She really captivated my attention with her words, with her voice, and I cried at the end when she started to cry because she is soo happy and self confident and although I don´t know her I wish her all the best!! Lovely woman!
God doesn't make mistakes, she is exactly the way she's supposed to be, walking the path she's supposed to walk. I wish her all the happiness in the world and I know there's going to be a very lucky girl out there who'll have Melissa as her partner.
Sal Altschul please read your bible/torah and you will see that God does not mistakes and he is against homosexuality. Homosexual people are mistaken in their belief.
Homosexuality is found in all ethnic groups and in all time periods. I don't believe in a God who interferes in human affairs, it appears ludicrous to me. Even if you do believe in this God who intervenes in human affairs then this God must be happy to create homosexuals as well as heterosexuals.
This woman's community does not represent all Chassidic groups. In Lubavitch women are encouraged to learn Torah and are not suppressed in the ways this woman describes.
her story made me cry. Hasidic community hard to leave. Very difficult leaving that world. Malka you are a beautiful person. Live a life that makes you happy and fulfilled.
With all due respect, that’s unhelpful advice as the Torah explicitly tells us Jews to NOT “follow one’s heart ♥️”. And as Malka here IS a Jew and will forever remain one even unto her dying breath, the Torah governs her actions by its standards. She’s an abused person who’s sadly acting out in a self-destructive manner.
@@davidhoffman6595 I grew up in that world I know it to well…… so you don’t need to convince me of Jewish life . I am just lucky my family is still loving and accepted my life choices….. I’m still a good person with my tattoos and non kosher lifestyle . I don’t think going back would ever be an option even if it was life or death choice.
@@NickyRikki, that’s not how things work, though. Gd, via His Torah, set down the terms and limits of what’s both acceptable and unacceptable. Getting tattoos, for example, is explicitly a sign of rebellion against Gd. That’s not “my personal opinion”, those are the words of the Almighty. And because you’ve chosen to functionally say “F the Torah, F my ancestors, and F Gd Almighty Himself”, your prayers 🙏 shan’t be accepted, until you decide to do teshuva (repentance) for your transgressions. Not even all of the Yom Kippur services for the rest of your life that you might attend will cleanse you of your sins. I’m not saying this to be a jerk towards you, not at all. Look, I do get that the Chassidic community has far too many chumrot (stringencies). They HAVE gone off the rails in certain regards, no doubt about that. And THEIR behavior is totally unacceptable by the Torah’s standards, too. So please, I urge you to do teshuva meaningfully for your own sake. I’m not saying “go back to your community”, but you should actually find a decent orthodox rabbi and learn about what the Torah DOES and does NOT say. For example, Malka in the video above said that she was being forced into shaving off all her hair. That’s actually not what the oral law (which accompanies’ the written material) has to say. What it DOES say is that a married woman’s head hair ought to be covered. There are a variety of options for observant women to use to comply with this mandate. Hats 👒 come in various colors, styles, etc. Wigs 💇♀️ are also fashionable. And some ladies even like to wear kerchiefs of different patterns or styles as well. So as you see, there’s a differentiation between what the Torah says and what certain community leaders may have to say.
@@davidhoffman6595 that’s fine I don’t need to cover my head with anything ….. married or not. My body my choice. If men can’t control themselves that is their problem not mine or even my partners. Thank goodness I don’t live by the 613 commandments anymore. I am not bound by religious ideology because I don’t believe in a religious lifestyle. I don’t need a rabbi in my life to give me direction…. Again I left that misogynistic life style for a very good reason. But you are a man so you wouldn’t understand pressure of Jewish religious women at all…….How about you put on a wig if you care so much….. and let’s face it the wig is a huge lie…. I know many Rabbis completely against the wig as it total defeats it purpose of covering your head. But of course like my father used to say everyone has a Rabbi Noach… Rabbi Comfortable which they chose how to interpret and live by.
