    The origin of the Bakongo is to be found in ancient Egypt. Kikongo like other bantu languages are an evolution of ancient Egyptian. Mani Kongo was the title of the king of Kongo. Mani, according to Aboubacry Moussa Lam, derives from the Egyptian Mni: the name of the first historical pharaoh. And Kongo derives from Kmt: the black country, the black people, the black language (see Aboubacry Moussa Lam, Les chemins du Nil.
