Ali won. That flurry in the last round when Ali was exhausted shows his heart and grit.
Unbelievable that the very same Clay/Ali completely beat the shit out of Liston just a year later, then again after yet a year. Either Doug Jones was a fantastic fighter back then or that Ali improved so much in just a year. Maybe a combination of both...
Yes maybe a bit of both ...but styles make fights. Geo Foreman made a mess of both frazier (twice) and norton but ali, who struggled v these two, made a mess of foreman
Clay could be too cocky at times. He got decked by Jones immediately and he got decked by Henry Cooper later in 1963. But he’s not too cocky when fought Liston, he respected Liston and rested his crushing power. I think Liston lay down in that second fight. But the first one was legitimate. Totally.
@@syourke3 ...TH-cam watcher.
sony threw the fights. he didn't wannt to be kiled by the boxinng mafia. they got him in the end.
@@frereanaktom99 the fight was investigated and there isn't any evidence that he took a dive, so much so that he got up in the second bout
🗣️ - I really like watching Muhammad Ali in this fight. He is 10lbs lighter than he was for the first Liston fight. ... By comparing these two fights you can see the growth in Muhammad Ali's boxing skills... In less than a year, Muhammad Ali would be the Champ 🏆... At the age of 22 years old. ... RIP Muhammad Ali - The Greatest!
Hardly the greatest but he was a great fighter.
Jones was a good boxer
Jones was 21-3 at the time, a very good journeyman heavyweight fighter. He gave Ali (Clay at the time) a tough fight.
Pocas Veces he Visto Rivales que le han Parado el Macho a Muhamad Ali.Ese Dug Jones fue un Digno Rival.😊😊😊😊😊.
1963 media, "A boy of great stamina."
Looked like an exhibition fight.
Doug Jones can take a punch !
Old but gold🧐
Os primeiros passos de uma grande linda
A friend of mine saw the fight live and thought Jones won.
I thought the same but then somebody woke me up!
@Georgesember9069 ...Ali won, fair and square, PERIOD!!!
Your friend was wrong.
@@danielhkhk7283 He friend is legally blind.
Doug Jones was a handful. He deserved a rematch.
Clay the greatest still in the making here. This Jones gave Clay a tougher fight than Liston.
Jones was in his prime at age 26...Who knows how old Liston was? 35-39 maybe. The 26 yo Liston likely would have crushed this young, 202lb Clay.
@@curbozerboomer1773 yeah excuses for Liston don't work, he was the champion and nobody gave cassius a chance. We saw a much younger George foreman lose to Ali who was less than 50 percent of what he was when he first won the title from Liston. Ali danced circles around sonny while connecting with combinations till the punch induced blindness caused him to quit.
Ali was a fraction of himself since the 3 Plus years suspension of 1967, but still took on the hardest puncher George who was 24 years, absorbed all foreman could give and won.
What a fight. Doug Jones.
No love lost, just another day at the office for all.❤,,,.
Ali should not had fotten toe to toe againts that boxer. It would had been, les dangerous for him.
Is that Chris Shenckel from Wide World of Sports doing the call?
I can't say for sure but it's very similar to his voice
Yes it is him.
Yes, if you watch the video further along, Chris Shenckel identified himself. Those were great days watching the Wide World of Sports. Not to be repeated. It’s like the original MNF crew. You had to be there to truly understand and appreciate how great the broadcasters were. Frank Gifford, Howard Cosell and Dandy Don Meredith. The game was secondary. You tuned in because the announcers made it fun to watch.
A lot of people thought Ali lost that fight. I gave it a draw. 🥊Jones looked like a young version of Sonny Liston.
cassius/ali danced away as he always did. great INTELLIGENT fighter
If Jones had of been 200 lbs, that right cross that he hit Clay with in the first round would have did more damage
@@frereanaktom99yes…. And people don’t give clay enough credit for being a masterful clencher
@terrencerandle1184 it wouldn't have matter because Clay would have still gotten up. Clay established all the way to Ali. You're not knocking him out, and he can take your best power punch.
