Thank you for sharing this video. I live in the UK and thinking about getting some Unison soft pastels, thanks for the review. You’ve also showed me that I don’t have to stick to just the one brand but different pastels have different attributes. I’ll explore this a bit more. Thank you 👍🏻
It would have been interesting to integrate in this comparison of major pastel brand, besides Sennelier and Schmincke, the pastels Roché and Zellen Art
I paint with pastels a long time ago, my favorite brand are Rembrandt, Sennelier, Schmincke and pastel-pencils Derwent. Recently I have include the sponges from Pan Pastel to blend colors, some colors for portraits are Skin tones for more softness or bright with White, for some details use pastel pencils.
I am starting to embrace the pastel world now (although i paint for a long time) so thank you so much for the review. It was very helpfull. Thank you also for the voucher.
I only have a set of sennelier and rembrandt and a couple of unison sticks I'm surprised you don't have sennelier it's a very popular brand have you tried pan pastel?
The caption says "major brands," yet quite a few important brands are left out... could you do another video, including the rest of the brands...Sennelier, schmincke, Terry ludwig, and henri roche (nice to have but not necessary as it is beyond most artists budget)
Hi! Watched your video a couple of weeks ago and took your advice and ordered a bunch of great American sets but after painting with them for a couple of days now, I’m finding them waxy ish ? They are buttery and soft which I love but fill the tooth of the paper and feel waxy and then harder to layer on top. I always appreciate a good review and yours was but maybe it’s just for pet portraits and not landscapes?
the light pastels will never cover as good as the dark ones seems strange with the range of tones available in thes pro sets you could not find a closer match for a better comparison
thanks so much for the info. I had no idea there was an animal set available in any pastel brand. I will be purchasing an animal set from unison. again thanks so much. just the jumping off point I needed.
I'm looking for a pastel to use for fine whiskers, any ideas please? I have also tried pencils, Windsor newton, sennelier, daler rowney sticks but cannot get fine controlled strokes (even with small fragments) - any suggestions please?
I guess the pigments are often some kind of stone or metallic oxide... the much more critical point will be the fixative... this often darkens the whole picture a bit.. and hair spray too.. and in the long term they may turn more to dark or yellow or braun... may one or an other fixative is better and may hair spray cares less about lightfastness at all
what about Sennelier and Shmincke?

I like Stabilo colored pencils for whiskers. What paper are you using?
Faber castell pastel pencil?
Can they used with water?
Or ethanol?
Thanks so much for this comparative review. This helps me tremendously. Do you happen to know how long the hello10 voucher will last?
I think it's good for your first purchase only. Not sure when it expires, or if it expires.
Any idea on how lightfast each brand is?

Dang! Yer good
Great video and info but why do you wear gloves? Is it necessary?
Pastel dust under my fingernails drive me nuts. Not necessary.

It's not important how the frogs pronounce. What is important is how English is written and pronounced.
