I love how Ice King is just jamming along until "But I remember that I saw you frown, I swear it wasn't me, it was the crown". That look of concern and confusion at that line, like Simon is just under the surface, having a moment of near lucidity, then right back to jamming as Simon slips back to the depths
So true, it's subtle but it's there. Ice King knows there is something tragic (he was squinting) about the song, but he can't put his finger on it. As the show progressed Ice King became his own character (he helps Finn and Jake with their adventures, stops kidnapping princesses, and improves his mannerisms), he's not just a cursed man that people look at out of pity but a respected individual who forged his own identity even though he doesn't remember who he used to be (to be more specific, Ice King is more than just Simon with dementia, he's his own person). Like he told Betty ''this Simon guy sounds nice, but I'm ice king.
@@SebastienGendron-uk4poi think the way everyone treats him after this episode lends to that a whole ton, a big part of his early motivation is loneliness!
@@PlagueRatt True, in season 1 he was seeking affection but was rejected and beaten as a creep but ever since Finn and Jake witnessed who he used to be (from the tape) and his relationship with Marceline, they treated him differently and didn't beat him up when he screwed up. Ice King definitely improved as a person.
I think it’s ice king wondering how he could ever hate the crown, thinking it’s the one thing that makes him him and just being confused that he’d write that
Simon say in one episode he remeber only some stuff like dream. And we know crown dont have infinity will power and you can break will of crown, if somone say i talk abaut W king yes but no he probady break himself and corown for moment to create and cast spell but ice king alos many time break crown insane part and be very serius or even break crown force to make you ice king few times. The doll at the end that Simon gave Marcy is the same Doll that her ex boyfriend sold in a previous episode.

A little detail I want to point out about this episode: When Marceline shows to the Ice King the clipping of him before the war, you can see that in the picture he has the enchiridion.

im guessing the ice king eats a lot and then just starves so he ends up skinny again, the crown probably keeps him alive without needing to eat but he must still feel hunger

No, it is the depression, madness and sadness, he become really fat or skinny
I think one of the writers stated something along those lines. When he gets depressed, he binges and when he’s happy he diets.

if i remember correctly i believe the team said ice king goes through binging and purging episodes, so they always switch between drawing him fat and drawing him super skinny. this is one of my favourite episodes, it always gets to me
I'm pretty sure they said it depends on his emotional state. When he's feeling better about himself he's fat and when he's feeling really low, he gets really skinny

my grandpa died after 3 years of dementia in september of 2012, when i was 11, when that episode came out, i was still sad about it, but it was the first time i could cry about it, since then, i can't see this song without crying, not because i find it sad, but because like simon, he was the only father figure i had, i can understand marceline as a character, when he had dementia he said or did bad stuff, back when he was alive i didn´t understand, i thought i was doing something bad or that he hated me, i felt so bad after hearing the lyrics "I swear it wasn´t me, it was the crown" because i finally understood that he was not doing it because he hated me or because i was bad, everything bad he did on those 3 years, was because of dementia, before that, he was such a good person, even when he was crazy i came out as gay when he was about to die, and supricingly, he hugged me, i don't know but as marceline, i just thinked that he was actually him and not the dementia, simon and marceline arc is a masterpiece.

Dementia is one of my absolute worst fears. Ice King's character is such a good representation not just for the seniors that suffers from it, but also how it affects those who cares for them and loves them.
That was the real him fighting through, dementia is a horrible disease. I'm sure nothing bad he said to you was him, but it was the disease.
Dementia is terrifying. A lot of stuff is scary because it can kill you, but dementia kills you while you're still alive.
I have the same reaction for the same reason. This episode came out a little after the first time that I visited my grandmother with alzheimer's and realized that she had no idea who I was anymore. This episode really cut deep with me at the time, because I was coming to terms with the fact that the grandmother I knew growing up was all but gone already, due to so much of herself unravelling from that disease.
I haven't even seen any adventure time since 2015, but this video randomly came up in my feed today. It took me right back to that time again, and now I'm a 27 year old man, crying in bed while watching someone react to a kids show.
Some things just stick with you emotionally, huh.

Insane how adventure time has one of if not the best portrayal of dementia/alzheimer's in animation history, no wonder Marcy is extremely patient with Ice King, she knows he's not in control
Fun fact this is the last episode Rebecca Sugar worked on before making Steven Universe. I know she does a voice in season 7 (dont yall say it, its a spoiler) and she wrote the song in the finale, but i believe this is the last episode she wrote for as a whole
I love how the episode stars with one of the funniest adventure moments and ends with one of the most heartbreaking ones.
I always loved when he says the final “when I don’t remember you” it’s actually Simon saying it because it was in tone and when ice kings sings it’s not
Idk if you noticed the plushie Simon gave to her at the end, but I guess you can start to see why Hambo meant so much to her all those episodes ago in "Memory of a Memory".
This episode after all these years somehow just still hits and sticks with me ever since it got released.
5:10 The ice king is a bit depressed and this changes his body, sometimes he gains weight and sometimes he loses weight.
It probably affects his habit of eating too

Yes, I've been itching for these episodes. Adventure Time is goof af, but it is also deep and pretty emotional. Perfect show to grow up with.

Hi, I'm a big fan of yours and have been following you for a few months. I would like to recommend an old cartoon called Total Drama!
It was launched in 2007/2008 and had several seasons, receiving a reboot earlier this year. However, the new version cannot be reacted to due to copyright. It's a very good cartoon that was part of my childhood, so I recommend you watch it from the first season: Total Drama Island.

What if at some point after marcy and PB breakup, Marceline goes to the ice king for comfort and goes into a long heartache song writing and playing streak before getting tired of the ice king shenanigans. Then, this plays into Simon's "princess" thing, and makes Ice King preferential "seeking" of Princess Bubblegum specifically, thanks to a mix of Simon's own buried emotions and Marceline's songs?
