Toyota should be congratulated on being bold and bringing this car to market. Any suv/ coupe/ crossover is compromised, but as a style based option, the CHR stands out. IMO, it looks great.
It's definitely difficult to squarely classify this car in a clear division, isn't it? As a C-HR owner, when people say it's a "SUV" I kind of cringe. It feels more like a sturdy coupe if it feels like anything and handles like one too.
I think it looks brilliant in a sort of sci-fi shuttle kind of way and I like it. A great quick review Tish as usual with all the bits and pieces worth mentioning highlighted. Many thanks for sharing.
All it needs are pop out Warp Nacelles, white paint and the obligatory double red Starfleet stripes to qualify as a Starfleet Shuttlecraft. The Plug-in is obviously the one to go for (if you have 7.2 kW home charging) - I like the 41 miles of exclusively EV range capability 😊👍🏾
Great review. The visual appeal is certainly up to date. The interior does lack a few convenience items. The lack of cup holders in the rear seat is disappointing for the occasional passenger and the usb charge points are placed to low to be easily accessed. The boot size is much bigger than my Suzuki so it looks very usable. The auto tailgate is a great idea as some people can struggle with it especially when opening. Can't wait to see Tish's full review of CH-R and find out the all important price.
Thanks for this- finally some new information and I love the blue. Hopefully the door handles are just a pre-production thing because the current C-HR is so intuitive with just touching the handle.
@@AutoSocialUK all I know is I love the style of mine, I know Lexus designed them, but the new ones nose looks too much like a Lexus to me, the original was sporty, wacky & a design masterpiece, I am sure the new one is better, but I like my 19plate & would probably go for a 23 plate before the makeover for my next car 😎 also I love your review, I was glued to the screen 😎
Those door handles are really really questionable if you live somewhere with snow storms. I've had to chisel my way into opening the door more than once, and the handles were the only grip I had to pull on the door. I get that they designed a quirky car, but some things are not to be messed with, like proper door handles and physical buttons. I like the car otherwise, hopefully the handles won't be a deal breaker because they look stupid to use even without ice all over them.
The PHEV powertrain in the Toyota C-HR is the exact same one used in the new Toyota Prius Prime that we are sadly denied access to. I am quite upset that we’re not getting the new Prius Prime in the UK, but it’s offered in Ireland. I’m glad that it’s also offered in Romania though. Speaking of Romania, given the popularity of the 1st gen C-HR there, I’ll be very surprised if this model doesn’t come to Romania. I think the 2nd gen C-HR will be suitable for the Romanian market, but no official launch date is given at the moment, and features / specifications applicable to the Romanian model are likely to be confirmed closer to its Romanian launch date.
Ireland also gets the Corolla Cross. South African and Irish TH-cam commenters have been telling me how good it is. I could afford a RAV4 but every time I look at one I think "do I really want a tank like that".
Greetings from Turkey. The narration was very good. As a Toyota mechanic, I can say that it was an excellent design. Thank you for the information you provided. Best regards. Greetings from Turkey / Aydın.
It might grow on me once seen in the metal but it seems a bit over designed just for the sake of it. The new Prius (which we don't get in the UK) is far more cohesive imo.
The good news is that this has literally the same drivetrain as the new Prius Prime / PHEV that’s not being released in the UK. I think the PHEV version of this C-HR will give you over 50 miles of EV range. That means all (normal) commutes would potentially be in EV mode only - especially if you have home charging.
Thanks Toyota USA! I will lose so much opportunity especially the big city like nyc. I have a 2022 CHR and I love it! I would buy this in New York minute! Come on Toyota, you need to listen to your customer
What intrigued me is that with a tear that big with a pair of jeans, it would normally be thrown away, much less used as a fashionable item. I can live with the smaller tears that are still trendy these days, but really this one is beyond me. The good thing is that I can have a tear this big with my jeans and nobody would bat an eyelid. BTW, the CH-R looks great. And Tish did a great review.
The design evolution is attractive. I, like you, found the original striking. My wife and I looked into buying one, many years ago but I couldn't get past the gutless engine options especially at this price point (and we pay less in the US). If the powertrain came close to matching the sharp design, maybe. 200 HP @ a minimum. The interior is a little lackluster as well. Likely that Toyota has purposely held back out of fear of losing potential Lexus buyers. They held back too far, in my humble opinion.
@@Mgoblagulkablong By no means do I own anything near a sports car. Call it a nice V6 with 320 HP and I use every bit of it, from time to time, on the highway (US/Miami) and appreciate having it available when I need to push into or out of a space. Even at US prices... So, despite your attempt to "take the piss", I stand by my original comment. I just didn't want to go into more detail). Have a good day.
I'm really impressed by the styling of this car, both inside and out. I test drove the previous version, as I did like the exterior styling at the time, but I thought the interior was dated and the car was underpowered. In the end, I bought a Peugeot 3008, which I have really enjoyed. I'm now about to consider an upgrade. I moved to NZ and although Peugeot have got a lot more popular here, the service centers are far and wide apart. Toyota on the other-hand is well serviced locally and....I really think this new model is stunning. That Blue is really nice. I'm not actually a fan of the two tone colour of the high end model. Just not for me. At the moment, the new model has not arrived in NZ, so I will have to wait a few months for my test drive. I also like that Toyota have kept a more traditional dash cluster, rather than gone for a long screen and minimalistic design. Cockpit style designs are better in my opinion.

