Gravity Falls did this once before, but: it would be great if Simon, in season 2 of Fiona and Cake, was give a chance to live the life he wanted. Living in a reality where, the crown didn’t exist, the bombs never fell, the comets never came to Earth, turning the world into an unrecognizable wasteland as Simon sees it, and he got to live out his life with Betty and a family they’d made together. Only for Simon to realize, with the help of Finn, Fiona, and Cake, that it’s not real. He denies it’s all an illusion, because, while he’d moved on, he secretly wants to live and die in this illusion, where everything is normal and his live lacks the tragedies that made him. Simon pushes them all away. Decades seem to go by, Simon’s successful, loved, respected. He’s gotten everything he’s ever wanted. But then, a young girl with black hair crosses his path. Followed by a young boy and his dog he meets at the bus stop. Finally, he sees a blue butterfly on his windowsill. He’s seemingly forgotten his past at this point. The history of this made up world is all Simon knows. He swats the butterfly with annoyance. Suddenly, he begins to cry… thinking he’d killed the butterfly. Suddenly, Simon gets a headache, and snow begins to fall. Dark shadows seem to follow him everywhere. He runs and runs trying to escape them. To no avail. Eventually, he finds himself at home with Betty and his kids. Simon looks up. “I don’t want to leave this place Betty”. Betty comforts him, saying, “love can change a person. Just like a butterfly transforms form a cocoon”. With a smile and a tear, Simon allows himself to be taken by the shadows. He wakes up, in a hospital bed, his friends around him. Fiona and Cake wake up, while Finn, glances away from Simon having been watching the whole time. They celebrate Simon waking up. He turns his head to find a blue butterfly sitting on a windowsill. Another year rolls down Simon’s cheek. Smiling, choked up with bittersweet joy, he musters a, “thank you. Thank you, for saving me again”.
He was raimundo from xiolin showdown. He also played hanibal roy bean. It’s not even the only evil bean he plays. Mr jelly bean and thousand ants. From Rick and Morty. Such talent 😊.
Its so tragic that his way of calling his fiancee a Princess became his hyperfixation on kidnapping actual princesses. He doesn't even remember Betty, but still trying to reach the one person that he loved.
14:47 The most gut-wrenching thing about this scene is that at this point, Simon knows he can't save himself. The best thing he can do is hope people have pity on him.
Probably one of the saddest, most bittersweet, stories in animation. Simon was the father Marcaline needed. Avadeer was just her daddy, and a pretty neglectful one at that. He wasn’t there for her birth or part of her childhood, as far as we know. Simon was. Even under the curse of the crown, when he’d lost himself. “Forgive me for all that I do, when I don’t remember you”.

I love getting to see people experience how crazy, hilarious, and heartbreaking this show can be.
The Ice King we see being the Madness forced onto Simon Petrikov is one of the biggest reveals in the show so far, and I can’t wait for the continuation of this perfect world building as it unfolds and Nux’s journey watching my favorite Cartoon ever with everyone! Thank Glob!!! CHAOS!!!!!!!
15:56 Points for trying, but the line is actually "Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown". But seriously yeah, the lore dump in this episode is bug-nuts crazy and kinda makes you rethink everything that's happened in the show so far.
I love that from moment one you were like, "Hell yeah Ice King I love this guy! He's the best!" because he actually is. Simon was just a normal man, and had the misfortune of stumbling on the wrong thing. The likely well renowned Simon Petrikov is essential gone, and all that remains is the Ice King. At his core, he's not a bad man, he's just...broken. There's one more episode in the future I can't wait for you to watch, as it's gonna feature him and show another amazing side to Simon, just cementing him as the fucking best. It'll be great, chock full of lore for Lord Nuxalore.
We know Ice King is over 1000 years old because in Marceline's memory, when she was a little kid, the war already destroyed the world, and she's 1000 years old. So since IK got possessed by the crown way before the war, he is WELL over 1000
It’s a bit early but Merry Christmas & here is a present 🎁 some surprising information about our favorite character the Ice King … or should I say Simon Petrikov - What happens to Ice King is similar to Gollum from the Lord of the Rings franchise while also having some aspects from Mr.Freeze from Batman the animated series - When Finn says "What does it mean?" is maybe a reference to Jack Skellington from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas - Notice when Ice King enters the tree there is a poster which seem to be a man wearing a badge similar the ones in the Star Trek franchise
What ice king has is not real dementia or Alzheimer's it's a fantasy version of it that's kinda similar (later seasons go deeper into the lore of this) what can be said rn is that he's partially cursed with immortality, the ice powers gave him an advantage during the mushroom war and he survived it
Craziest part isn't thinking that him saying he made the crown in a different episode is a bad retcon, the crazy part is realizing it isn't when you know the truth.
@JinxeBlaq just gave away the whole backstory of crown and thinks it's not a spoiler because he didn't mention a name lol. The average nux viewer is dense, man
I actually just noticed this, but when Simon walked up to the picture you see that Simon in the picture has black eyes while Simon as we see him in the present has white eyes.