@@NickyRikki, clearly you’re uneducated about Judaism ✡️. I’m f you actually knew what the faith stood for and promoted, you’d not be using terms like “misogynistic”, etc. to disparage an entire group of people who are actually quite pro-female. Now, your particular situation in that particular community you were in was not a fair representation of what Judaism ✡️ actually is. Like many other groups, there are some more problematic sects. For example, Malka’s sect “required” married women to shave off their head hair, DESPITE what the law ACTUALLY says about the topic! Again: the law SAYS that married women only need to have some sort of covering for modesty purposes. That could be a hat 👒, a wig 💇♀️, or even a colorful kerchief. The Satmer Chassidim are an extremist group that doesn’t properly conform to Torah law as its been interpreted by Moshe Rabbeinu 3,334 years ago.
I am Reform Jewish, meaning there are things my community does which are more modernized compared to the traditional things the Ultra Orthodox do. I have read about and seen so many documentaries and autobiographies about people leaving the Hasidic community. My heart goes out to those people leaving the community, and I wake up everyday so thankful that I was not born into the same position as them. My family would not care if I questioned how things were done in our religion, or if I was a part of the LGBTQ community. My family wants me to be happy. It makes me happy that our view of Judaism focuses on acceptance and wanting to do the right things so we can be happy.
Hi Malky. I’m a baal teshuva man and after living a secular life, in my 40’s, I found my way to a Torah life. I’m so sorry you got traumatized in your community. I’m glad you are healing and expressing yourself and I pray that one day you can come back to Torah in a way that feels right for you. Many blessings from California.
Cole James I watch a lot of the interviews and documentaries too. I’m from a more secular Jewish denomination called Reform, we are basically the complete opposite of the Hasidic. Women don’t wear wigs, we wear modern clothes, eat whatever we want, we don’t abstain from touching during our menstrual cycles, a lot of things that greatly differ from the Hasidic. One of the things I have grasped from the documentaries, interviews and even autobiographies I’ve read about the community is appreciation for my denomination and my family, because we are accepting of questioning our laws, and the lgbtq community. It makes me feel relief that I am allowed to question and I don’t have to worry about getting married at a young age or who I marry, I just need to focus on being happy and successful, and my family is my support group. I wish there were families in the Hasidic community who were like that but most of the time that’s not possible.
A rational person can't be in denial of something they know nothing about. And you obviously can't know "all" of Judaism. Therefore, you're either an ignorant bigot or lacking rationality.
1. You're starting to lack any sanity in your replies. The issue of Amalek, as I mentioned several times, has nothing to do with them being "goy". Funny how you leave out the part that Amalek was the first nation to attack the Jews, when theyhad just left slavery and entered the dessert, and Amalek killed without provocation the weakest lagging at the rear. 2. Also funny how you omit the plethora of pessages commanding Jews to "love the sojouner for you were so sojouners in Egypt" or "to respect the elderly (regardless of nationhood) or "to not close one's hand to the poor" or how they respected the requests of Edom, Ammon, etc., and did not trespass their land without persmission, etc., etc. 3) Of course, anyone who tells you to study the text in the original language rather than relying on incorrect "excerpts" from racist websites is engaged in propaganda LOL. 4) You use the name "Shabiha Assad" so I thought you may actually be interested in abiding by the Quran. Now I see you prefer to listen to White Nationalists and Nazis than your own Quran ("Assad").
REgarding your first point, open any diluted literal childish translation into English translation and provide direct quote from the correct version of the Amalek incident which does not state that Amalek attacked in an unprovoked manner the band of slaves, hitting them from behind. I guess you are so into Amalek, because based on your bigotry and hatred, you are from the roots Amalek. You are not interested in truth. You are too consumed by hate to seek the Creator and truth.
I am not Jewish let alone Ultra-Orthodox but I can only imagine how difficult it is to leave everything familiar to you both in your daily activities but also in your spiritual world. I hope she continues to find her new path.
Just so people know, she passed away from a heroin overdose in the summer of 2017... this is an awful sad story, this lost young girl needed Hashem, and she really needed love and support. Love goes to her family, and may her neshama be blessed..

