, 5) SNW, 6) Enterprise, 7) Lower Decks, 8) TAS, drop WAY down and 9) Voyager, 10) Prodigy, 99) Diarrhea, 100) Picard S1&2, 101) Root Canal, 102) Disco. Wanna play a drinking game that will kill you? Take a shot every time they say "warp core" in Voyager or everytime you scream "why?" at any episode of Discovery!
Excellent presentation. The global ranking is perhaps the most accurate list I've come across. I'm pleased to see Strange New Worlds getting a lot of love. Anson Mount plays Capt. Christopher Pike perfectly and could arguably be among the top three captains in the whole series. With Rebecca Romijn as Number One (Una) and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M'Benga, who is in my opinion the best doctor in the series, this spin off has the potential of growing more popular if the writing continually improves. I'm just thankful they pulled Mount's Capt. Pike character and Ethan Peck's version of Spock away from Discovery.
Maybe someone voted on this, but they certainly didn't ask me. I've been a Star Trek fan since the Original series debuted in 1966. I would rank the shows in this order.
Star Trek TOS is my number one, followed by Star Trek TNG. Third place for me would be TAS, fourth would be the TOS movies, and 5th will be the TNG movies (including Generations). I'm not a fan of anything outside TOS or TNG mainly because it gets way too complicated for me. And I'm not a fan of modern Star Trek. I stopped paying attention to Star Trek after Nemesis.
It makes me sad that the animated series was ranked last. It was a great series. It’s sad that many people won’t give it a chance. I saw it when it aired. It makes me happy that STD is the lowest rated live action series. I rank TNG slightly ahead of TOS in my top 2
Feel the same as you about TAS. Was a teen when it premiered. It had its production flaws sure, but the stories were great (way better than the novels and comic books that came out at the time) and kept the dream of Star Trek alive when it looked like Star Trek was never to air new episodes ever again. Imo people of later generations have no idea how that must have felt. It was something to sustain us thru the Star Trek dark ages of the 1970s.
1. Voyager (I connected with the entire crew the most and it is my most rewatched series) 2. The Next Generation (Data and Deanna Troi were the best characters for me) 3. Strange New Worlds (the best Star Trek series I've seen in years) 4. Picard Season 3 (Seasons 1 and 2 were so bad that I'm not including them on this list. Season 3 was a love letter to TNG fans) 5. Lower Decks (The biggest surprise for me. I hated the animation art style and the humor from the trailer, but when I gave this series a chance, I loved all the refences from previous Star Trek shows with Season 4 episode 1 being my most favourite episode because it's a Voyager centered episode) 6. The Original Series (Great crew, great cast, series did not age well) 7. Animated Series (Great to see the original cast come back and voice their characters) 8. Enterprise (Loved the music, didn't connect with any of the crew) 9. Deep Space Nine (My number most hated Star Trek alien race was always the Ferengi. Quark just made this series hard to watch for me.) 10. Discovery (didn't like the story) 11. Prodigy (the only series I haven't seen. I want to move it higher but I have no idea how to watch it now.)
Mikey Spock and Kling-Orcs failed to impress us. Especially Mikey Spock. Strange New Worlds, by contrast, is GREAT Trek. And Lower Decks is hilarious. Picard S3 is the only worthy season of Picard. Nothing will ever top ST:TOS. And ST:TNG.
as a fan of the original Star Trek as well, as all of the features made after, I loved Galaxy Quest, and I would love to see continuing stories about those characters.
As a "boomer," I am partial to TOS. Like RMB, I am not a fan of (most) nuTrek. It would be interesting to see how the rankings would be if categorized by age.
Started TOS from day 1 when it came one. Also not a great fan of nuTrek, though I do like (most) Strange New Worlds and some Discovery. (The 'whispery' voice of Michael reminds me of Janeway at times.) What I don't like about nuTrek is, to me, becomes so convoluted with this and that ... too many threads, too many long sad good-byes..
