Dear Dick, you are a very brave man to stand near that brittle piece of Gum burl {not burr - that’s what you get from a three corner jack !}. Grain is lovely wavy feature. Well done.
🤣🤣🤣 thank you Peter! It’s a fun game we play with danger each time we turn, but I’m careful and well protected. Had to replace the switch twice before now, where different pieces have exploded a lump off - see one of my earlier videos ‘789’ you can see my knackered switch on end of the lathe bed - switch now up on the wall out the way - which is where I am when first starting a piece. Re Burl v Burr, we call a Burl a Burr in the UK, one of those oddities of English I guess 🤣 I’ll mention it in my next Burr video, just for you 😁

Got lucky with this one and it’s two sisters of similar size. Guy bought them years ago, varnished the tops to see what they’d look like and stashed them in his shed. Sold them to me for pennies of their worth! 😃😃😃😀
Beautiful work! I like the idea of the gold leafing, but to me it is too distracting. To tone it down a bit, I think I would have added an Antique Glaze. No matter, it is still a beautiful wall art. I also appreciate your wall mounting suggestions for stability. Thank You!
Thanks Bruce, totally get the gold being a bit much, I’m not a massive fan, but my partner is and whilst you and I aren’t fans, someone else will love it enough to buy it 😁😁😁 Well hopefully anyways 🤣
Admittedly it’s scary stuff, and there’s several moments that it’s tempting to lean forward to check the depth of cut when turning near the centre, but that would be a very bad idea! Anyways, press tummy or not?
At 10:40 I could finally breathe. I was holding my breath, that ghost turning was scaring me. But I really love the slow camera footage showing it. Such a skillful turner you are.
Thank you kindly Scott! I put this piece up at a show, the weekend just gone, and it got bought! Now I’ve gotta make another 1 or 2! 😮🤣🤣🤣 Shall I bother recording the making?
Great hanging art work. Really enjoy your videos this one especially. The gold set it off. So very informative the way you explain everything you do. You should turn some of our red gum its hard but fun and the colour is amazing. Yes press the button on little Dick. Keep the videos coming I look forward to them. Thanks for sharing. Cheers from 🇦🇺
Don't think so. We just call it river red gum. Scientific name. Eucalyptus Camaldulenss Very similar to the mallee burl you turned. Very hard and very heavy. Just made a huge deck out the back of my house out of red gum looks amazing. It's about 900kg per m3 Very nice deep red when polished. Cheers John

I’ll have to look him up - irritating, annoying, or okay to listen too? But to heavy for a shield 😁🤣🤣🤣 But I guess is the captain was handling it, it wouldn’t be a problem 😀
You did justice on that burl. Well done. Just some advice from an old turner and have the chuck jaws open no more than 14 mil when it grips the wood anything more than the mechanical advantage is losing.
