Excellent work all around. Sustaining a narrative this detailed over 3 hours is a challenge on any subject. This is your best work yet that I've seen. Congratulations and happy New Year.
Now that was a journey. It's amazing to me that civilization was so complex in the era where so much rich history is glossed over in favour of Sargon and Hammurabi. It also astounds me that this era, which was as distant to the Late Roman Republic and Early Principate (my favourite period of ancient history) as they are to us, is yet remembered in such detail. So much calamity has occurred over the millennia since these people lived and these men ruled, yet somehow the remnants of their civilization can be recalled by us now.
Thankfully for the reeds in front of them and the clay beneath their feet...as well as the 19th century archaeologists who began to crack the cuneiform codes from early Persian to akkadian and sumerian...if this had been on papyrus or paper...none of this would be known today....
Brilliant and I've not even watched it yet. And what is good is because it's from Cy we know it will actually be about the Babylonian Empire and not the earlier Summerian or Akkadian civilisations who some TH-cam commentators seem unable to distinguish between, electing to refer to them all as Babylonians. Sometimes even at a time before the City/Town/Village/ A single hut there.... in Babylon existed .
Merry, freaking Christmas to all of us! Your videos are my go to for so many things, and to have your biggest one yet is the best present! Thank you for working so hard to make it this amazing!
Seems like Babylon was involved in continuous fighting for centuries without end! Enjoyed the program! Thankyou for all your effort in making this sir!👍👍👍👍

Nice to actually see praise for Babylon every once in a while. It's a breath of fresh air compared to all the bashing I seen over the years. If they where really as bad as people say they were, they wouldn't have lasted a single century. They were just a nation of people doing what nations did back in that time period.
Let me guess. The bashing came from people who hold the words of the bible in high regard? The people who wrote that bible were just mad their ancestors got conqured and their own people were weak.
@@bocoom Pretty much that. They always ramble on about something called "the sins of babylon," but they almost never elaborate on what the sin is exactly. But when they do it's that the Babylonians though of themselves as the greatest empire in the world at the time, which is basically what every empire in those times did. But you have to remember that the neo-Babylonian empire that conquered Judah lasted less than a single century, which means that they probably weren't the greatest people in that region at the time. The city itself however existed for millennia before being abandoned.

Great info. I never heard of the Kassite people before. I'm wondering if they might have been Scythians since they spoke an Indo-European language, were great horsemen and their art centered on depicting horses. Is there any evidence that they came from the Steppes and might have been Scythians? Thank you for this comprehensive video on the Babylonians. Much appreciated.
Hi, thanks for watching and great question! So I think most scholars would agree that they were not Scythians since that group would come about 7-800 years later and move south from the steppes of Eurasia, With regard to speaking an Indo-European language, that is also debated but some believe this because as you pointed out, they were great horsemen and charioteers, like other Indo-European peoples. The issue with the language though is that our knowledge of it is limited to just some vocabulary - knowledge of Kassite grammar at this time is pretty much non-existent. The only proven speakers of Indo-European languages that we know about that were contemporary to Kassite were Hittite, Luwian and a few others, and to my knowlege, the Kassite words available to us don't seem to be related to them or could have been loan words. Some also compare them to the ruling class of the Mitanni, who have very Indo-European sounding names. As for their homeland, Babylonian and Assyrian texts just mention that they came from the central Zagros mountains. My opinion is that the Kassites very well could have had some link to Indo-European peoples like the kings of the Mitanni, but there is just not enough evidence out there to definitively prove this. Hope this helps. Thanks again for watching and all the best for 2023!
Thank you very much for The History of Babylon. I watched the whole video for 3 Hours and 8 Minutes. The City at the Center of the World - The Concise History of Babylonia (2000-539 BC). From MA Naz of The United Kingdom.
I love how back then in Ur, Assyria, etc., gods were like local mascots with each city having one and embodied a physical symbol. They’d steal each other’s gods believing each one gave them more strength.