Glad to see Enterprise in the top 3. It was very different when it first aired, but it really shines on streaming. Also glad to see Discovery dead last. I gave that show more chances than it deserved, but it only got worse. However, if Picard only had S1-S2 I'd definitely rank that below last.
Ooh. Good challenge. 1. Wrath of Khan 2. Voyage Home 3. Undiscovered Country 4. First Contact 5. Search for Spock 6. Star Trek (2009) 7. The Motion Picture 8. Final Frontier 9. Nemesis 10. Beyond 11. Generations 12. Into Darkness 13. Insurrection ... tbh 10-13 I could juggle around order.

I like that TOS, TNG, and DS9 were in the top 3. My personal list would be: 1. TOS(Started it all) 2. TNG 3.DS9 4. Voyager 5. Enterprise 6. Season 3 of Picard The rest aren't even added since I've tried to watch Disco, SNW, Lower Decks, Picard Season 1 and developed an utter distaste for them. Lower Decks can be better if it was more serious and thought provoking as Star Trek should be instead of an annoying comedy.
I didn't like DS9 but with time I have come to like it more, I watched today Strange new worlds with the cartoon people, I will have to watch the second series or is it the 1st series again. Seems I decided not to watch, but I think yuor right, I am missing otit on a lot of things, the cartoon version with spok , i didnt even know about. Thank s for the info.
I know I'm being dim - but I couldn't work out what the "positions" in the list meant? Confused the hell out of me. Still - nice video for reminiscing - and it must have taken AGES to get the "points" collated even if I didn't understand how that related to the order on the list 🤣 (* EDIT *) Just watched the last 2 minutes - NOW I understand 🤪
I don't think Lower Decks is as bad as people make it out to be. But Enterprise is far better than LD (The final episode of Enterprise wasn't good, I agree, but the series is amazing/underated). Picard Season 3 is the only real redeemable factor of its series. Discovery would be near the bottom of the list.

My top 4 is the same as yours, with DS9 as #5. Rewatches/the ability to binge has changed my opinion--I love Enterprise way more than when it was on the air. It's hard to judge with some of the new shows not finished. What are the chances that you love Disco's 5th season so much that it moves the show up a rank or two??🤔
1 Voyager
2 TNG
3 Enterprise
4 TOS
5 DS9
6/7 Picard/Discovery (flip-flops; both have only 2 great seasons)
8 Strange New Worlds
9 Prodigy (would move up if more seasons are as good as the 1st)
10 Lower Decks
11 The Animated Series (two seasons and like only 3 music cues makes it unbingable)
Yall suck. That was easy
Would be a shame if people got your sponsorships pulled for you guys being terrible people. Dont connect your TH-cam acount to your twitter.
I still think TOS was the greatest achievement for its time. And I love the musical scores, they're an important element in how re-watchable TOS is.
Absolutely. When you weigh up what they managed to achieve against the resources of time and money that they were so lacking in, it is absolutely the best. No other series has inspired the same measure of loyalty from fans (although I'd argue DS9 gets a very honourable mention for its masterful use of longterm storytelling). The letter-writing campaign to save the show in 1968 is more incredible than any internet phenomenon.
as someone who didn't grow up with it and has zero nostalgia, TOS is still super watchable and entertaining
Enterprise and Voyager will always be my favorite shows.
I love both of thier Starships. And Voyager is my #1 favorite Star Trek series
STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES was an incredible pioneering show which was significantly ahead of its time and ground-breaking in so many ways. For this intelligent and creative element alone, I will always place it as "Number One." Everything else rides its coattails.
I agree 100% .... everything else is a carbon copy.
Agreed!! Exactly NONE of the following shows would have even existed
I feel the same nothing in my opinion will ever top the original no matter how many polls they have the music alone is iconic none of the music from the other shows comes close 😊😊😊😊
Why was it so ahead of its time?
DS9 is my # 1 series, and In the Pale Moonlight the best episode in any series.
