Hey Adam. For future reference; just jack the bike up (no paddock stand). When you remove the old shocks, the swing arm will relax down, but the bike frame will stay put. Easy one-person job.
I went for YSS rear shocks,as I couldn't justify the cost of Ohlins,or like the yellow......The YSS look and work beautifully, are much lighter than stock, and cost about half of the Ohlins. Progressive springs and adjustable preload caps up front, have made a big difference too,and together are a huge improvement over stock components, and good enough for fast road riding I have found. Love my Speed Twin, and great videos....👍
Probably been said already below, but change them one at a time whilst bike is on side stand, easy job for one person that way. It will sag when one spring is off, but with it on the side stand, to fit the replacement spring simply pull the bike up towards you a little whilst its leaning on the side stand.
Adam, love your bike, I just got a 2020 in the same color. I too added the ohlins shocks, and have found from doing this is the past, if you place a scissor jack on the rear tire, and turn it up to where it just putting pressure on the underside of the fender, it allows you to move the rear of the bike up and down, to help you get the shocks on very easily. I did this when putting mine in, and was done with the job in 20 mins, this was taking my time and wiping things off as well. Thanks for the great videos
Hi Adam, loving your channel and you seem to swear when doing jobs, just like me when I drop stuff etc. Nice shocks and I'm hoping to get a speed twin when funds allow. A useful tip when changing shocks is to do one at a time, so the other is supporting most of the bikes weight while you work. I learnt that one the hard way too!
I also fitted a pair of Ohlins Thruxton R shocks to my Speed Twin. As Adam says they are stiffer but the improved damping is very noticeable. I really like them. I fitted some black springs, I will be fitting an Andreani cartridge kit in the new year. Great vids Adam
I went with KTech Razor rear shocks and Tec Bike Parts front springs and adjustable preload caps. The rear shocks make a huge difference if you ride this bike a brisk or faster pace. The fronts were a less noticeable change. Will go with a front cartridge refit once the piggy bank fills back up.
I am thinking about getting these myself. The back end really is a bit skittish at about 80+. It's noticeable how it suddenly feels planted down again when speed drops below a certain point 80-85mph. Big investment though.
As said below . You didn’t need to struggle like that , I just jacked mine under the sump guard and let the swing arm drop to the required height. About 30 minutes the pair .
Did you set the spring pre load and measure sag? Also, how did you have the bike supported - center stand? Center jack? Seems you don't want the bike on a paddock stand for this job? Nevertheless - job done and it looks great.
Boa tarde amigo. Sou de Portugal. Vejo todos os seus videos. Amigo tenho TRIUMPH SPEED TWIN 2022. Qual o Sag settings da frente e tras para a speed twin? Com piloto e sem piloto. Muito obrigado
I traded my Thruxton R due to the terrible ergos (even with a handlebar kit), and rock hard suspension. I knew when Adam put the stock Thrux price-point Ohlins shocks on that they would be stiff as a board. I'll look at some other aftermarket suspension bits if I ever want to upgrade my Speed Twin.
Have ohlins on the back of my street glide and love them. You really have to try different combination of preload and settings but once they are dialed In they are awesome!
Sounds like you had fun putting these on? I see that the bottom mount for the stock suspension has a larger inner diameter than the Ohlins. Did the Speed Twin stock springs have a bushing or were the lower mounting bolts quite a bit larger than the Ohlins lower mounting bolts?
Do you know how the silver allen bolt on the clutch box next to the Triumph logo is named? I am talking about the one that is visible at 3:32 at the bottom of the bike. I've had mine stolen on my Street Scrambler and who knows for how long I've been riding without it! Do you have any idea about its purpose? Is it to just hold the frame together?
Hi Adam, love the way you do all the mods yourself . Can we have a video of all the tools you have in your garage for the speed twin .Will be useful for all who wish to follow in your footsteps 😬. Keep up the good work !!!

Very nice, you can see the quality...............it was actually the weight of the rack made it harder, time to take the rack off ‘till you need it ha ha!!