It’s still like that in India . All of the states have their own preferred deities but others are given respect too . In the past when kingdoms went to war , it was common for the victor to take the Gods of the defeated to their own capitals .
Dorud, History with Cy! Although I know this channel and your efforts are focused on history, I humbly ask that you show the world a glimpse of the Zoroastrian Parsi community and its intricacies. There's so much the world and Iranians especially don't know about and can't know about these days, and you are one of the most articulate and concise history tubers I've seen. It would be wonderful if you could educate us in your ways and culture!

Thanks! Haha Elam shows up quite a bit in this one. I also want to do a video on Elam similar to this one, though it might not be 3 hours ... perhaps 1-2. As always, thanks for watching and all the best for 2023!
Your channel truly opens a new door to ancient civilizations. Every video is so informative and engaging!
@@bocoomthe bashing of Babylon is done by Jewish Ashkenazi. Judaism stole everything from Babylonians. Why you think Jews want to wipe out the Middle East? Especially modern day Iran/iraq
@@wrath908you do realize these bad propaganda information were created by jealous European and white Ashkenazi Jewish elites? And you can easily understand why
Why was the city abandoned? Ebt ran out? I don’t understand
I never get tired of King Shulgi's odes to himself, he was the OG hype man.😎
This upload must have taken a lot of time and hard work. Fantastic end product though. 👍
Now THAT is a Christmas gift. Thanks, Cy!¨
Wow, we have NO idea how much genocide has been perpetrated through Human History, let alone Human pre-History. That is a very tough concept to come to terms with. SO much killing. Merry Christmas! 😆
Thanks my friend, hope that your Christmas and New Years went well! Thanks so much for watching and hope to put out more like this one in the next year or two. All the best for 2023!
There was no Christmas and your Santa Claus at the time of this period.
Thank you for the incredible amount of time you put into researching and recording this excellent presentation!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it and more on the way, stay tuned and thanks for watching!
OMG this is just what I wanted for Christmas
Sweet, hope you enjoy it and thanks for watching! Merry Christmas!
Much appreciated.
i’m not cy but i believe they were based on their indo-iranian names
Happy Holidays Cy! Thanks for the good gift!
My pleasure, hope your holidays went well and thanks for watching...all the best for 2023!

Impeccable timing, Cy ... 😎
Thank you for the wonderful gift and may you have an awesome Christmas!!! 🙏
What a great effort !!
thank you so much for this wonderful work Cy.
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
Thanks! Great History Doc!
Best Regards from Portugal ❤🇵🇹
Thank you very much for The History of Babylon. I watched the whole video for 3 Hours and 8 Minutes. The City at the Center of the World - The Concise History of Babylonia (2000-539 BC). From MA Naz of The United Kingdom.
This best thing I’ve seen of your tremendous work. Cy u rock!
Thank you, really appreciate the kind words and hope to put out longer ones like this in the near future, stay tuned and thanks for watching!
Excellent documentary. So much to learn about humanity, and the thirst of blood, which we are seen in today's wars! Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
Thank you for the Christmas present. I really enjoyed that.
My pleasure, thanks for watching... Merry Christmas and all the best for 2023!
Oh and its a long one too! I love you so much, thank you for all you do.
My pleasure, thanks so much for watching these, really means a lot... all the best for 2023!
This has been auto playing at 3:4AM. Had some interesting dreams right before I woke up. Lol
What is Zoroaustralian?
@@greatexpectations6577 lol. But seriously Zoroastrianism is the ethnic religion of the Iranians.
Darud baradar! Yes, that's on the agenda! I'll be going to India next month and hope to research and film there just like I did in Iran this past year and start putting together something on the history of Zoroastrianism that features both the Iranian and Parsi communities. It's a long-term project but one that I've been outlining for some time. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
@@HistorywithCy Can't wait ✌️
I think lots of people find it fascinating, but don't want to be called a geek personally I find it extremely interesting the longer the better .
This video is legendary, it’s like an “everything you need to know about Babylonia in three hours”.
