- Bout official on December 30, 1970.
"Fight of the Century" was the promotional nickname given to this first match between champion Joe Frazier (26-0, 23 KOs) and challenger Muhammad Ali (31-0, 26 KOs), held on March 8, 1971 at New York's Madison Square Garden.
The term "Fight of the Century" had been used three times before. [1]
Both Ali and Frazier are in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Unofficial AP scorecard: 9-5-1 Frazier.
Unofficial UPI scorecard: 7-7-1 Draw.
According to referee Arthur Mercante, the following conversation took place in the ring:
"You know, you're in here with the God tonight" - Ali's attempt to psyche out Frazier
"If you are God, you're in the wrong place tonight" - Frazier's reply
Each man was guaranteed $2.5 million dollars, the largest single payday for any entertainer or athlete at the time. Tickets to the Garden would be made available to the general public by mail on a first come first served basis. Prices in the arena ranged from $20 for a balcony seat to $150 for ringside. Hundreds of other locations throughout the U.S. and Canada would screen the fight via closed circuit television to fans paying $5 to $15.

Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use
Fair use
Additionally, the fair use defense to copyright infringement was codified for the first time in section 107 of the 1976 Act. Fair use was not a novel proposition in 1976, however, as federal courts had been using a common law form of the doctrine since the 1840s (an English version of fair use appeared much earlier). The Act codified this common law doctrine with little modification. Under section 107, the fair use of a copyrighted work is not copyright infringement, even if such use technically violates section 106. While fair use explicitly applies to use of copyrighted work for criticism, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research purposes, the defense is not limited to these areas. The Act gives four factors to be considered to determine whether a particular use is a fair use: the purpose and character of the use (commercial or educational, transformative or reproductive); the nature of the copyrighted work (fictional or factual, the degree of creativity); the amount and substantiality of the portion of the original work used; and the effect of the use upon the market (or potential market) for the original work. - กีฬา
Fighters today aren't built to fight like this
Much love and respect to two of our great champions who are no longer with us! RIP gentleman! We miss you both very much 🙏🏽🙏🏽
The 3 fights between these guys were the best fights of all time.
Those left hooks and bodywork was devastating. Frazier had relentless determination and an unwavering will to win. That bodywork definitely slowed Ali down. As much trash as Ali talked he always wanted to win

😂 thank you appreciate the support always 🙋
Best example not to underestimate anyone😮
How the hell does Ali get up from that left hook in the 15th coupled with the fatigue and battering they both took? Incredible for both of them. 15 rounds is absolutely insane.
Frazier's finest moment!!!!!!
Grandiosa pelea
Saw it in TV in 197x. Grandma woke me up. In Germany it was about 3:00 or so am.
I remember watching this fight as a 13 y.o. I gained huge respect for both men, especially Ali for the way he handled the defeat with such good grace.
Great video. 👍👍
What grace? Ali claimed Frazier got the decision because they were white and Frazier was the white man's champion.

Watch his post fight interview, he was modest and humble.
The scoring was suspect, one judge scored 11 rounds to Frazier, but he didn't make a big thing of it.
@jeremymanning2132 Ali, no question won that fight
@@stanleyadams2046 Get your ho.. head out of his dead bla.. a..
@@stanleyadams2046 it was not a one sided whooping, but ali was the loser on this fight
Regardless of the opening rd or so, Ali was strictly an arm-puncher. Frazier threw from the floor---all his left hooks hurt. The TV anchors called it for Ali, but in the end justice prevailed & Ali went down hard. The later fights were only for money. Great post!
Even after the first fight that arm puncher put Frazier in the hospital for a long time. That arm puncher put invincible George Foreman on the canvas. Fighters especially the great ones usually fight more than once. That's how they make a living they are prizefighters.
Joe Frazier is very fortunate that he never had to face the Ali that fought Liston. It would have been embarrassing for Joe who did compete well against a slower Ali. Even in that case Ali won 2 out of the 3 fights.
Anyone who wants to measure the difference between Ali and Frazier watch what happened when both Ali fought Foreman and when Frazier fought Foreman.