@@richardmccormick859
You’re absolutely correct.😊👍🏾. Sonny Banks, Henry Cooper, and OMG Joe Frazier, and Ernie Shavers all knocked him down with shots that would have slept a Bull, and Ali just got right back up!!.(even though Shavers didn’t knock him all the way down). Ken Norton broke his jaw, allegedly in the first round, and Ali finished the 15 round match. That was a great response that you made.
Jones actually went the dystance with Ali in is prime .quite empressive.
This is not a prime ali he was prime in about sixty seven.
@@jeffriessman9693 ...False! Ali spent his prime time in exile.
Clay liked to pull down on the back of opponents neck even in those early days. Harry Gibbs was having nothing to do with that on the two occasions he fought Cooper.
Ali did not look at all sharp in this fight
amazes me how many boxers stood there to be hit. no wonder cassius/ali kept winning
Hard to not get hit by arguably the fastest heavyweight ever
Before or after
A good fight
Ali was never in his prime.
@@kakashihatake6176 Banned for a damn good reason.
No sé si johnson llegó a pelear con ali, alguien sabe?
no. Harold Johnson retiro en 1955. Anos antes que Clay/Ali empeso a palear professional
@@ConstantinoKosteris😋😋😌

Left hook left upoercut omg
The greatest of all times , ALI
No, he was defeated too many times to be the greatest. Although he did have the greatest mouth. Undisputed!
Not hardly
Muhamad Ali
so,what would have happened if clay lost? different history
I scored it for Ali(Clay at the time) 8-2
Sounds reasonable
Agree
Yes on sheer volume of punches, majority of which were accurate
Clay 8-2
jones 600 188 gives clay hell, how did sonny liston a 601 218.lb brute with 84 inch lose to clay two years later ? When fight stopped cards were scored even, may liston did tear his rotator cuff
🗽
Love..Ali:But..Somehow..He..Never..heard..of.a..'Body-Shot'.....Head-Hunter..All.the..Way.
Jones gave that boy one hell of a fight.
Ali was unrealistic
ALI
Ali looked like s--t in this one......
Cassius Clay, was and still is the greatest boxer ever.
clay won it easily.
Clay won this fight...but here, the two fighters looked like middleweights!...No real power in their punches, Clay was not as sharp as he was later in his career..and he actually did get hit kinda hard a few times, but showed us that he, even as a 200lb kid, could take a punch. Jones was in his prime here, and was clearly a very good fighter. But Clay showed flashes of his incredible speed, and made it clear that he was going to be a real force to be dealt with. His best fighting weight, IMO, at least eventually, was around 211-214 lbs. The Ali who fought a few years later, weighed in at nearly 220...and had lost some of his lightning speed, but could hit harder than he showed here, as a 202lb kid.
@@curbozerboomer1773 movement, speed, and endurance were a big part of ali's game. seems his best fights were around 210-211. he was 215 for frazier 1. his movement was terrible.
Ali had no punch
The worse commentating I never heard!!
What about Los Angeles Angels radio commentator Terry Smith? He is sooooooooooooooooooo boring!
This fight was a intelligent because the next fight was to Sonny Liston 😅and every body sow what happens.
Moves his head not blocks omg
nah. the. Cassius. Marsalis. Clay. Jr. vs. DouG. Jones. fight. Was. a. DRAW.
They are not of yhe same weight. Mohhamed ali could win only weaker fighters
You were robbed Doug.
Who were the robbers? Guess not the referees but Ali's skills over Doug's mere power
Not hardly
Same when Ali fought Norton. Ali had no answers. Ali rested a lot. He’d find no time to rest against Rocky Marciano. Non stop puncher for as long as it took.
@@jacksmurr585 lol...at you people who think marciano would have had a chance against Ali
And I’m laughing at you.
What did he say that was as bad as you claim?
You judging the legend 😂😂😂😂