Mine too.
Same!
The acting of Quark always stunned me. Such a fantastic actor
TOS and DS9 interchangeable in #1 and #2 imho
Same but my favorite episode is "Duet" then "In The Pale Moonlight" is my second favorite
Sad to see TAS getting so little love.
Kudos to Nimoy for sticking up for his colleagues.
True, but even "Lennie" seemingly drew the line at Walter Koenig, the least senior member of the cast.
@@bonghunezhou5051 Koenig was brought in only because they producers hoped it would appeal to girls that were in Beatlemania at the time. There's nothing personal about these decisions quite often.
@@bonghunezhou5051 I guess the thinking went that he wasn't in the original cast and only added in to appeal to "teenyboppers."
1. TOS (most rewatchable)
2. DS9 (highest quality)
3. ENTERPRISE (yes, favorite theme-song!)
4. TAS (my introduction to Star Trek as a child)
Discovery is dead last.
100% concur with ST:D at the bottom;
The outstanding story arc of seasons 5 through 7 is what places DSN as the series with "highest quality"~
I agree with your list.
@@gregvarner9562 - it’s great to be validated! 😉
THIS
I totally agree also.
I agree completely.
nope. ron moore drags on and on 😂
TNG didn't start really rocking until Ryker grew the beard.
I can watch TOS over and over. So many episodes are memorable. I’m loving Strange new Worlds too.
Enterprise is the most underrated series of all time. For me is in #2 position.
If you follow a strict watch guide and cut every episode with any amount of time travel (yes cutting out all of the Xindi) then you have an A+ Star Trek show imho.
Seconded. Enterprise is my absolute favorite.
For me, Enterprise took a long time to really get going, but holy shit once it did with the Xindi Arc? WOW! I'd say that arc is second only to the masterful Dominion Arc in Deep Space Nine in terms of glued to my seat watching.
@@Broockle Wow, you didn't like the Xindi arc? Different strokes I guess.
That was actual dog 💩
What a way to drag it down in the mud.
Regardless of their ranking, we must Trek forward, remember the past, and learn from it.
Ds9 should be way higher
nahhh... discoverry bad
I'm glad to see Voyager finally getting the respect it deserves. It's my favorite!
If you haven't yet, watch Prodigy, it's basically a Voyager sequel by the end of Season 1
@@Elkott yeah it's upsetting they canned it
Amen. Voyager and Enterprise are GREAT Trek!
Voyager doesn’t deserve any respect, it had everything going for it, great premise, then proceeded to throw that premise away through lazy writing. All shows have a list of worst episodes, but Voyager had so many.
@@Elkott
I really hope they get someone to take over the show.
Could the fans have a go?
TOS is such a trailblazer, so inventive, so well written, so well acted, so influential on culture and even comedy ie Southpark, that TOS is always tops because 60 years later its still top rated on cable at 8pm, it's simply the most popular show in syndication way surpassing even I Love Lucy oh, you just got to realize that Star Trek the Original Series it's probably one of the best television shows ever made I would call it the best television show ever made
I agree, some better episodes are even now breathtaking. Pure art and cult status. For smart people 😉
I was ten years old when TOS premiered.
I'm sure this wont be controversial at all !

Brilliant! "TNG" will always be my #1 golden-age *and* overall "Star Trek" show.
Ds9
Automatic like for putting Discovery where it belongs
Wasn't just us, the global ranking also puts it at the bottom.
Discovery should be with the Borgia Pope in the lower levels of hell!
Discovery is not Trek
DISCO SUCKS!
Should have been lower.
Deep space 9 is my number 1 star trek
All I know is that I'm glad I exist in a reality with Star Trek.
It's a wonderful creation.
mostly agree. Just Enterprise needs to be higher. Mid pack at least.
I mean.... putting Picard ahead of DS9 for the final season? Which is pretty overhyped by a starving fandom.