This is only the beginning. All the simon episodes from here have made me cry. ... i forgot how often the punch bowl shows up. Punch bowl lore goes hard
This is why this is my second favorite if not not all time favorite adventure time episode. It not only adds context for his previous actions but also puts him an entirely new light after this episode to someone i thought was just gonna be a funny recurring antagonist. The writers put so much thought into Simon than i thought at the time, to one of my favorite characters in fiction, not to mention what they do with his character in Fiona and Cake
so glad to be here to see this. I could've been born a kinkajou in the year 1812. but here I am blessed with humanism, So I can watch Nux discover the world of Adventure time
“To celebrate the day Finn and Jake had a fleeting moment of empathy for the biggest weirdo in Ooo. It was a miracle, good night.” Damn this episode hit even harder than I remembered 😢
Probably one of the most tragic characters in animation. Maybe even fiction. But, also one of the most heartfelt, selfless dads. So bittersweet. Thankfully, Simon did have friends to watch over him after the curse finally took him.
When I was watching this and the end of season four I worked in a nursing home. I ugly cried about the whole thing. I thought it was a really thoughtful depiction of dementia. Most of the time you will never get that person back. And you can still love them as they are now but I can understand that can be very difficult for their loved ones. I’m glad they stuck around for Ice King.
This was deep... And yet, it is going to get a much deeper still. Keep watching Nux. There's so much lore yet below the surface. It's just such a random show on the surface. With such deepness below that surface. I know when the reactions to this show started, that this was gonna be so good. This show seems made for Nux, more than any.
*[31]* Glad you like this episode. Knew you would because the twist was so well done. It explains his forgetfulness, his easily duped nature, obsessive need to kidnap princesses, explosive spontaneity; everything. And yes, Simon was an archaeologist 1000 years ago. The war happened while The Crown was driving him insane and keeping him alive. Think of it like repeated exposure to radiation, except you still live and live longer. It eats at your mind, making you see delusions and driving you mad while granting extreme power. And as the Fisherman lead-in hinted, He's not the only one to wear that crown. Also, I think Phil is an easter egg to someone on staff. He kinda popped up from tine to time in the background.
Knowing how used are both finn and jake to collect treasures to drop them around their treehouse it's almost like collecting human story to finn to discover but since all the human world has known at that point were Analog technology Finn just gives it to Bmo to shove up his usb port
They never intended to have this revelation. This episode was meant to just be a fun Christmas episode with nothing much going on. But then one of the writers wrote that speech and everyone was like “we have to put that in there.” They had to rework some stuff but they did it. And it proved to be a huge turning point for the series.
This is SOOOOOOO only the tip of the iceberg. heh iceberg. The Marcy and Simon is super sad but their song together is one of the biggest tearjerkers I have ever heard. The rabbit hole is almost bottomless.
The lore drop of when Adventure Time begins to get serious. Also, during the first Fionna & Cake episode, Fionna warns Cake about catching Ice Queen's crazy from wearing the crown, & then it turns out that seemingly random warning from a relatively throwaway episode was massive foreshadowing.
The existence of Simon Petrikov was what got me to actually look into this show beyond a passing, silly interest. It's genuinely such an amazing reveal, one that recontextualizes EVERYTHING that's come before or will come after. (Fun side note: I actually met Tom Kenny while cosplaying as Simon, and he was honestly such a class act. Asked me my name, seemed genuinely psyched that I was cosplaying the character and asked me questions about the costume. Best part was he put on the crown my friend had made for me and pretended to go crazy while we posed for a picture. One of my favorite convention stories.) This episode is also so amazing. The jokes really hit, that ending monologue is great, hitting that sweet spot between funny and sweet, and the sequence of Simon's tape is so creepy and has amazing ambience, the way the music makes it feel a little bit like a nightmare. This is not the peak of Adventure Time, but this is where the climb to it really begins.
That saddest part is that he isn’t even aware of how tragic his life is
Yeah, i cant wait for next lore dump.

Simon story is the sadest moment in adventure time. He not even remember his past😢
His strory started before the Apocalypse
20:57
the snail!!
I am glad he made the princess connection, not everyone does.
Really? That's so obvious...
This is the episode where you really gotta grab your friends cuz it gets real. Glad to see Nux loving the show
15:56 Points for trying, but the line is actually "Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown". But seriously yeah, the lore dump in this episode is bug-nuts crazy and kinda makes you rethink everything that's happened in the show so far.
7:51 that moment you realize upside down Ice King is a middle finger.
Simon is such a well-written character, I can't wait for Nux to learn more about him.
So since IK got possessed by the crown way before the war, he is WELL over 1000
Normally I watch adventure time reaction at work. AS SOON AS I SAW THE FRICKIN THUMBNAIL I KNEW WHAT EPISODE THIS WAY and had to watch it IMMEDIATELY.
