Just found this channel. Really enjoying it. Nice to see an honest angler showing good days and not so good! Watching competition guys/advertising people catching fish after fish makes me think I’m rubbish! I returned last autumn after 30+yrs out, getting used to new equipt. so it’s interesting to hear what lines etc you’re using. I bank fish large stillwaters in the north - pleased it’s not just me having blanks in the bright sun and heat of my first summer back. Keep sharing John, it’s really enjoyable. I’ve never seen anyone fishing dries so static before! Might give it a go. Thanks again. Jill, 55deg north.
Really pleased you like the channel. It’s all about being honest and showing it as it is. Each video is hot in the sequence it happened. No editing to make it look better or multiple shots of the same fish. I shot about 2-3 hours. Edit it down to 30-35 mins and then down more to around 20. Makes me focus on getting good content and trying to tell a story each time. It’s a lot of fun.
Love your videos John, i love seeing all the diffrent parts of Rutland, the North and South arms are so diffrent you almost feel your fishing two seperate lakes! Sadly me and my older brother live in Hemel Hempstead so we only get to fish it maybe two or three times a year but it has a very special place in our hearts when we do get there. Jon
You’re not too far away. Get yourself up. I used to travel up from Guildford for a day trip. I try and show you lots of different places. Big decision each time is, North or South?
Well done for putting the effort in John, it's been tough going these last few weeks. I'm thoroughly enjoying your videos, it's refreshing to see some honesty after reading some self promoting nonsense posted elsewhere recently. We've given it a rest for 2 weeks but will probably be back out there next weekend if Priestley manages to find his way back from his holiday. I hope you don't mind if I offer a couple of bits of advice; if you glide the boat in neutral then put the engine in reverse in you can stop it dead where you want it with a bit of practice. You may convert some of those follows into takes if you fish "the hang". And try weighing the odd fish, it may help with your 'guestimates' (which seemed a little optimistic!). I look forward to the next video and hopefully I'll bump into you at some point. Cheers Phil
Glad you are enjoying them. I post true representations of fishing sessions, good or bad. It’s all about an honest representation of what I do and why.
I normally do the reverse but but it’s boring on camera. On the boils I don’t do it because I need the momentum to put me in the zone. Hope we do meet up at some point 😃!

Enjoyed the video John haven’t been for about 2 weeks due to sunny hot conditions starting to cold turkey 😎☀️🐟🎣😁
I’m going to do one last shoot on the rudder then I’m having a break until September. It’s WAY too hard.
Have you tried a coral booby deep deep deep down & fish it static it’s like watching a quiver tip fishing for barbel 🐟🎣😁😁
@@lawrencemacd63 never even heard of it let alone try it! Will look it up.
Nice video mate! 🎣 I do need to visit Rutland one day!
Glad you like it. Get yourself down!
Good stuff John , another good video mate ..Stevie
Thanks Stevie. I used the Green Leggy Nemo but they just would not come up to play. I WILL get a fish on that fly😃.
@@johnp4hc Try in it in red John
@@Stevie_ONeill_Flyfishing I’ve caught most of my best fish on a Red Nemo without legs but with the translucent wing case.

The heat got to me that day. I never weigh fish always keep them in the water. It made my eyes bigger that day.
Enjoyed watching John. You did well in the hot conditions. Can you tell me what net you use for shore fishing please.
It’s a Snowbee. Comes with two interchangeable handles. One short one telescopic extendable.
Interesting John video tight line
Glad you found it interesting David.
Another little tip. If your fish goes under the boat or tried to stamp your feet a little and it should scare them out from under the boat
And every other fish for miles around. I prefer to just drop the rod into the water and pull it out.
@@johnp4hc guess that works too
You need to start hanging the flies at the end of the retrieve.
I usually do but not on the boils. No point. If they take, they take fast.
What are ‘the boils’?
Aerator pipes that blow air into the reservoir to oxygenate the water and stop it stratifying into stagnant layers.
@@johnp4hc super, thanks 👍