No doubt it is claimed that water doesn't lie there and gets blown off in the slip stream. However I once had an Alpha Romeo 156, which didn't have a rear wiper, and it was extremely irritating!!!
Right off the bat: the presence!! The previous generation was stylish enough, but this one stands out like no other. I LOVE the new lighting at the front. Reminds me of the new Prius and the 2025 BZ concept SUV. Flush door handles arent my thing but i get why they exist on hybrids. At the back, they finally got rid of that damn wiper!! That alone will make me purchase this car. Outside looks great, inside isn't perfect but tolerable, and i cant wait to hear the exact MPGs you're getting on this new hybrid platform!!
Looks cool. I'm undecided between this ( maybe when the PHEV version arrives) or the new Honda Civic which is better for internally but (now) a lot more expensive. Insurance costs might make the choice for me!
I'm sure it's a fantastic update, but what's with modern manufacturers and those new door handles? The solution to a problem that never existed. Other than that, it's still a sharply styled alternative to the Prius or Corolla, and it's certainly on my list. Great review.
Did you figure out the handles then? After wrestling with them you later showed them all popped out. Also I’m pretty sure the chr logo in the light bar will extinguish after the initial welcome show.
I love the look of the CHR, pretty much every other Toyota makes me feel like I am driving a pool car. I have driven a lot Toyotas as pool cars over the last 16 years
It may grow on me over time but I currently much prefer the exterior of the current out going model. Especially in GR sport trim level. The rear end of this 2024 model is especially a jumbled mess in that 2 tone colour. The new Prius was a far more cohesive design.
Hmm, I loved the presenter's destroyed jeans style. but disagreed with so much. How was hybrid new in 2016? I'd had two Prius cars by 2010, and I've still got an Auris from 2013. I think pretty much every Toyota had at least a hybrid option by then. And you said it had lots of storage, but then the only example was the small centre storage area (if we exclude cup holders). There's no upper glove compartment (which was a key reason I didn't buy the 2017 Prius, btw). I think naff storage space in the front. Anyway, the review did cover some useful things.
Greetings from Romania.Congratulations for the beautiful presentation.Coming back to the car, it is a new model with a successful exterior appearance. It's a pity, however, that the rear seats and the interior space do not recommend it as a family model! The presentation location is beautiful. Where is it located? All the best for you!
The review is great and the new Chr is overall a great car for what it is. I'm really curious to find out why you pronounce the "H" like that? this is the first time in my life hearing that letter with that pronunciation. Btw the car is written as C-HR and not CH-R as in the video title ! 🙂
No rear armrest! my kids use these all the time for their drinks, also I don't see any rear vents for passengers for AC or heat. Those sports seats make it claustrophobic as well for rear passengers. This could have been a great family car as the RAV4 has got so expensive at £40k+
As a current C-HR owner I won't be upgrading to this. No rear wiper, the designers couldn't decide between round or oblong dash air vents so just fitted both, also from the front it's just plain fugly. Sorry Toyota I'll keep my current C-HR, hopefully the mid life facelift will fix some of the issues & bring a solid state EV version with over 500 miles of usable range.
Also the car is a hand made pre production "pilot" model so its unfair to critique build quality as final retail production line cars will be far better built..
The Bi-tone paint is standard on the Excel and GR which is a shame as I would like the Excel, but I hate the way the black goes through half of the rear door. The Toyota C-HR in the light bar only displays when unlocking etc as it is not allowed to be displayed during driving due to lighting regulations.
Is the other car blue or green? Anyways, it's a good one. You're right the car definitely needs a pan roof. Those huge C pillars really make it dark inside
don't know what to say, am I the only one with this opinion, but I see the new model more like a toy than previous model which looked more soberly, maybe it is the filming angle but many would stay away for anything that would make them look too eccentric
How do you think it compares to the new Hyundai Kona ? Having test driven the Kona this review is pushing me closer towards ordering one. The only plus of the Toyota is the ten year warranty (if serviced by Toyota once a year).
The Hyundai Kona is a slightly larger vehicle not only in dimensions but in practicality for rear seat passengers and boot space because of its more squared off design. Quality wise they are both solid and come with fantastic warranties, and they both come with intuitive infotainment systems. This new C-HR will likely be available to buy in a few months, so you'll have to wait longer than if you were to get a Kona.
Its extraordinary that from all those reviewers in the world, Toyota let a UK lady to first show their new C-HR outside. Go figure... Even though her legs are not reaching the ground in the rear seats, she says that space is not enough...
There quite a few videos of the CHR, I’m just got in a studio? Was your issue with a UK lady seeing it first? Considering it’s designed for Europe? I’m sorry but the rear is not spacious in any way that you look at it. It has its pro’s - space in the back is not one of them
Yes, the rear leg room looked huge and scratchy plastics? Its a Toyota if you want fancy soft touch door card materials buy a Lexus,.. Also at 9:33 current CH-R does not start at just under GBP 30k but 34,500 so the new one will be priced towards the mid-late thirties in the UK. It might seem like a nitpick but you don't want to give the false impression that the new CH-R will retail in the low thirties.