Thanks so much, glad this was helpful and that you enjoyed it! Stay tuned for more!
Cy this is an excellent documentary one of your very best
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I'll try to put out similar ones in 2023. Thanks for watching and all the best for 2023!
Terimakasih. Luar biasa. Tayangan ini dihadirkan selama 3 jam. Sungguh-sungguh kerja yang hebat.
🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
This has made my Christmas and good work young man
My pleasure, thanks for watching! Hope that your Christmas went well and all the best for 2023!
LOVE ancient mesopotamia. thank you for this christmas gift
My pleasure, Merry Christmas and all the best for 2023!
Babylonia is one of my favourite kingdoms in history to explore and hear about
Cy this was brilliant! Your readings made this history come alive; I have avoided reading this history because of the swirl of king names, city state regions, tribes peoples.
Time for a second listen. Truly the good stuff.
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed this enough to watch it again! More on the way, thanks for stopping by!
Amazing content. Thank you so much for a merry Christmas
My pleasure, thanks for watching and hope you had a great Christmas as well! all the best for 2023!
Amazing Christmas gift and a happy holidays everyone
Thanks, same to you and thanks for watching!
Stoked to find your channel. I'm up here working in Kurdistan, and I'm looking forward to finding time to make it down south to check out Babylon. As well, the Marshes are on my hit list! Thanks Cy. You're amazing, and your voice; it comes off in a pleasant sing-song way that has the feeling of listening to an epic (like Gilgamish)!
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed this and thanks for watching! I'm hoping to go there one day, perhaps Nineveh and Ashur first, and then the ancient sites of the south. Hope all is well in Kurdistan and be safe!
AMAZING. I LOVE THIS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK.
Glad you found this useful! More on the way, stay tuned and thanks for watching!
This documentary is so great, I subscribed. Looking forward to sacking your library of past treasures plus future videos. Cy you make history so interesting. Love the depth of your research and sourcing / cross referencing.
Thanks so much for the feedback and for watching, really appreciate it as it helps to make these videos better. Also glad that you're enjoying the content... any questions please let me know and more on the way, stay tuned!
This was great, comprehensive, and a very generous holiday gift. Thank you!
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
I’ve just finished it and honestly words come short of how good this is, Cy this was excellent.
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed this and thanks for watching!
Brilliant video as usual. I will be watching this one again in the future, too much to take in with just one viewing.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it! It was a lot of fun to make and there will be similar ones on ancient Mesopotamia coming out in the near future. Thanks so much for watching!
Merry Christmas Cy!!!
Thanks, same to you and thanks for watching!
This is my first time learning about this era. I know 0. Thanks for putting it all in 1 place. Much appreciated, mate.
I saw 3 hours, smiled real big, got some food and played
Thanks so much and hope you enjoyed it! Lots more on the way, stay tuned and thanks for watching!
Thanks again for putting it on Spotify and going to listen for my 3rd time and will do it on Spotify and wait for more of your great work 👍
No problem, enjoy!
I *did* need something to do with my Christmas off work 😍
Haha happy to provide something to let the time go by...thanks so much for continuing to tune in to these... hope your holidays are going well and all the best for 2023!
Very well rendered, You are now a new reason to have a drink of coffee at Home. thx, young boy so articulated.
Has there been any analysis on possible pigments on the huge blank space like at 47:01? Did they maybe contain the equivalent of illuminated manuscripts?
Wow! Congrats Cy! The #1 history channel on TH-cam. #facts
Thanks man for the kind words... haha I'm far from number one, just happy to be making videos on these topics I love. Lots of great channels out there including yours which I love. Thanks so much for the continued support, always appreciate it!
You have all my appreciation today for this. Man I'd love to see huge Avatar Way of Water or Marvel Avengers level budgets and work go into productions of the ancient world, specifically Mesopotamia.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed this! I don't know what Hollywood has in store, but there will be definitely be more low budget videos on the ancient world on this channel, you can count on that! Thanks for watching!
You did this beautiful all the way through. Thank you
