Hi John. Nice to see your first video of the year. I’m looking forward to seeing more from you and Craig on Rutland Water. I don’t get to fish it often and so when I do it’s good to have tips and knowledge from you to lead to more productive fishing, or at least that’s the idea. Thanks for the videos. John
Good to see you starting your 2023 vids , surprised to see them commence in Scotland and not on the lake of Menteith. Not ventured to the lake myself yet but apparently it's doing well with buzzers.
Another great video John we used to fish the opposite bank with great success with salmon but the best fishing I had was with light gear and small flies and catching some lovely seatrout in the streams further down stream
John, nice video and a lovely looking river. With your right-handed double Spey, try to get rid of your rod tip ‘dip’, you’ll find if you lift upstream, finish with your rod tip low, then sweep in a smooth ‘climb’, to a slight pause to form the D loop that you’ll get more distance at less effort. But nice casting after 10 years away from the double-handler. Tight lines!!
Thanks Rob. It is a smashing river. I’ve fished with Ian Gordon so I like the “traditional” casting style. I’m better at timing it. When I try the low drag one I always mess it up.
Good to see you on screen again John and back up in Scotland. Looks like a fantastic river but no wonder they call salmon a fish of 1000 casts. See you at Rutland in May John, looking forward to it 👍
It's depressing seeing so many salmon fishing videos which ended up as extended casting clinics. I have watched plenty so far this season and only one or two have actually shown fish being caught.
That’s why it’s called Salmon fishing not Salmon catching. I fished 19 days last year and caught a total of 1 gigantic brown trout, 0 Salmon and 0 Sea Trout. Not my finest hour, but some great casting practice! 😂😂😂
I never understood why you guys on that side of the pond never bother to learn the speycast from both sides. Here in Norway its pretty normal and makes life a whole lot easier.
@@MrKveite1 I literally explained why I was switching from right handed double diet to left handed single Spey and why left handed worked best with the upstream wind!
Get the shrimp on 🦐 everyone else does 🎣🐟👍

I might give it a go sometime. I’ve got an open invite from a friend to show me round it.

@@johnp4hc All good John, you were casting a nice line, and if Ian approves, then who am I to say! He's a legend. ;-)

Really looking forward to May. I think we’ll camp in Hideaway Bay!

I can’t help it if the fish don’t play.

@@RobScoffin You have to take what the river gives you. I’m never bothered about catching. Just love fishing a lovely river.