Joe was a great champion. Someone else put it best without Ali there probably wouldn't have been a Frazier, without Frazier there still would have been an Ali.
All of this being said Joe was a great champion in his own right. As much heart as anyone who ever competed in any sport.
In their subsequent fights, Frazier never shook Ali again. With his legs and wind back, he withstood Frazier's best, especially in the third fight.
@mandolindleyroadshow706 Yes, great analysis thank you.
@@gregoryphillips3969Twice they changed boxing gloves cause of Ali: Laceless gloves so Ali couldn't rake 'em inside, thumbless gloves so Ali couldn't gouge eyes. They doped Foreman in Zaire & only let Norman Mailer cover it as press corps. Dundee cut Ali's glove to save him from the British champ's KO left hook...Ali rested as they put on a new glove. It began as wired jaws, tricks, & dancing away; it ended as suffling, steroids,TV, & incessant hype. "The Greatest"...at what? Making money... (RIP).

Los 2 mejores de la historia
Excellent
No logro ver qué tan bueno era ali. Era más bulto que los que pegaba. Mira que palisa le dieron
Sin duda grandes boxeadores sus peleas eran monumentales , Ali y Frazier EPD descansen
As a great fan of Ali, Frazier earned my respect. Great fight but Frazier took this one. I think Ali was surprised how good he was.
Ali was always the greatest ❤️
Best left hook ever Smokin Joe Fraizer…
Tenía 5 años y mi papá nos despertó tipo 3.30 de la mañana a ver esta pelea q lindos recuerdos con mi viejo😂😂😂😂
Muhammad Ali The Real Fighter ❤
Unforgettable mach of the boxing world.
On a 10 point must system, i scored the bout 143-141 for Frazier. The 11th and 15th were 2 point rounds, and were the difference that won it for the champion.
l scored the 11 a 10-7 actually, not only a knockdown, but a massive beating which honestly looked like ali got saved by the ropes and later the bell
@@kakashihatake6176You have your rounds confused. The knockdown was in the 15th, Ali got shook and reeled about the ring in Round 11. Both 10-8 rounds. I guess you can deduct an extra points because you hate Ali, but that's your issue.
@@mandolindleyroadshow706 l don't hate ali at all, l believe he is the greatest heavyweight! but that ref was blind as a bat, look at the beginning of round 11, that was no slip, frazier connected a hard punch and ali feel immediatetly afterwards, but for some reason the ref counted as a slip
@@kakashihatake6176 Ali didn't fall "immediately," there was a delay which is why it was called a slip. It may well have been a knockdown, but there was enough doubt that the on scene announcer, Don Dunphy, didn't question it, nor did the crowd boo the call. Today viewers have the advantage of repeat viewings gauge what ref, Arthur Mercante, had to determine in a couple of seconds. Also Ali got up like he hadn't been hurt, so he sold it. Had Ali taken a couple more seconds to rise Mercante would have probably made a different call. Besides, Ali really took it on the chin late in the round.
@@mandolindleyroadshow706 well, l also got confused about why no one thought that punch was a knockdown, the delay wasn't a long one, maybe half a second, even with their feet being close l really have a hard time believing that he would have slipped if it wasn't for that strike, it does not help that despite throwing some quick punches afterwards he looked a bit off and dizzy even before receiving the starring blows, didn't fact checked but apparently according to his book, that punch was at that point the hardedt one he ever received
But he is a monster, taking such blows and taking that beautiful hook on the fifteen and casually getting up, at least we can agree that, knockdown or not, that 11 round was a 10-8
Legendarni Mohamed Ali
مااريد اشوف محمد علي ينصرب
A fight not boxing check the endurance from both guys
Ali won this fight 11 to 4
I watched this fight 8 time
❤ Allah Akbar ❤Allah Akbar ❤Allah bless M.Ali..😢😢😢 Really Great Man in the world 😢😢😢missing. M.ALI...
😂😂😂
So you are going by religion and not performance, this why I dislike your religion too much.