In my book its:
TNG - DS9 - ENT - VOY - TOS - SNW - PIC - LD - PRO - TAS - DIS.
I woudln't be totally against TNG and DS9 sharing first place and ENT and VOY sharing Second.
I agree with you about TNG and DS9 sharing first place. EnT sharing 2nd with VOY,not for me.ENT was extremely boring and bland for me.

My list is very similar to yours. Enterprise is criminally underrated.
TOS was by far the best IMO.
Hahaha 🤣 oh that Riker!
last episode talking about the program is inconsistent.

After Star Trek Enterprise, Star Trek died R.I.P.
This is the correct answer.
Enterprise at number THREE!? What!? Is this a joke!?!?
This is the STRANGEST list for Star Trek I have EVER seen!!!
I've been a fan since 1966 and found Prodigy riveting!
SNW being 5th despite having only 20 episodes is proof that you can actually do that format today, do it well, and have it be a smash success.
Neph, The Orville is NOT a Star Trek series. I hate it when Orville and Galaxy Quest get classified by some people as being part of Star Trek.
@@pike100 Well, compare them with STD, Picard, and all the other drek Klutzman wants us to believe are Star Trek then you know in your heart (and mind) that Galaxy Quest and The Orville are far closer to actual Star Trek than those Star Drek shows.
@@NephritduGrey I hate STD, too. I have never seen Picard. However, I did love season 1 of Strange New Worlds.
You can’t be serious…
I just ❤ when Garak speak.
The next generation was my favorite, but I´m watching DS9 for the first time! and oh boy! It's so good!!!
DS9 is objectively the best series, but choosing any of them as your favorite is completely understandable.
"Objectively" eh 🤣
@@captainwheelbarrow649 Yeah. Push comes to shove TNG is probably my favorite, but I freely admit DS9 is better
@@JurorNumber24 I've seen all of TNG but not that much of DS9. I've heard people say they like the darker tone of DS9 but the thing I liked about TNG was the optimism and idealism of it. Maybe thats unrealistic tho lol
My list mostly matches Popcast's list, however I would have ranked Strange New Worlds a little higher just above Lower Decks. Interesting how Discovery is way down on the list on both Global ranking and Popcast ranking data. Future video for sure.
An amalgamation of all the other Star Trek rankings over the internet? Like Rotten Tomatoes! Or in this case... Rotten Tribbles!
I’m watching the animated series now! It’s surprisingly entertaining!
Basically a continuation of the original series with a lot of the same top actors and the same great writers like Harlan Ellison who wrote City on the edge of forever. The animated series is a sleeper television show of all history
I’ll leave out the show I haven’t seen (Prodigy) and just give a top 10.
1) DS9: the show that effectively launched Serialized TV and proved you didn’t have to Trek anywhere to explore the true Final Frontier
2) TOS: a show that consistently overcame the limitations of 60s TV with its episodic story telling, by telling stories worth seeing, and effectively launched sci-fi into the mainstream
3) SNW: a return to Trek’s roots as an optimistic and fun storytelling medium, lead by a Captain I honestly can’t get enough of on screen
4) TNG: the show that struggled for three years to find its voice, began mixing episodic and serialized storytelling, presented some of the greatest Trek we could hope for to propel the franchise forward, but ultimately for me struggled to be a true ensemble show and devolved into just telling stories about Picard and Data and occasionally Worf, with the rest given what normally were fairly weak stories
5) Enterprise: unlike TNG it wasn’t given the chance to find its way after struggling for the first two years before giving us the Xindi in s3 and then finally getting to telling about the origin of the Federation in s4. The show gave me an entire cast of like able characters but struggled for too long with weak storytelling and the unfortunate sexploitation inherited from the success of 7 of 9 in her skin tight suits
6) Voyager: this show had the opposite issues of Enterprise for me, with normally strong stories over the course of 7 seasons, but a cast of characters that I didn’t like besides Janeway, or who struggled to ever create a consistent identity like Chakotay, and an unfortunate regression to a more TNG like episodic nature of storytelling for a show that screamed out to be more serialized in dealing with the struggles of returning home and integrating the Marquis into a Starfleet crew. Ronald Moore leaving this show to do exactly what this show should have been on Battlestar Galactica is why better stories weren’t enough to surpass Enterprise in my rankings
7) TAS: the advantages of giving us the fourth and fifth TOS seasons were bogged down by cost saving issues for the cast, and stories that were sometimes not up to the standards of TOS.
