Absolutely loving the consistent content! For some real ESC torture, try this: zero out all your PIDs, strap the quad to something really heavy, and set a switch to cycle through 0-100, 25-75, and 50-100 throttle ranges. In flight, you're never maxing out all the channels at once like this!
It's a long tale. They've done tests with an oscilloscope - no spikes on crash. It makes no theoretical sense either, since the highest voltage (also known as back EMF) is at highest RPM. During a strike the voltage just drops, that's it.
@jiatan_fpv The thing is during that prip strike the amps will skyrocket and the ESC will try as hard as it can to push the motor back to where it was, amps be damned unless the rampup power is turned down. And iirc the voltage spikes are mainly when you're at high power and let off?
Been thinking of a similar build for a while wondering this exact question, that I think you just answered... Great video !! AIO's could def be a great opportunity to make builds lighter, smaller and even more simple, without sacrificing performance and durability.
awesome video. I built a 5 inch Grinderino with a skystars AIO and i'ts been working well. I haven't flown it that much but i'll definitely put it through more tests like you just did and report back. Let's see if it holds up. When I first built it I did have issues but updating to BF 4.5 and Bluejay to the latest version fixed the issues.
3.5" and 3" builds should be with AIO-s now, time to move forward imho :) from the 20x20 mini stacks SpeedyBee F405 AIO 40A looks super interesting in this front.
Ive been thinking about vertical battery mounting... Now seeing it in a box frame it makes a lot of sense, super creative! Honestly my favourite part of the video, would love to give that a try!
@headsupfpv do lmk, I thought I was done with box frames but this looks like a great use of the concept^^ fun timing too as I'm just about getting out of a 2year racing hiatus
I remember when they started coming out over 5 years ago and the main reason the majority said no is you have to replace it all if you ruin just one part, many didnt like 4 in 1 ESCs for this very reason, gotta replace all when you just burn out one.
The goal I guess is to not bust them haha. There are benefits like it being lighter, less noise. U can fit it in a slammed frame. I like the idea of it just don’t know how it handles crashing cuz that’s what I do a lot 😂
I use AIO's in my 3 Racing Drones (Sub-250, 4.5 Inch Props, 4s 650 Mah batts).......all 3 AIO's can been amazing and no hiccups, no problems + LOTS of crashing ! lol.......unfortunately my 2024 Summer GQ time was around 58 seconds for 3 laps, so I'm not pushing as hard/fast as some of the better pilots....Great work innovating, Keep it up!
3:57 im even okay with 30x30 Aio. Should be able to pump out more amps. That’ll be sick. But then you’ll have to replace the whole thing if any single component breaks.
Aikon makes solid electronics. From my experience the aio's can handle even 2207 up to 110A on 6S. Just dont crash or turtle. The esc on mine didnt handle it. Might be different on this premium expensive one. Having fc and esc seperate makes maintenance easy and cheaper. Oh and electrial noise is worse in aios
That's really good data!!! Mine is similar. I find 2106.5 and 550 grams about the limit. Definitely don't turtle!!! And measure the resistances on the MOSFETs and swap them when they get above a 10-20% imbalance or you will lose a controller, in addition to a MOSFET. I did a 6" bi-blade freestyle basher on 2306s for a bit but you have to swap all the MOSFETs every 40- 80 packs and as you mentioned flight performance isn't quite as good because of the extra noise due to AIO component compactness.
Turtle mode blew my new speedybee aio and the mamba aio has started desyncing after a 5 crashes so im back to 20x20 stacks, the layout for the FETs on the esc just seems better for my flying.
Same here! But you’ll see in the video the fc and esc portions actually are seperate, maybe we can figure out how to just replace one or the other ? This would be crazy if so.
If after testing a good quantity and if it's discovered that they hold up, this could really change the sub 250 game. Generally we know that it's Turtle Mode that kills ESCs for us the fly freestyle. Hopefully, that can be addresed.
Thats a great AIO, but Im stuck with HAKRC F7220 AIO , Ive never blown one, its a beast in the 533 switchback HD, so the vista can fit on the top plate.
I remeber when 4 in 1 ESC started coming out the same arugment about if one fails then you ahve to replace all 4 ESCs. Now there is similar arguement with AIOs for quads.
Hi Evan, appreciate your videos. You seem to know a lot about this stuff, perhaps you can help me with this question - Its about amps. I'm using rcinpower 1002 19000kv motors GTS 3. I'm using 1s. The datasheet for these motors with 2015 bi-blade props suggest that they pull more than 5amp. I've seen other prebuilt quads like the sub250 nanofly 20 1s uses 1002 21000kv motors, with a 5amp aio. I am using a 12amp aio with the rcinpower motors because of the datasheet. I would love to use a 5amp aio - since I could just use the same as what my whoop uses... I'm too scared to try it out.
Quite honestly, you should be fine. Most esc’s amp rating refers to what they can hold constantly and not burst. Depends how you’re flying of course, but I have seen 5 amp whoop fc’s do some impressive stuff so I think you’re good!
@@headsupfpv Thanks Evan, I guess I will just have to sacrifice one and see how it goes. The happymodel 12a are a lot more pricey than the whoop boards, especially the new betafpv 5in1
@@xyic0re714 I have never broken a HM or BetaFPV 12A board... 5A boards I have to CONSTANTLY change MOSFETs on. Unless you are going ultra light 65 or 75mm it's best to use a 12A board.
@@lemonsquareFPV Thanks for the feedback. I thought this might be the case. I don't suppose you know the name of the camera connector on the happymodel X12 aio? None of my cameras have connectors, and this connector is a pain to remove from the board. I would prefer just to buy some premade connectors and resolder the camera end.
@xyic0re714 There is pads on the top of the board, don't need the connector. Video, 5V, and ground. Look up the board pinout. Also the X12 has another set of emergency hidden pads under the connector, if it breaks off. But just use the ones on the edge of the board it's easier. The connector is the 1.25mm I think, standard camera connector, but don't quote me on the number, I gotta check. I just know it's the standard camera size. But I never use them and have a dozen spare harnesses.

Failure is on prop strike (crash). This is when you get a voltage spike - the motor becomes a generator.