Joe is always kneeling down and saving his face.Ali is very straight
The very 1st Ali met a man with a forward machine gear and no stepping backwards on front of ali for 15 rounds it's like hell but still Ali connecting a couple of follow up punches as his trade mark also Ali stamina begin to decline losing also to Norton Ali dancing technique always his great weapon no man can land a punch well when he's dancing scoring punches by ali
Frazier ,,Ali. Heeft deze wedstrijd verloren over 15 Ronden 🎉
i love Mohammed Ali, myck tyson, laila ali
Great shots by both but all I can say is Frazier was lucky Ali didn't have Foreman's power or he would have been on the floor early
7:17 😂
Those three years cost ali
Mohamed ali is the greatest of all time
Noo
Ali was the best fighter that Frazier faced to date. At 205lbs JF was much faster than the Joe who fought In Manila, he also had better power to weight ratio in this fight. As Joe Frazier’s competition improved throughout his career he faced the following realities which was a significant height disadvantage (4”) and a reach disadvantage (5.5”). A fighter with Ali’s boxing skill would be able to punish Frazier from a distance. Also, Frazier’s unwillingness to use his Right hand effectively allowed for an easier fight plan. What won this fight for Frazier was his will to win. On a few occasions we tried to imagine taking this version of JF and stretching him out to 6’ 3” with an 80” reach.
Omg Frazier at 6,3 and a 80 reach with the same style and overall willpower , my god 💀
Three years absent cost Ali
@@AnthonyRobinson-dc3pq Leading up to the Fraser fight he had to warm up fights. He fought Jerry Quarry, a fight which went three rounds and Oscar Bonavena which went 15 rounds. Are you saying he needed a third flight or a 4th going into the Fraser fight?
@@bgjb-r1499 Frazier I better than them guys u just mentioned u can't be gone three prime years and come back and expect to beat a active smoking Joe Frazier
@@AnthonyRobinson-dc3pqAli haters and Frazier fans will never get it. He basically lost his legs from 3.5 years of being absent. This is what all the experts said upon his comeback including Ali's own camp. Nobody ever has made comeback with 100% skills & performance even if they were gone for just 1 year. Let alone 3.5 years.
Rounds 11 & 12 were epic. What a fight....
Tyson 10× faster than Frazier. Imagine what he'd do
Tyson wouldn't take the punishment that joe Frazier took .. Ali wasn't even prime //Tyson wouldn't do a thing
Those two fighters had nothing similar, frazier had better bob and weaving skills, better inside fight, better chin and better stamina, floyd patterson would be a better comparation
Chin like Frazier
Joe is hitting Ali all over body
Smokin joe❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Unu a fost Joe fraezer
No offense, but Ollie just holds the whole time. Doesn’t look like he’s trying to box like Fraser is.
L'âge d'or de la boxe est incontestablement la décennie 70. Tous ces grands champions sont décédés mlhrsmt, à l'exception de George Foreman.
La capacit pe ali
Ali apanhou D+
Ali en frazier
Joe Frazir ilmu seruduk
Jbm 118, well and very correctly said, ali catches, holds and dances away ,he won almost all his fights that way, no sincere and honest referee would have allowed àli to do this ,this does not qualify him as the greatest .
Ali didn't do half as much clinching here as in the second, and dancing and hitting s not illegal, is called being an outpointer, and a powerful one since he koed 26 of 31 opponents before his first lost
Most unfair judgment ever issued in a boxing fight.
How so? Ali clearly lost
Ali was extrwnely oveerated fake legend made by the media
😂
Ali should have been disqualified, truly a blind and corrupt referee.
الله اکبرالله اکبالله اکبرالله اکبرالله اکب
Ali was gone too long
Watch Ali holding behind the neck,he did that in almost all his fights, unlike the greats Joe Louis, and Marciano, that cheap style does not belong to the greatest.
Bruh most fighters do the clinching, holyfield, joe louis in some clips, george foreman did alot of pushing...
Ali would have beaten joe louis at any era, and would have beaten rocky marciano, marciano thought the same
Plus...marciano is overrated as fuck, dude basically beated no one great at their prime
Muhammad ali yg ceroboh
