She knocked herself concussed on a plexi partition down at the harbour. i tried to shoo her into the bushes and she came straight to me. hopefully this morning she will be able to fly away. i put my hand into the carrier this morning to change the water and she hopped right on, was expecting a brutal peck, instead, a very gentle grip and her head cocked looking at me. I'd imagine it's more likely instinctual muscle memory. Feral kittens have a tendency to bite their food and then shake their heads quickly back and forth as if to snap the neck of a small animal, even if never trained to do so. It's likely that some kingfishers started doing this and it ended up helping them not choke or cause damage from a conscious fish inside them, and so they lasted more often than others.

For those wondering why the kingfisher is beating the fish, it to render it unconscious so when the kingfisher swallows, it'll have no issues with the fish not wiggling it way down to the stomach.

Ok, Kingfisher's now have an italian mobster personality and voice in my headcanon... Thanks for that.
Cousin Vinnie over here enjoying some fresh pesce di Lago. Defiantly staring into the dock's 'security' camera after a succesfull and literal whacking.