It’s a bit early but Merry Christmas & here is a present 🎁 some surprising information about our favorite character the Ice King … or should I say Simon Petrikov
- What happens to Ice King is similar to Gollum from the Lord of the Rings franchise while also having some aspects from Mr.Freeze from Batman the animated series
- When Finn says "What does it mean?" is maybe a reference to Jack Skellington from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas
- Notice when Ice King enters the tree there is a poster which seem to be a man wearing a badge similar the ones in the Star Trek franchise
12:19 literal chills. This scene gave me some gravity falls vibes as well, just the mystery and vibes. What a reveal, right!?
What ice king has is not real dementia or Alzheimer's it's a fantasy version of it that's kinda similar (later seasons go deeper into the lore of this) what can be said rn is that he's partially cursed with immortality, the ice powers gave him an advantage during the mushroom war and he survived it
posting spoilers, even semi-spoilers makes you a dick.
My favorite twist of all of Adventure Time, Ice King and his tragic background.
I’m so glad that I get to watch Adventure Time videos two days in a row!
I love how nux calls wlld berry princess strawberry princess 😂 and this episode where ice king became a likeable guy because seeing his past is so sad
Can't wait to see "I Remember You"
10:13 how does, indeed.
Let's not hype up the next LORE episode, let it hit Nux like a truck.
The next one isn’t until the who done it dr party right?
@@greyygoblinn5639 🚭 you know if you know.
@@tacogodboomdogg damn that one is before “that one is going in the vault”???? I had it flipped ig
@@tacogodboomdogg wait he already watched the “in the vault” episode, damn 🚭 isn’t until the end of 4. DAMN
Can't wait for the next lore episode. From what I remember, they're all absolutely great episodes.
Craziest part isn't thinking that him saying he made the crown in a different episode is a bad retcon, the crazy part is realizing it isn't when you know the truth.
@@JinxeBlaqi mean, by this point you're just spoiling it just without saying the names.
Try to tone it down for the sake of nux's blind reactions.
@@JinxeBlaq With stolen magic at that
@JinxeBlaq just gave away the whole backstory of crown and thinks it's not a spoiler because he didn't mention a name lol. The average nux viewer is dense, man
@@3bodYking99He doesn’t read TH-cam comments for the sake of that already. But I’ll just delete my comment to be safe, cheers.
@@GreatRaijin It's not a spoiler to say that a previously-stated fact is actually true.
A lot of the lore that has been hinted in the first three seasons starts expanding next season. Especially episode 25.
And this is to celebrate a moment of empathy, so it's fitting that they're there.
This episode shows that ice king used to were glasses.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTT???
Fun fact Phil is actually in a couple of episodes some of the times where you were wondering where are some other humans he is in the background
Oh, man. The sound when he put the apple on his nose, along with the image, was just "No!" LMAO
Now that he’s seen the Simon lore episode, I can’t wait for the next Marceline lore episode : )
I could've been born a kinkajou in the year 1812. but here I am blessed with humanism, So I can watch Nux discover the world of Adventure time
6:26
good soldiers follow orders
I can't WAIT for that episode and THAT song
He predicted Marceline has a connection to Ice King
The LOREEEEEE episode we were all waiting for. Let’s GOOO egg bois
Can't wait till he sees episode 2 of season 5 "Finn the human" that one sticks with me.
“To celebrate the day Finn and Jake had a fleeting moment of empathy for the biggest weirdo in Ooo. It was a miracle, good night.”
Damn this episode hit even harder than I remembered 😢
"My name is name is Simon Petrikov"
Has the same same feel to
"My name is Walter Whitwell White"
Remember in episode 3 how chat was saying Ice King is the tragic character? This is why.
Episode 3 Nux: Adventure Time doesn't have tragic characters.
*[31]*
Glad you like this episode.
Thanks for having this Adventure with us in the first place Nux! Hoping to keep on having a fun adventuring time with you.
This is SOOOOOOO only the tip of the iceberg. heh iceberg. The Marcy and Simon is super sad but their song together is one of the biggest tearjerkers I have ever heard. The rabbit hole is almost bottomless.
I commented on one of your reactions a while back that you wherent ready for that episode, and that episode has finally come! The tragedy of Ice King
Homie is gonna be crying and simping for Simon the more he appears.
"Me and Simon find out about the crown" ahh
The existence of Simon Petrikov was what got me to actually look into this show beyond a passing, silly interest. It's genuinely such an amazing reveal, one that recontextualizes EVERYTHING that's come before or will come after. (Fun side note: I actually met Tom Kenny while cosplaying as Simon, and he was honestly such a class act. Asked me my name, seemed genuinely psyched that I was cosplaying the character and asked me questions about the costume. Best part was he put on the crown my friend had made for me and pretended to go crazy while we posed for a picture. One of my favorite convention stories.)
This episode is also so amazing.
8:30 Nux, did you even realize that Ice King calls ALL of his penguins "Gunther"?