Whoever the girl is...you're well spoken and obviously very thoughtful. This happens to be a horrific chillul Hashem and you know better if not for yourself than for the rest of us wearing kippahs and Sheitals everyday. You also failed to inform the masses that the vast majority of orthodox Jewry does not shave their heads or have arranged marriages. It's only a small part of chasidus. If you're reading this...please respond and for my sake, as an orthodox make who dated his wife and fell in love with her and asked her to marry me, tell everyone the truth here about this being just a small sect of Judaism with strange customs
Noah Dinerstein - I'm Jewish and can confirm that just a small sect lives the way she was raised. I would assume most people know that, but then again there are a lot of people in some areas if the country who have never met anyone Jewish.
Noah Dinerstein This filthy world wants to see women and men naked and living a sin full life . They are vultures looking for dying people. I pray to Almighty to forgive our sister and show her right path Please dear if you read my comment talk to other Jews first and start living with dignity and respect... leave this life which has to values .
Hi, I'm orthodox thank Gd. There is nothing wrong with the way Chassidish live. Those customs work for them and they are happy. I have so many chassidish friends and they are loudspoken, proud, giving, respectful women. Whatever way someone chooses to serve Gd is beautiful for them as long as it works for them. Thank you for your comment. I pray that Malki can realize the beauty of being Jewish and orthodox.
No matter if you are an ultraortodox Jew or a moslim or a Hindu or a Christian, lesbian or straight or homosexual or whatever, one day we ALL have to stand in the front of the judgment throne of God, because there is a God and His Name is Jesus. And He called us to be HOLY, no matter what background we are from.Repent from sin, give your life to Jesus and let Him make you holy as you walk with him DAILY.
i think about this video all the time... the catharsis of seeing her cry when she gets her new haircut... this video means so much to me... it's hard to explain but it is so powerful
She lived a very extreme lifestyle that doesn't mean that she has to choose the opposite extreme. There are other sects of Judiasm that are less limiting. Most Orthodox Jews do not shave their heads. Only Chassidim do and that's only some Chassidim. In fact I believe that the Gemara says that a bald woman is ugly. I believe the custom of shaving ones head started because their was once a non-Jewish king who wanted to be with all the brides before they were with their husbands for the first time in order to prevent this the woman shaved their heads so that the king became disgusted and didn't want to be with them. But now that it's not a problem shaving is unnecessary. A married woman can just cover her hair In public and keep her beautiful hair for herself and her husband. Other woman can see it as well as well as her children. Also most Jews date and choose their spouse they do not have arramged marriages.
As beautiful and lucky and courageous as she is, you really have to feel for how scared and alone she must really feel - all those emotions expressed, being on the verge of breaking down even in her happiest and most liberating moments... she really does miss having a family or at least the warmth of a community like the one she was a part of and isn't sure if she'll find something to offer that closeness, as isolating as it was.
I think she is so beautiful, striking, intelligent and self aware- a woman like Melissa is destined for success and happiness. She's already achieved so much.
With other words, she have not to think about the consequences of her behave and also she have not honest to think about why she got a lesbian and where the reasons are. Thats what the devil is always telling the people "do what you want to do ( and dont think about why...)"... even if the earth is burning behind her.
She is so beautiful with BOTH haircuts! Very courageous. Thank you for bravely telling your story! Best of luck with your journey. Glad Footsteps exists to assist
Do not follow the steps of Satan, for he is your most ardent enemy. ... [Quran 50:27]........ And "Surely Satan is an enemy to you, so take(treat) him as an enemy. He only invites his(followers) that they may become the dwellers of the blazing Fire.” (35:6)....Will you then take him (Satan)and his offspring as protectors and helpers rather than Me while they are enemies to you What an evil is the exchange for the(polytheists, and wrongdoers, etc).”............ (18:50)Every act of disobedience to Allah is among the footsteps of Satan...............Allah says:“He (Satan) commands you only what is evil and Fahsha (sinful), and that you should say about Allah what you know not.” (2:169)
frankly the way religions (and / or men) treat women is baffling. Which sane person would want to marry any man or be part of any movement that treats them so badly and be forced to give birth to yet another generation of men who will treat the next generation of women as badly as the previous one ... religions and men will, at one point, change their discourse and behaviour because we really have had it with how we are treated in whatever name ..
they're brainwashed and isolated from the rest of the world, and when you can mostly go with the flow, you can convince yourself that you're happy because that's where your family and sense of belonging is. but when people realize they can't draw comfort from the most intimate of relationships, then they are more prone to start questioning the entire construct that they're living in, and eventually gain the courage and commitment to break out of it.