In all honesty, I much preferred the first two seasons of the show
9) LD: I do not like this show at all, it feels like someone had The Orville described to them, and decided to make Family Guy Trek, but missed out on all the great episodes of Orville and just heard the fart jokes
10) STD: I cannot stand this show at all, I forced myself to get through the end of s2 just because I love Pike that much, but this show just doesn’t work for me at all. Characters only delivering monologues, never having dialogues. Making every single thing the most dramatic thing you’ve ever seen, even just running a marathon, and stopping that for yet another dramatic monologue. Characters that I honestly dislike, not just don’t like. Just the absolute worst Trek ever for me
The proper ranking imo:
Star Trek: Voyager
Star Trek: DS9
Star Trek: TOS
Star Trek: TNG
Star Trek: Enterprise
All equal in their own ways…but Voyager season 5-7 was peak Trek.
Ugh that musical was insulting to our collective intelligence
@@garycannon4644 seeing the Klingons suffer made it all worth it. I laughed so hard I almost passed out.

Discovery just started off on the most awkward first step it possibly could. So tied to the past but also ignoring so much canon at the same time.
I really hated the camera work and lighting of Voyager. It looked so cheap.
Yeah I didn't understand this list. I've never watched anything from this channel before. I have no idea where the criteria comes from.
Me at the beginning of this video:
This will be a definitive list! oh boy!!
Me after the first 2 minutes of the video:
SOME OF THE PEOPLE DIDN'T EVEN WATCH ONE OF THE SERIES?!?!?
I have a challenge for you.
Rank the top Fan-Made star Trek Video Series.
There are a few, but some are more well known than the others!
I love "Star Trek Continues". Should have been on the list as a surprise entry.
I'm drot so nunk as some thinkle peep I am.
Another drinking game is to knock back a shot every time someone says "run a diagnostic."
Counselor, not Conselor- Michael McClary 😢
Did i miss Thursday's stream? Can't seem to find the stream or did it get taken down?
No, short story is, we both had to work a double and Brian was sick. We'll be back next week, thanks for thinking of us!
@@ThePopcastit's an addiction now... can't leave us hanging! 😂
I think that is a fair ranking.
For me (and I am in my 60s), 1st TOS, 2nd TNG, 3rd Enterprise, 4th Voyager, 5th DS9.
Am 60's also ... switch DSN ans TNG ... and I agree with ya. 😊
I nearly agree with this just swap Enterprise and TNG
It makes me sad that the animated series was ranked last. It was a great series. It’s sad that many people won’t give it a chance. I saw it when it aired. It makes me happy that STD is the lowest rated live action series. I rank TNG slightly ahead of TOS in my top 2
IKR. Gazelle Automations and their retro-made clips got a lot of love from the fandom.
It was something to sustain us thru the Star Trek dark ages of the 1970s.
well my number one is a tie, DS9 /Lower Decks, and i'll never re watch Voyager
1. Voyager (I connected with the entire crew the most and it is my most rewatched series)
2. The Next Generation (Data and Deanna Troi were the best characters for me)
3. Strange New Worlds (the best Star Trek series I've seen in years)
4. Picard Season 3 (Seasons 1 and 2 were so bad that I'm not including them on this list. Season 3 was a love letter to TNG fans)
5. Lower Decks (The biggest surprise for me. I hated the animation art style and the humor from the trailer, but when I gave this series a chance, I loved all the refences from previous Star Trek shows with Season 4 episode 1 being my most favourite episode because it's a Voyager centered episode)
6. The Original Series (Great crew, great cast, series did not age well)
7. Animated Series (Great to see the original cast come back and voice their characters)
8. Enterprise (Loved the music, didn't connect with any of the crew)
9. Deep Space Nine (My number most hated Star Trek alien race was always the Ferengi. Quark just made this series hard to watch for me.)