Definitely are. And I hate it. The smaller back windows of gen 1 look sportier, like a cropped top roof. If you're going for practically, nothing about the C-HR, whether gen 1 or 2 screams sensible Subaru. The C-HR is not the family car by any means.
We have been told we are getting this instead of the new Prius and the Corolla Cross. Rather annoying as I like everything I have seen about the Corolla Cross. Of course different countries get different model ranges. Checking out Autotrader UK there are 507 Corolla Estate Car (Wagons) compared to just 25 Saloons.
Toyota should be congratulated on being bold and bringing this car to market. Any suv/ coupe/ crossover is compromised, but as a style based option, the CHR stands out. IMO, it looks great.

Coupe High Rider. Its meant to be small like a sports car. If you remember Toyota Celica? Ford Puma? VW Scirocco?
those CHayyytsR are beautiful
All new cars from ordinary brands all the same now but give me toyota reliability every time.
Am i hearing that well? C- heige R ? 🤔
Beautiful car, but what a pity the new model is smaller in the back seats and doesn’t have any back air vents
It's got some similarity with the Purosangue in style w/out breaking your bank account.
Agreed.
2022 C-HR Nightshade Edition. Some mods.
It's less face-lift, more cheek retractor design😂
羨ましいです。
日本にも発売して欲しかったです。
Totally agree😄
Apart from Tesla and I’ve seen it on VW ID does any other OEM actually issue OTA updates reasonably regularly?
You dont seem too satisfied with the build quality of the interior? Which British brand can you compare it with?
I think it’s good for the class that it’s in. I would compare it to Citroen/Vauxhall perhaps. Price wise though, it’s good quality.
Also the car is a hand made pre production "pilot" model so its unfair to critique build quality as final retail production line cars will be far better built..
It's so 'sharp' it's cut a massive hole in your jeans........!
Haha! Now that would have been a smart pun! 😅
I heard the CH-R letters at the back disappear when you start driving, this is because lights have to be symmetrical
Do we have a look on how chr will look with the 8 inch screen?
Thanks
Not yet but I think we will start to see them in October
@@AutoSocialUK thank you, one more question the small screen in the steering wheel with the two red light, what is it’s use?
Thanks again
gave it a like at 0.35... gorgeous car.
Do you think those handles are the same ones off the LC 500?
It's sad we don't have it in Canada 😢
love your jeans tish
Is the other car blue or green? Anyways, it's a good one. You're right the car definitely needs a pan roof. Those huge C pillars really make it dark inside
Which version is the blue one?
CRAP, what a great facelift re-front. Hating on blue , loving on champagne silver. Really suits the off silver
don't know what to say, am I the only one with this opinion, but I see the new model more like a toy than previous model which looked more soberly, maybe it is the filming angle but many would stay away for anything that would make them look too eccentric
If you was driving an Aston Martin Vanquish I can understand you might want to make it apparent to others in the tail light. But on a Toyota C-HR?
Hahaha I see your point but I think it’s a cool touch!
all new cars are getting far too expensive, its becoming a luxury for the rich only
How do you think it compares to the new Hyundai Kona ?
Having test driven the Kona this review is pushing me closer towards ordering one. The only plus of the Toyota is the ten year warranty (if serviced by Toyota once a year).
The Hyundai Kona is a slightly larger vehicle not only in dimensions but in practicality for rear seat passengers and boot space because of its more squared off design. Quality wise they are both solid and come with fantastic warranties, and they both come with intuitive infotainment systems. This new C-HR will likely be available to buy in a few months, so you'll have to wait longer than if you were to get a Kona.
Nice review! That's sorry the car will be no selling in Japan.
Does it have electric drivers and passenger seats? Does the drivers seat have position memory?
Front driver seat is electric, no memory.
@@khokhosh that sucks..
Where’s the rear wiper gone?
Great looking SUV. Those rear windows fefinitely look larger than the ones on the outgoing model.
Definitely are. And I hate it. The smaller back windows of gen 1 look sportier, like a cropped top roof. If you're going for practically, nothing about the C-HR, whether gen 1 or 2 screams sensible Subaru. The C-HR is not the family car by any means.
@@matthewhartman7176 Subaru sell so few cars in the U.K. there are rumours that they will follow Mitsubishi by exiting the market.
Are you at Cameron House on Loch Lomond?
It would look more up to date if it had a dirty great dent on one side. Otherwise very impressive. Keep up the good work.
The most beautiful car produced in Turkey
My car is 14 years old, maybe this one. is the next one.
The new Prius is more efficient and better looking IMO. Massive shame we're not getting it in the UK.
Apparently Toyota are not continuing with the c-hr after 2023 in the states, not sure about UK
UK market is getting the new C-HR, It will slot in the UK model line up between the Yaris Cross & RAV4.
Pop out handles.Ha. Try opening those on a slope when wet.