Hey Adam, just curious if you needed to put washers between the shock and the frame, and then the shock and the luggage rack? Been trying to find this info online.
I've yet to try a bike with Ohlins that was reasonably comfortable on public roads (at least not on our winter-beaten canadian roads)...they are high quality, they look good, but they are really better on a racetrack than on the road. I've ridden many, spent a ton of cash on having them adjusted, revalved, resprung, always ended up hating them (I even sold my 1200 Scrambler because of the Ohlins...after spending nearly 1000$ to have them improved). It will improve handling, give it a sporty ride, but comfort...no. Ohlins is now on my black list.
I totally agree, I am also not a big fan of Ohlins for the road, Although I did read the Ohlins set-up on the Ducati 950 Supersport S is supposed to be very good, not sure what spring rates they use.
HI Adam, do you think you will install a fork cartridge kit as Matris F15K to equilibrate rear and front system ? If you will, i’d like to see it on a new video. Regards from France...
I found my thruxton r shocks back breakingly hard I'd love some more just comfort suspension unfortunately I love the look but not interested in having hard the deal was too good to pass up though so I'll probably down grade to comfort over performance handling
Does this mod really feels better? Also, the looks, don't you think it breaks a bit the styling? ( the ohlins do really look modern ). PS: I have a Street Triple but i test rode the Speed Twin and i'm wondering if switching it for some time.
I’m not sure, maybe a dealership could tell you a part number. All I know for sure is that they were direct take offs from a Thruxton R. I’ll try to find some sore of numbers on them when I get a minute to look.
It has a lot of adjustments so it can be stiffer or softer whatever you choose. I set it up to be a bit stiffer, it’s not jarring by any means just a bit more compliant in the twisties
Good job man, looks great. It's funny, the reason I went with the thruxton R instead of the speed twin was for the suspension. I just ended up swapping out the spoke wheels for the speed twins cast wheels. So I guess you could say I went the opposite way you did to land in almost the same place 😛
@@johnpoon8 hey, no problem man. It's a straightforward swap. There's no modification needed at all. All the hardware is the same. Just find some spoked wheels from a thruxton, install the guide tube and bearings then use the wheels spacers from your speed twin. I would advise that you use new disc bolts when you swap over the rotors as the heat cycling can weaken them over time. I got a nice set of titanium bolts from A&J Cycles. Let me know if you have any other questions.
It’s not bad, the design is made to look strong and modern industrial. But up close it looks over designed and cheap. simple steel tube design is just fine. The price is right though and I feel safe using it.
Hey Adam , did you have to install diff bushings in order to get these babies to fit? For some reason I thought they might need diff bushings for mounting, good shit.
Front forks eventually, haven’t decided which kit yet though. As far as Tec suspension I’ve heard a rumor that they were manufactured in China and some people have had less than favorable reviews so I didn’t go that direction. Ohlins have a long good track record and I got a great price. I’m sure any aftermarket shock is better than the stock ST ones though! 😀
Title this how not to replace rear shocks! Don't ever do this on a paddock stand as the weight of the bike is loading the shocks. Get a lift or jack to lift the bike in the middle as that will unload the shocks. Change them one at a time...easy! You do not need two people...you just need to know what you're doing. Preload is not a substitute for shock length...they are two different things.
They squeal ever so slightly once and awhile. Not nearly as bad as some have been experiencing. I’m not going to touch it unless it gets bad or until I need new pads.
Love the bike me personally think the springs would look better black tec bike parts uk do a set of piggyback shocks black and silver only £150.00 but like all your video's 👍
Hey Adam. For future reference; just jack the bike up (no paddock stand). When you remove the old shocks, the swing arm will relax down, but the bike frame will stay put. Easy one-person job.
axle stands under the footrest mounting brackets work well too, or even better - an ABBA stand (lifts the bike from the swingarm pivot)
It's also a lot easier if you do one shock at a time. The swing arm doesn't relax much when one shock is still in place.
