  • There are some two speculations regarding the origin of the name of ‘Andong Jjim Dak'(Andong-style Braised Spicy Chicken with Vegetables) - Some people say it is named by the outer side of the villagers seeing inner side people eating chicken in such a way, while others say that people in Andong created ‘Andong Jjim Dak'(Andong-style Braised Spicy Chicken with Vegetables)’ to confront the western style fried chicken. The dish with chicken diced into pieces, vegetables with good seasonings, and glass-noodles is just a perfect meal. You might be used to dark brown colored Jjim dak. However, let’s take out the artificial caramel color dye for our health this time.
    [Andong Jjim Dak(Andong-style Braised Spicy Chicken with Vegetables) Ingredients] 2~3servings
    -Ingredients: 1 Whole chicken(600g), 2 Potato, 1 Onion, 1/2 Carrot, 2 Hot green chili, 1 Red chili, 1 Green onion, 1/4 Cabbage, 100g Dangmyeon(Sweet potato starch noodles), 3tbsp Oligosaccharide, 1/2tbsp Sesame oil, Sesame seeds
    -Sauce mixture Ingredients: 2 Dried chilies, 5tbsp Soysauce, 2tbsp Minced garlic, 1/2 tbsp Minced ginger, 1tbsp Brown sugar, 1/2tsp pepper
    [Instruction]
    1.Dip chicken in milk for 20 minutes to drain blood. Soak the glass noodles in cold water for 15 minutes. Blanch the chicken in boiling water for 30 seconds to 1 minute and rinse it in cold water. Then remove water with kitchen towel.
    (tip. Soak the chicken in the milk to get rid of poultry smell.)
    2. Grease a heated pan and grill the chicken until it turns to yellowish-brown color. Then rinse it again in cold water.
    3. Combine sauce mixture ingredients in a bowl and mix. Cut potatoes and carrots into pieces with 2cm thickness. Cut onion into 3cm long squares and slice green onion and red chili at an angle. Put the seasoning, chicken, carrot, and potato in a pot and boil for 10 minutes over high heat.
    4.When the potato is slightly cooked, add onion, cabbage and hot green chili, then simmer for 10~15 minutes.
    5.When the cabbage is cooked, add green onions, red peppers, and softened noodles to boil.
    6.When every ingredient is cooked add oligosaccharide, sesame seed oil, and sesame seeds and boil once more.
