The mom knew what she was doing. She took them there because it was time for them to learn to climb stairs. She waited at the top, neither holding their hands (wings?) nor abandoning them. And I love how she knew where every last one of them were, and waited for the last of her babies to get up before moving on.
The people filming were right not to help. It's the same thing as seeing a new butterfly struggling to get out of a cocoon. The struggle is what helps make their wings strong for flight. If you help them, the wings stay weak and the butterfly can't fly.
Overcoming adversity makes us stronger. And this tiny adversity helped these babies grow.

@@ashfloranna No she wouldn't. It would actually be extremely difficult (if not impossible) for a duck to abandon a baby, because ducklings will follow their mothers everywhere, no matter what. It's not like with a songbird where the parents could just stop coming back to the nest. It's still mostly a myth with songbirds too though, most birds barely have any sense of smell.
I volunteered at an animal rescue that mainly took birds, and there was a consistent problem with people just leaving baby birds on the ground to die because they incorrectly thought that if they put them back in the nest, the parents would abandon them.
