- In August 2022, Talia Avrahami was living a normal life as an Orthodox Jewish teacher in New York City with her husband and daughter.

This is an interesting combination you wouldn’t expect. I’m kind of fascinated by folks who insist on existing in traditions and spaces that don’t want them.
The school removed them because of conservative backlash and she found rabbis who support her so I'm not sure where you came up with "not wanted."

While anyone can declare themselves a “Rabbi,” can you provide the name of an orthodox-recognized rabbi who would approve a transgender person as a teacher in a traditional school? It’s doubtful.

Words, labels, beliefs, identities, they don't mean anything anymore. You feel like you want to be something? It doesn't matter what defines such an identity or group, just claim to be part of it and demand to be taken seriously, no matter your own traits, beliefs or context. There is no such thing as objectivity anymore. There is no such thing as structure, and truth itself is on the way out. Just make it up. I'm not sure if the way the world is going is somewhere we can come back from. I'm not sure if those pushing it the most are thinking about where they are pushing it. There's no guarantee that the world will withstand just anything.
Excellent comment, although I resepctfully disagree w/ your claim that "there is no objectivity anymore." There IS, and there always will be, irrespective of whether or not society even allows people to be calling it that. Objectivity is whatever stubborn reality prevales in the face of what's popular, or even socially permitted.

If being conservative means living in reality then most people on the planet are conservative then.
It doesn't. Gross assumption. Being conservative means you fundamentally proffer self interest over social interest. To conserve ones status quo over the status of the social demographic. It is a self referencing tribe that protects its own first. Hence the greed and anger synonymous with its members. So, yes, most are conservative as most people are concerned with their own success and fear of the other. I am not.

"I don't want to be a spokeswoman - I want to be known for my research. I want to be known for my teaching." This is the burden of anyone who has been discriminated against and spoke out. Talia has accepted this burden so that someone like her in 10 or 20 or 50 years can just be known for their research or their teaching - or simply left alone. For that reason we in the Orthodox community are so fortunate to have Talia and Bradley in our midst.

My daughter is 18 with 2 mums but she knows/sees her bio dad because knowing where you came from/who you look like/ who carried you in their body for 9 months matters to all children

So, by showing footage of Williamsburg, NY, these filmmakers are trying to reinforce the idea that this individual is trying to create that aura of cultural identity 😀

Had Judaism been more accepting of homosexuality would this person have transitioned. Interesting that the only route they saw to be a true version of themselves was to move the orthodox tradition as neither accepted homosexuality but orthodox was open to trans.
The two things are not connected. Sexual preference does not dictate your gender.

Nah. Please factor in that the subject misspoke (unintentionally, I'm pretty sure). She most likely meant to say that Orthodox Judaism takes some Bible verses to mean certain acts are forbidden, and a lot of Orthodox people FREAK OUT at gay people because they are inflamed by community leaders to do so. That's a PEOPLE thing, not a law thing. "Bad on them" (the people who can't accept Jews for who they are). "Bad" on the leaders for not promoting love of all Jews. Some people in separatist Orthodox communities are taught not to challenge the rabbis, not to think for themselves about stuff like this. I'm Orthodox and trans, and don't believe that the Orthodox world is more accepting to trans people. But whoever one is, it's probably best to just fit in the with rest of an Orthodox congregation. BE gay, don't HIDE, but don't advertise either. That'd be the same any Orthodox synagogue would ask of anyone. Be Jewish in synagogue. If you're a parent, be a parent; if you're a doctor be a doctor. :). If you have a partner who is also inclined to go to the synagogue with you, YOUR PARTNER SHOULD COME WITH YOU. If the synagogue makes a (bad) fuss, that's on the synagogue, not on Judaism (especially the more contemporary strains of Orthodoxy).

So well done. As I often say, we have come miles but/and have many more to go. We are all and each one of us exactly as G-d made us and intended us to be. Talia and Bradley, this is absolutely beautiful as well as haunting in terms of "where we are not yet" in our knowledge, acceptance and understanding of the MOST FOUNDATIONAL elements of Jewish and Halachic being. Every human being is made in the image of G-d, as we learn and ANYONE who maligns or embarrasses or harms one of G-d's beloved and created beings is harming and hurting G-d. It is a privilege to know you and I wish all good things for you. And for the record, in terms of some of these comments, two points of clarification. One -- gender identity is NOT the same as sexuality identity/inclination. Two -- who we are and what we are is NOT the same as what we do... feel blessed if all of your identity points matches and feel thankful that medicine allows more of us to reach that point where they do. I always thought the essence of religion would be destroyed by rationality. It looks like irrationality might beat us to it.

@@himacho8771 On the contrary, this child seems to have been made to order for the homosexual male couple. Egg donorship and surrogacy were ordered by the two homosexual men. The egg donor and surrogate could be the same person or a different person. This case is not at all a case of a child being an orphan due to an entire family being unable to care for her. No father, no mother, no grandmothers, grandfathers aunts or uncles. This is instead about homosexual men using egg donors and surrogates and therefor causing a child to not be raised by her biological mother. It appears that adoption paperwork is needed in some jurisdictions to change legal ownership of the child from the surrogate and her husband if she is married to the two homosexual men who ordered the egg donorship and surrogacy services from the woman or women.

From video I believe she was fired for no reason other than some parents disagree with a transgender teacher or person. Her account, didnt say the reason was she disobeyd school policy or inncorrect teaching of syllabus or discussing her personal politics, gender beliefs. How would you feel if you were fired when you did nothing wrong and concerned could be again? That's relevant for everyone.
Video title says fighting for acceptance, that doesn't mean someone needs to agree or like. Just that they are allowed to exist with the same rights as everyone else and be treated as such.

I'm born a man. Biologically, i have testosterone. I have every biological trait of a male. I have no idea how it feels to be a woman. I haven't got the makeup of a woman, which puts in a lot of the order of how she thinks and feels. I don't understand the logic of a man "feeling" like a woman inside. I've heard the arguments of the modern doctrine of the universities, and I've yet to hear of one that makes any scientific or psychological sense. If i can change my gender, then i can change my race, i can change my species...it can go on and on. It has gone far enough. I'm old enough to have seen its progression move exponentially.
