The ports in the barrel are part of the system, so there's more to it than meets the eye at first. But, this might be why they made the SR-3, not just to use no muzzle attachment, but to maybe use more modern suppressors which may be better. Also the pressure of the 9x39 drops much quicker than any normal subs, so you don't need an overly effective suppressor with a large number of baffles.

Anyone able to tell me why they made an extra hole for the gas transfer in the barrel instead of in the first bored chamber? I feel like there would still be enough pressure to push the bolt back.

This is a heavy bullet in a small casing, plus it has a sharp end. 45 acp is similar to this round in power but it dosent have a sharp end so 9x39 has better penetration

All this people don't realize the design of this weapon is 40 yo. I am sure that their weapon and ammunition designs of today are much better and ahead of time. Downside is that we will not be able to see it for the next 20 years.

That's why the gas tube had to be so short - in order for gun to be able to cycle at all. That weird caliber is a biatch to make the gun run properly as I understood. But I love this gun.
