You are right, it goes to unallocated and you loose all data. Happen to me too. But, i was smart enough to try it on a dummy HD and not the intended one. Still looking for a solution here.

what is the difference between data disk and system disk? i have my old laptop's internal hard disk (the data D one) and i want to use it for external but it says the GPT thing. so is this hard disk a data disk or system disk? and also am i gonna lose my data if i convert it?
inmy case i have to recover files form the gpt disk (ps4 disk) and if i convert maybe ps4 won´t recognize it when i insert it again, can i recover my files and then get gpt protection again???
I'm not sure if the PS4 can recognize MBR disk either, but if you want to remove GPT protective partition you have to convert to MBR or delete the partition table and then convert.

Unfortunately this idiot did, I should have just waited for the HP Recovery Tool, cause I had a working drive just the OS corrupted.

data disk is a disk without your os on it, and system disk is a disk with your os on, like the disk where your c drive is on.