10. Discovery (didn't like the story)
11. Prodigy (the only series I haven't seen. I want to move it higher but I have no idea how to watch it now.)
I'm sure your #1 pick had nothing to do with you being Asian and the show containing "D grade" actor of Asian origin.
I LOVE Captain Pike. It hurts though knowing his future
Is any of this series connected to Kelvin timeline??
most of my favorite moments, characters, etc. are in DS9 and TNG so I guess I fall in with the majority.
Glad to see Enterprise in the top 3. It was very different when it first aired, but it really shines on streaming. Also glad to see Discovery dead last. I gave that show more chances than it deserved, but it only got worse. However, if Picard only had S1-S2 I'd definitely rank that below last.
I guess now you can do a definitive list of what was the best movies of Star Trek 🙂 . But I did enjoy this video. Keep up the good work
Ooh. Good challenge.
1. Wrath of Khan
2. Voyage Home
3. Undiscovered Country
4. First Contact
5. Search for Spock
6. Star Trek (2009)
7. The Motion Picture
8. Final Frontier
9. Nemesis
10. Beyond
11. Generations
12. Into Darkness
13. Insurrection
... tbh 10-13 I could juggle around order.
@@rhysholdaway I can go with your list. With the exception of one movie. The final frontier I think might have been the worst outside of the very first Star Trek. The motion picture really wasn't that good
@@kapttainK gotta confess Final Frontier is bit of a guilty pleasure, "What does God need with a starship?” and The Motion Picture can be a bit of a bore, although there is a fan edit of this floating on the interweb mixed with the soundtrack from Tron that's actually quite cool.
14:18 I need to drink some water with how much salt I just consumed. LOVE IT
😁😂
@@ThePopcast 100% can tell who made sure to get that line in the script hehehahe.
Great research vid, Doods 😁
I would love to see what interesting topics you could tackle doing a deep dive on DS9.
Please?!. 😁
You need a bud light ranking for the Star Trek Day video Paramount put out
How can DS9 not be number 1?
1- Voyager 😍
2- Deep Space Nine
3- Strange New Worlds
4- Next Generation
5- Prodigy
6- Lower Decks
DS9#1!
I was introduced into the Star Trek universe with Star Trek TNG and this has become my most loved show, after that Star Trek Voyager.
Oh and I also forgot, I thought that you said that you guys were going to do a video on captain Seven. Or something like that?
We did! A few videos ago we did our Star Trek Legacy report all about Seven and what's going on with that potential show.
@@ThePopcast damn. I must have missed it somehow. It's like sometimes I get the notifications and sometimes I don't. I guess. I'll try to find it. Thank you
I like that TOS, TNG, and DS9 were in the top 3. My personal list would be:
1. TOS(Started it all)
2. TNG
3.DS9
4. Voyager
5. Enterprise
6. Season 3 of Picard
The rest aren't even added since I've tried to watch Disco, SNW, Lower Decks, Picard Season 1 and developed an utter distaste for them.
Ds9 watched in order is the best
I know I'm being dim - but I couldn't work out what the "positions" in the list meant? Confused the hell out of me.
Still - nice video for reminiscing - and it must have taken AGES to get the "points" collated even if I didn't understand how that related to the order on the list 🤣
(* EDIT *) Just watched the last 2 minutes - NOW I understand 🤪
🤣
ds9s dominon war arce is my nr. 1 fav story arc maybe even best arc in any tv show i have ever seen.....and i have seen alot.
This list is ludicrous