As a proud Jew that originates from Soviet union Russia where we were not allowed to observe our religeon but did so in secret w sacrifice, I'm really amazed (not in a good way) how here in America theres freedom of religeon n this is how these types of "jews" act....these" jews" probably have the roots of German nazis, I mean look at their eye color the physiological n psychological aspects dont add up to a Real JEW, such as myself! U should be proud ur a jew how come arabs dont say they feel suffocated? U were never born a jew, ur ancestors are probably German n therefore u feel suffocated! A real jew will never ever go on national TV disgrace her religeon like that. The least u should do if it's that bad to u is have the decency to leave a stay quiet not publicize it like Judaism is bad....yes to be a Jew is hard work but to be a prince or princess is no easy task either so u chose your title n took ur crown off like ariana grande says "thank u next"! Ur loss.

Proud of you! Keep living your best life.
You are so brave! Also, you are one of the most gorgeous people I have ever seen. I hope your life is going well!
When I had short hair, people thought I was a lesbian, Im not.
It is so sad that some people have to hide who they are. We get one life, and if you can't live who you are, life is like a prison.
She is so beautiful. I am sad she had to endure this...
Noah Dinerstein
This filthy world wants to see women and men naked and living a sin full life . They are vultures looking for dying people.
I pray to Almighty to forgive our sister and show her right path
Please dear if you read my comment talk to other Jews first and start living with dignity and respect... leave this life which has to values .
*****
Dear why not ?
*****
Wasn't she married to a gentleman?
Hi, I'm orthodox thank Gd. There is nothing wrong with the way Chassidish live. Those customs work for them and they are happy. I have so many chassidish friends and they are loudspoken, proud, giving, respectful women. Whatever way someone chooses to serve Gd is beautiful for them as long as it works for them. Thank you for your comment. I pray that Malki can realize the beauty of being Jewish and orthodox.
Very very masculine you can feel the strength
She looks like a 90s mode very pretty
That hairstyle suits her so well
all i hear is alot rambling. n lack of common sense
When she spoke about the first time she heard the word lesbian I fully connected, I've never seen someone else have the same experience as me
No matter if you are an ultraortodox Jew or a moslim or a Hindu or a Christian, lesbian or straight or homosexual or whatever, one day we ALL have to stand in the front of the judgment throne of God, because there is a God and His Name is Jesus. And He called us to be HOLY, no matter what background we are from.Repent from sin, give your life to Jesus and let Him make you holy as you walk with him DAILY.
Nah fam
i think about this video all the time... the catharsis of seeing her cry when she gets her new haircut... this video means so much to me... it's hard to explain but it is so powerful
Love her haircut!
Also most Jews date and choose their spouse they do not have arramged marriages.
gila suliman she is a lesbian !!!!
Lesbian or not, this is one awesome woman
I think she is so beautiful, striking, intelligent and self aware- a woman like Melissa is destined for success and happiness.
She's already achieved so much.
beautiful piece. thanks for sharing!
Wow! beautiful, intelligent, articulate woman. Good luck! ! xx
Then, be like she...
@@attilaszabo2866 I try.
you are a spiritual woman - your glowing eyes teach that G-d exists. You are a joyful soul and keep smiling to the life…

Jews dont belive in the old greeks:-(
She’s so lost and confused
good for you that you got free!
Bar Talmay
"Got free"
do you think Hassidic life is slavery?
Zenodotus Of Athens I m jewish..how dare you?
Bar Talmay
What in the he'll are you talking about?
What do you mean: "How dare you?"
she is a beautyful human been, she is free to do what ever she wants, good for her.
With other words, she have not to think about the consequences of her behave and also she have not honest to think about why she got a lesbian and where the reasons are. Thats what the devil is always telling the people "do what you want to do ( and dont think about why...)"... even if the earth is burning behind her.
Yes! Good for her living her truth
@@loveisallyouneed5877 Don't be so serious. There is no devil. It was only created to reign ppl in.
She Is Gorgeous! God bless her.
She is your style...
She is so beautiful with BOTH haircuts! Very courageous. Thank you for bravely telling your story! Best of luck with your journey. Glad Footsteps exists to assist
Love the new hairstyle 👍
This story is depressing in so many ways. What is wrong with just "don't ask, don't tell???"
Sooooo pretty!
She is super brave in so ortodox community
Now its bad to be a man or a woman? Whats the sense behind this? I don't get it!
omg she is sooo beautiful 💜💜💜
this is sooo stupid opinion.
SO lovely ! I'm glad she was able to come to terms with who is and is happy ! I hope she can find complete peace :)
lol when she said"I cannot rule out half of the population"that was so generous ..
She's beautiful!
Who told you that being lesbian was an excuse for not keeping shabbos or eating not kosher ? Homosexuality is forbidden by Men not for women
Wow, this women is beautiful, glad she’s out and living her life now, is she an actress or model.
Which sane person would want to marry any man or be part of any movement that treats them so badly and be forced to give birth to yet another generation of men who will treat the next generation of women as badly as the previous one ... religions and men will, at one point, change their discourse and behaviour because we really have had it with how we are treated in whatever name ..
they're brainwashed and isolated from the rest of the world, and when you can mostly go with the flow, you can convince yourself that you're happy because that's where your family and sense of belonging is. but when people realize they can't draw comfort from the most intimate of relationships, then they are more prone to start questioning the entire construct that they're living in, and eventually gain the courage and commitment to break out of it.
a true individualist.
That cut suits her!
Young Lady Remember there is a GOD and he loves us ALL no matter what. Thank you for your
story.
GOD is her father and loves it if she would tell him the truth....
Embrace your friend, instead of your identity.
When Malky cried, I cried. How wonderful to finally be able to be yourself
Which chassidus did you belong to? And if you did not get along with your husband, why did you have to abandon Judaism?
She is a lesbian. Not sure if that's compatible
very honest. beautiful.
Wooooow. Such production values; the piano...the camera angles...the lighting...the staging...the make-up! I feel soooo sympathetic I could PLOTZ!!
Ur loss.
Have you ever heard such nonsense? She might act masculine but she's still feminine. These are social constructs that get into our heads as young people are reinforced by everything we read and see. More important, does she have a job? How did she understand what a lesbian is?
What stupid question is this
@@oblongfan1 I didn't realize they were trick questions.
Two beautiul lesbians are alot sexier than two gays even though people say lesbians hate men. When you picture them together.
i was shivering all the time of this video. she is such a beautiful human
I wish her well but bottom line she needs some intense therapy!
Nope. She is fine the way she is. She doesn't need some ridiculous book of superstitions
Wtf . You’re the one who clearly needs therapy
I understand you. But.. boro park is more than 20 blocks. And why are the photos mostly Williamsburg if you are talking about where you grew up, which is Boro Park.
Who hurt the woman like this, that she cut off her beautiful hair? So sad.
Cutting off hair isn’t all always sad. It’s liberating
My friend ex lesbian is now a Hasidic Jewish.
She’s right about the hair!
Bless you ...
A fellow tomboy is born! :D This girl looks AWESOME! She truly became herself!
Am I making a mistake that she looks a little bit like lizzy caplan? Or she really does?..
She rockin that hairdoo
courageous, intelligent, confident and beautiful. all the best !
A free soul trapped finds it way to the light
rodney gentry nobody is trapped man. If only you knew how much free choice there is in Judaism
2:28 - same question I ask myself everyday
SHE IS CONFUSED! SHE DOES NOT CUT HER HAIR WHEN SHE IS SUPPOSED TO. THEN SHE CUTS IT WHEN SHE DOESNT HAVE TO. SHE'S CONFUSED
Sounds like you are not her
Oh my god she's beautiful!! I could drown in those eyes! 💖💖💖
No doubt she is one confused soul. May she one day return to normalcy.
I'm sorry but, the music is quite distracting.
Great, really I'm happy for her. Could you report on the content of the DNC Wikileaks and the implications for the Democratic Party? Also, people are dying in terrorist attacks on a daily basis.
